thank you SO much! more shows would be welcome!
OMG, I can't believe I found this. I was in the audience during this taping. I didn't remember it being this corny. LOL. But I'm glad to be able to say I got to see all of these classic performers in person.
I played "desk moving guy #2" in the sketch ending at 40:45. That desk was WAY heavier than it looked. You can see me struggling under the weight.
England's Joe Baker is part of this great team of Steve Allen's players!
Steve Allen reads Donna Summer Hot Stuff @ 36:48

just as good as 24 years earlier, when in 1956, when Steverino did his ''dramatic reading" of Gene Vincent's hit "Be Bop a Lula"kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6GZj7CYqZzHaco.htmlsi=dP9wcDrrysXlL3b0

Thank you!
I watched this at age 14 in 1980 and remember thinking "I cant believe anyone could make Steve Martin seem unfunny." But this shtick just didnt make me laugh. I guess i shouldve been around in the 50s to appreciate it more
Here's the deal. The "satire" of "Hot Stuff" at 37:32 is so obtuse. He doesn't realize how something like Def Comedy Jam could easily do a similar take down of "This Could Be the Start of Something Big." "You lunchin' at 21 an' watchin' yo diet. Declinin' a Charlotte Russe, acceptin' a fig!" No room for any superiority complex at all. I used to like Steve Allen, but his pomposity really gradually turned me off.

Yes. You're absolutely correct. I watched this at age 14 when it aired & remember this! I thought, He really doesn't get that it's not about the lyrics but the MUSIC. Of course, I could almost be like him TODAY dissecting some current music lyrics 😂
