Absolutely based. They should put the cd back on radiance to put these hpal mains in their place. I LOVE disc in this expansion man. Its so much fun and I love how every pull I feel like I could have played better. I think the biggest thing that makes healer gear less important for parsing is that 99% of healers dont SPEND ALL THEIR MANA and so if you are good at managing mana you can outheal someone with way more gear than you by just being oom at the end of the fight.

It's all about healing smarter, not harder. You can heal more if you understand the fights better than the other healers.

I’d argue holy priest divine hymn is an insane raid cd that is probably broken. If you look at top holy priest logs you will see the top ones are getting 2 really well timed hymns out per fight.

The reason everyone is running hpal disc is because theyre the 2 most common healers at the moment. Its hard to find rshams and druids. Also they're perfectly good healers and any healer combo will work.

nice video ! I agree with all your points, and specifically about the mana management going away - that certainly reduced the fun of being a healer. As someone who played as healer priest in classic/tbc/wrath/cata back in the days, this was one of the aspects of what made playing a healer interesting. My hope for WoW is Classic+, and I hope that they won't throw a bunch of broken/imbalanced abilities at each class, like in SOD, but thoroughly test each ability interraction and make a more core classic experience with new challenging content, not what we have now in SOD (that frankly feels a lot more retail than vanilla)

it happens at 30 energy, so pre rejuv everyone, then pre-cast healing touch on dps #1, swiftmend dps #2, NS healing touch yourself. If NS is on cooldown use barkskin instead. You can also use tree form pre-emptively, get lifeblooms + rejuv on everyone before the storm shield happens then do the same strat I mentioned above. Also if you're staying on that platform for the whole fight you can tranq.

Healing in cata from my limited time healing in cata felt bad and weird. I started in cataclysm back in 2011 but i could never get into healing and always chose to either dps or tank. it took until season of mastery before I started healing and enjoying it and now im a healing main. I got my first cutting edge in DF as a holy priest (I havent been able to stand retaill since bfa) and I have been really enjoying healing SoD. Healing in cata has just felt out of place and awkward and it might be because I play priest, it might be because i suck at healing it cata. But i don't like it :\

what flavor of priest did u play? cuz disc is really hard in cata and it won't feel smooth to play for most players I suspect, and holy priest is really clunky (imo). I'd recommend trying a different healer ... shaman feels pretty smooth imo.

When you don't have a lot of gear, healing in cata is rough. Once you get a bit of gear it gets a lot easier but priest is one of the harder classes to heal well with. Healing in cata is probably one of the most fun healer expansions because it requires skill. Wrath was fun but it was stupid fun, like the type of fun where you can just turn your brain off. Cata requires a lot more thought before pressing the same button on repeat.

Wait, I'm really surprised at your take on HPal. I hadn't played past Cata in the past, i started hpal thinking it'd be easy like Wrath. Holy Power changes EVERYTHING with what you have to manage with them. Using crusader strike to build HP in low dmg phases so you have either Light of Dawn or Holy Shock ready to instant heal something. Knowing when you can safely skip a GCD to 'save' for a big LoD. They have tons of random cooldowns that come up in various fights, protection, sac, salv, etc. that are sometimes reactive instead of something they can plan for. I found both disc and rsham to be far easier to play so far. But, I'm a noob compared to you, maybe I'm missing something on priest and shaman that would elevate my performance. I'd love to see you do a video like you did in your healer guides, where you broke down some of the heroic raid encounters with tips/tricks for maximizing performance for that specific class. i.e. precasting PoH on chogall when he sucks in the minion. If you did that for the entire raid, that'd be awesome.

I like holy pali in dungeons I think it has a highskill cap, you have to use all ur spells. But I just hate it in raids (especially 25 man) because the gameplay ends up being 3 button faceroll while also being really strong. You don't even have to use crusader strike and holy light in 25 man if you don't want to and I don't like that. The most disappointing thing for me is that I actually love playing h pal in cata when u have to use all ur spells and I was actually planning on maining h pal this expansion because I thought the gameplay was going to be that way (since in og cata u did have to use all ur spells). But the dragon soul patch completely ruins the class for me so i'm just kinda unhappy about it.

@@macdaddyswag2585 You don't 'need' to do it to beat the encounters, but if you wanna parse high you absolutely should be doing some crusader strikes. Not spamming it, but whenever you can squeeze them in. Even with the mana cost of CS, LoD becomes your most efficient HPM, and Word of Glory is the best HPS. In other words, maximizing holy power generation without sacrificing heals at a bad time, similar to knowing when to switch to attonement on disc. Just like timing PoHs on disc, timing your LoDs and Holy Radiance is huge for maximizing throughput too.

@@AAGEnzee Wrong. Top 500 paladins use almost no crusader strikes and their top 2 heals are Holy Radiance and 3rd being LoD.

I miss wrath when I could put up two dots on the boss as a disc priest and get a 90 dmg parse

I agree with your sentiment towards hpal+disc combo, but I will tell you why it's the standard: Hpal is great on long fights and in shitty guild groups, meanwhile on an rdru you need brain and some gear to pump out critical heal (hpal just needs to press LoH lmao) and sustain throughout a long fight with crappy dps. Another main reason - you have described it: Hpal/disc transition well into FL/DS, also there are some things that rdru can't do like Hpal would, like solo heal Baleroc or bubble+taunt in case of shit happening.

thanks for the response but I don't think I agree. Resto druid just straight up does more healing in 10 man unless the entire raid is literally stacked up for the whole fight, so resto druid is technically better on long fights, short fights and pretty much any kind of fights because their healing just works better in 10 man. R druid doesn't have lay on hands but its not necessary to have. A lot of the times lay on hands is used but wasn't necessary to keep the person alive. Not sure about this solo healing point, h pal can solo heal baleroc but r druid can solo heal ragnaros and many more bosses in general because their healing works better in 10 man.

@@de-so nah r druid tank healing is way higher than h pal cuz u just keep 3x lifebloom + rejuv on the tank for the whole fight (and nourish every so often for mastery). H pals have the beacon heals which are alright, but holy radiance doesn't transfer so thats a RIP, palis can directly heal the tank with divine light but druids can do the same thing but better with healing touch spam + hots.

Try playing holy paladin in retail right now and see how much effort u spend to do half an evoker or priest

The reason blizzard didn't listen in WoD was because they are already 1 or 2 expansions ahead of schedule so it wouldn't make sense to waste the time to fix the current expansion when they are already making Legion and BFA. They are doing the same with "The War With In" they are making it a 3 expansion saga and each expansion will come out significantly faster than previous expansions. I am not a fan of the direction they are going in have have not played Retail since BFA and probably wont play retail for a long while if ever.

You know what else doesn't make sense? Stubbornly sticking to changes that cause the game to lose half its subscribers.

Hpal/Disc becuz Druid literally brings nothing to the table when it comes to eHP Raid-CD's, would even prefer resto shaman before druid

You have inspired me to start giving a fuck about my shitty rdruid parses and actually start min maxing. Also, “war within looks the same as dragonflight”. This is the new blizzard business model for like 8 years. Listen and communicate with community -> complicate things so people are interested in figuring out -> surprise it’s the same as the last game of this genre we made(see d3/4)

I am playing Cata because he argued that it's more balanced and more fun. Well it's not. Holy Paladins still generally dominate and are op, Disc priests are still preferred over Holy and Divine Aegis stacking is the new PWS spam, Holy still feels mixed, and generally as a healer you go oom if the dps is bad and the boss fight drags unless you are Disc. Oh and this raid tier is really boring.

The comment isn't supposed to make sense for the players who kill bosses on retail before a gazillion nerfs. I'm speaking for the 99.9% of the playerbase that doesn't experience the game that way. This same logic applies to the top speedrun/parsing guilds on classic. Hardly anyone in the world plays the game like that, so there's literally 0 point in discussing the way that those kinds of players play the game because its completely irrelevant to the vast majority of players.

"Retail is an APM check with shiny buttons that also has raid cooldowns and modifiers which multiply your healing by an enormous amount for a short period of time, resulting in heavily scripted (mrt note) gameplay where any optimizations you make to your gameplay outside of those scripted burst windows doesn't matter. If you're in a top guild, what you do outside of those burst windows matters matters a little bit more only because the content is tuned INCREDIBLY tightly, but again thats not how 99% of players experience the game so its not even worth talking about. Classic is mostly a mana management type of game with massively less smart healing, modifiers and raid cooldown emphasis, resulting in gameplay where every global and every decision matters significantly more at all levels of play. Now In response to this "so who are you comparing it with? A good player vs. a bad player?" I am not comparing with anybody. I'm talking about the gameplay as it is for the vast majority of the population and i'm completely ignoring how the top percentile of guilds play the game because it is completely irrelevant to the majority of the playerbase.

Or just play them all? I play every healer. Another thing, ratings for healers are pretty easy throughout the xpac. Disc is the best, then Hpal, then R sham then R druid. That goes all the way to DS. It was back in the day, it still is now. 😊 holy pally disc is the best because of raie cds. You get sac and AM plus insane raid healing and tank healing with great mana control.
