The Statler Brothers -- "A Little Farther Down The Road"

The photo is of Lew DeWitt, who wrote this song and sings the lead on this version, taken from the Statler's 1979 Mercury LP, "The Originals." I do not own the rights to the photo or the song.

They were all @ their best, al l the time. The only thing I di dn't like about Phil is most o f the time he just lip synche- d instead of singing out lou d. He also should've sang le ad.a time or two.

I am so thankful that Lew was included in the Hall of Fame with the others. He certainly deserved it. I wish they could have been a quintet.

Not to take anything away from Jimmy Fortune, cause he is great, but, Lew DeWitt had a unique sound that no one can match! Love to listen to them both! Miss you Lew!

This is an extremely rare case of a Statler Brothers song sung entirely by Lew DeWitt. It'd be even more so if one of their songs was sung entirely by Phil, which, unfortunately, never happened.

I hadn't heard this song until now, which is embarrasing since I've been a Statler Bros. fan for around 35 years! But I love it ...AND I love and miss Lew DeWitt - there will never be a better tenor than he was. God bless you all. :-)

Lew gave the Satter's that unique sound which cannot be duplicated. I think it was that 'sound' that make them famous. Jimmy is good but Lew's voice had a uniqueness and quality that was special and only to him. The song where they imitate guitars, Lew was in tune with the Dubrow. (And what a good-looking man.)

Thank YOU for posting this. Lynchburg, Va is where I was born and raised. I've been a Statler Brothers fan for nearly 50 years thanks to my mother. I also lived in a tiny little place called Etowah, NC outside of Asheville, NC while I went to college in Brevard, NC. Visited Charlotte and Cherokee many times. Love the mention of Roanoke, VA as well. Just a few miles up the road from Lynchburg. Lew was one great song writer.
