Steve is a student of the blues and old r&b. He copped the line "really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree" from The Clovers' r&b hit 'Lovey Dovey' ("Lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time" is the next lyric in his song).

Steve Miller is a genius with that guitar. He may not have the speed of a Stevie Ray or Van Halen, but his creativity is unmatched. I saw him live and couldn't believe the things he was doing to the must have been at least 10 or 12 different guitars he played. So many sounds that I had thought were synthesizers were just him on a guitar.

I used to sneak out at night with a friend when I was 13-14 years old and he had a chrome plated stingray bike with a transistor radio strapped to the front handle bars. threshold/jet airliners. threshold a masterpiece of an intro to jet airliner.
My high school girlfriend used to say that this song reminded her of me... the midnight toker part (but not for the reason you might think). She refused to believe the truth... that I'd never done ANY drugs (this was early '70s, after all)... so she swore that I MUST be a midnight toker, sneaking it when I was all alone.
This old music has such a warmth to it. Like a comfy blanket. Doesn't seem to be present today. Like being wrapped in saran wrap.
Great reaction Jamel. I love this song and The Steve Miller band.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
That knowing look Jamel gives on the innuendos. Not slipping by...
My friend Ray (who only listens to rap.) fitted Steve Miller for several suits at a warehouse for men's clothing. He asked Steve if he was going to a special event. Steve says, I've got a couple of shows coming up. Then says, I'm Steve Miller. My friend says, Oh yeah, what's the name of your band? I almost died when he told that. Great question.
Saw the Steve Miller Band live in concert, maybe 20 years ago. Every song kept me dancing in my seat!
18 years old...in the navy..stationed on a destroyer out of pearl harbor..me & my friends jamming to this on the beaches and cruisin for a spot to body surf...oh the memories.
One of my favorites from them is “Jet Airliner”! It’s a cover they did and the intro song “Threshold” is always played preceding it when they are played together.
That bass line really makes this sing. "Some people call me the gangster of love" Everyone misses that line.

@@josephhickman1306 I heard from a fellow stoner that back in his day(late 50's/early 60's) girls used their bobby pins as roach clips.
I'd love to see you react to "Take the money and run" an other great Steve Miller song . He does have a lot of great songs !
I remember when this song first came out back in the day, to cool!
Yeah, this song was on Guitar Hero World Tour and as DLC in Rock Band. Honestly, it was what introduced me to Steve Miller Band's music.
The Steve Miller Band - *Space Cowboy.* _"I bet you weren't ready for that!"_
This song was around back in the 70's early 80's, if you only heard it on a video game you are missing out
“Swingtown” is another great one from The Steve Miller Band”
Steve Miller is sooo iconic. there are soooo many great sings they did !
"I really love your peaches, want to shake your tree. Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time" And it played on the radio again and again.

I remember hearing the claim on the radio by Vernon Green that it was based on HIS word, the "puppetutes"... "The word is probably a corruption of - or imagined variation on - the word 'puppetutes', which was itself an coinage, originated by Vernon Green at the age of 14. Green included the word 'puppetutes' in the lyrics of a doo-wop song released in 1954, 'The Letter,' which was performed by him and The Medallions." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pompatus
Another great one by them is Take the Money and Run. And yes he's a toker as in he smokes reefer at midnight. Rock and roll and drugs go together like pb&j
