Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress holds a special place in history - and not just for its immaculate beauty.
When the stunning Jackie Bouvier married future president, John F. Kennedy, everyone wondered who would be the lucky designer to create and craft her wedding gown. The First Lady of the United States to be donned a dress made by someone that elite society was quite surprised by.
Designer and couturier Ann Lowe was a black designer whose work on the future first lady’s gown should have allowed her to rise to fame - working with celebs and stars around the world. So, why didn’t it?
Jackie Kennedy’s style became one of the biggest influences for American women during her time in office. The first lady’s sense of fashion and interior design was a symbol of femininity and wifeliness that many strived to achieve.

Sad but true that many of the world’s greatest artists were recognized only after death. Ann Love was an elegant lady of amazing talent I loved that she refused to come in from the back door. She was one of America’s greats!!!
She may NOT have liked it, but it was iconic!!! She NEVER EVER AGAIN WAS A BEAUTIFUL AS SHE WAS THAT DAY,! Amazing work by the designer 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Jackie's daughter Caroline Kennedy has said more than once that her mother absolutely hated the gown, and equated it's cut/design to that of a lamp shade.🤣🤣🤣 Have always thought it wasn't really her style---she always preferred a more streamlined, chic and understated look.

They won't give credit to Lowe but wanted their designs, she was famous amongst the elite that's why they went to her.

The dress was beautiful and the designer should have been credited. But it's odd that it's not included that Jackie hated the dress. She had no say in it her mother and father in law decided. As we later saw her style was more simple elegant and timeless. That dress wasn't her at all.

The commentator in this video revealed that Jackie felt like she was wearing a lampshade because of the voluminous ballgown skirt, so that was an indication that Jackie didn't love her wedding gown. She preferred a more streamlined Parisian style wedding gown since she had just returned from visiting Paris, but her future father in-law explained how important it was to look impressive because so many photos would be taken of her in the wedding gown. Also, the video also revealed that Ann Lowe didn't let Jackie's dislike of the gown dampen her spirit or passion for designing high fashion.

Ikr. I noticed that too. A lot of videos on Jackie's wedding dress fails to mention she did not like the dress. In the book a woman named jackie, which is an extremely detailed and researched book on jackie, she hated her dress. She also decided from that point that she would not let her mother, or anyone else, tell her what she was going to wear. In my opinion and I have nothing but my opinion on this, Ann Lowe most likely was told by janet and most likely Joe's opinion also, what the dress would look like. You can see that ann could make some beautiful gowns and the dress is all Janet's taste..doesn't look like jackie taste or Anne's either. Had jackie and Ann worked together without janet I think Jackie's dress would have been different then what she ended up with. I don't really like the dress but love Jackie's style other then..same with princess diana. I don't like her wedding dress but everything else she wore was so iconic of the times and beautiful once she got into the 90s and rid of charles . Anyway I'm just rambling now.
I like Jacqueline and l am happy she chose a colour artist for her bride dress. It was the right moment to help colour people and Martin Luther King. The dress is a dream.

Ann lowe 's design made Jacqueline Kennedy look the best she ever looked in her life, I own the doll wearing Ann Lowe design and it is very detailed gores in the skirt of the dress. I see why women wanted to wear this design at their wedding Great job Ann!!!

I've heard she was considered the most beautiful woman in the world, back then. Though she is attractive, she's not even close to being the most beautiful woman in the world.

Not beautiful at all, her eyes are so far apart it’s a medical condition but I can’t remember the name of this abnormality. She reminded me of a frog that has its eyes on the sides of its head.

No one is saying Grace Kelly's dress wasn't beautiful, this is not about her dress nor is it a competitive study. This is about Ann Lowe's creation. Grace Kelly would want you to show grace and allow Ann's work to shine and stand on its own merit. Grace, we women need to extend it to each other, doing so here does not diminish the beauty of any other wedding dress or anyone else's work. Everything is not a competition, we all need to do better. I hope my comment is not offensive, but offers food for thought.

Yes, she hated that dress. The one that Caroline Bassette Kennedy chose & wore was more like what Jackie would have liked. I often think that Jackie & Caroline would have hit it off & become lasting friends, not just 'mother-in-law/daughter-in-law'.
Am i the only person who knows jackie didnt like the dress, and she didnt choose it, her mother did. Janet insisted jackie wear the dress. Jackie decided it was the last time she would let janet have a say over what she would wear. The story is in the book a woman named jackie y c.david heyman also in the book jackie oh! By kitty kelly and the book i just finished reading janet and jackie, cant remmeber the authors name. Not making this story up. I think the dress was gorgeous.
