To get an idea of how good Hikaru is, watch a GM stream a 3 minute game against another GM. Generally silent, and it is close. Watch Hikaru, and he's chatting about anything, music playing, responding to chat and only occasionally says 'Wait, I gotta focus here'. Wins 10 of 11 on Titled Tuesday.

I am honestly just happy that a player like Hikaru even exists. Sharp, attacking play, extremely fast calculation, and insane defense. He is the most entertaining chess player to me, stylistically

And after 2 years of streaming, Hikaru is the best person that can explain chess among others top 20 superGM. He's not awkward to talk to, not like other superGM.

The footage of him as a kid is so funny. The way he’s always making faces at the camera lets you know he has that troll side to him somewhere underneath it all.

It's crazy that he's like top 10 in all time formats and then streams full time. His performance in the candidates and then recapping every game afterwards on YT is outrageous.

Hikaru is a great streamer and player, I used to be addicted to his streams during lockdown and it was always interesting stuff to watch and listen to. He's very interactive with the chat even compared to top non chess streamers, it feels like it's an actual conversation with him and viewers.
Even Magnus once called him “Decent”.

Nakamura grew on me after watching last year's Grand Prix. I was on the hill that he was already washed after getting constantly thrashed by Carlsen tourney after tourney, settling for second or third place. Then, he was just like a phoenix refusing to die in that Grand Prix event, he beat the one I'm rooting for Levon Aronian in a must win game and that's it. This streamer is legit alien. He plays way too online chess yet he still plays very solid otb. Very unthinkable but it is what it is. Hope he gets into this year's Candidates and try to push one last hurrah on the world title against Nepo/Ding.

Those who dislike him bring up old personality snafus when he was a bit younger and not as laid back. Not worth getting into, imho. I watch a few streamers. Hikaru is my favorite.

What a Legend
Hikaru Nakamura is a living legend. Period.
I came to know Hikaru after seeing the his memes, chuckled a bit, went to see his stream/videos, saw pogchamps, came to know new streamers and content creator, then saw his AWE inspiring games with his lovely personality, and started playing chess too after getting bested repeatedly by my brother and father and developing a bit of hatred towards chess i finally libing chess and now am pretty good at it. For me Hikaru made me realise that chess can be fun. I also watch Gothamchess vids a lot and feel that Hikaru and Levy are very much responsible for the revival of chess as a game to be enjoyed. And i couldn't be anymore grateful to them ❤
He has always been my favorite!
