ECW One Night Stand 2005 was a special pay per view produced by WWE, taking place in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Rob Van Dam approached Vince McMahon about holding an ECW reunion event after the WWE released the incredibly succesful "Rise and Fall of ECW" DVD documentary. Feeling that an ECW reunion on pay per view could make money, Vince McMahon agreed to put Extreme Championship Wrestling back on television for one night only.
ECW One Night Stand turned out to be a very interesting and entertaining wrestling show. Booking duties were handed over to Paul Heyman, and those who competed inside the ring were guys who only previously worked for ECW. Some ECW originals made surprise appearances to make the show feel more authentic, and the WWE even went out of their way when it came to the overall production of the show... ECW One Night Stand 2005 actually felt like a ECW show and not a WWE event. So succesful was the first ECW One Night Stand that the WWE done it again the following year, leading to the creation of WWE ECW.
This video looks at the entire ECW One Night Stand pay per view.

Sandman on the turnbuckle while the brawl is going on is a mood.
I’ve rewatched this pay pre view so many times, I never get tired of it.
It was barely 4 years after the closure of ECW, now that time has flied so much it seems so little time so the aura and the talent were still fresh. It is nice to watch the other ECW tribute show in which Sabu has also participated before this match against Rhyno called "Hardcore Homecoming".
The funny thing is that now nxt is on Tuesday’s so triple has to work Tuesdays lol
As a longtime fan of the original ECW, One Night Stand was a very emotional event, and it was a hopeful sign of things to come and then the WWE showed just how much they thought of the fans with their ECW Lite👎
@BrokenAscendancy

Me too man. I got super emotional from start and openly weeping towards the end. You know that was going to be the true last time you get to see the middle child at work. Unscripted, Uncoordinated, and just pure wrestling at its finest. I had goosebumps the entire night and I was hoping for copy righted music to play for every wrestler, maybe see old faces, but what I saw was satisfying because you know Vince with all his imperfections at least allowed ECW to have one last battle cry, he cant knock what gave birth to his Attitude Era.

I think this was the last PPV I ordered back in the day. I personally liked the Hardcore Homecoming shows a little more than this. But still I really enjoyed this show for its feel-good factor. Between late '04 to the summer of '05, i got to watch Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble, WM20, and of course, ECW One Night stand live on pay per view thanks to a friend who had recently moved into town and then moved away the next school year. It was one of the best core memories of my early teenage years, and those pay per views are my absolute favorites.
I remember being a kid watching this for the first time and being absolutely blown away by Awesome vs. Tanaka on that night.
This PPV is one of the strongest moments as a kid obsessed with wrestling. Me and my friends had bought the ECW dvd and watched it countless times and I learned how pretty much every wrestler I loved either began or had an important time in ECW. I still get chills watching Heymans promo, because we did believe, 100%, that this was the last time we'd see ECW.
Amazing topic. I think the time has come to do an ECW series.
The last time I truly enjoyed watching wrestling, damn those were such awesome times, I wish something as good as ECW started up now.

Thank you, for taking us back to the good old days. I have so many good memories watching ECW back in the mid 90s, staying up til 2 or 3am to record the events. This One Night Stand was one of the best PPVs i ever bought, bc it highlights the best that ECW had to offer in it’s hayday, and near everything about it felt like an authentic ECW ppv from the 90s. The fans are what made this company special, and that fact and idea has been lost to time now. Only those who stood in the stands of an old school ECW event, or the fans across the country straining to find ECW on their tv or internet, truly understand what made the phenomenon that is ECW so damn special!
I always loved this show. The Sandman entrance alone was worth the price of admission. Really great to see Lance Storm getting one chance to shine on his way out.
