I'm obsessed with this style!!! it's old Japanese buildings that are in the middle of Tokyo, so they're covered in billboards and stuff. feels like an anime. I love the converters as light details on that top ledge, it looks like red prayer candles!

The outstanding letters are the 'm' and 'p' because they are long and tall respectively. The 's' is quickly sorted into the short curved letters category with 'a'. So your brain has the letters 'm', 'p', and a small curved one and finds the "most logical" word that fits. As "map" has been in your lexicon for a long time, and "smp" lacks the vowel needed for a word.

The futuristic look, the Japanese inspiration, the crowded dense building placement you're hinting at, that's all giving cyberpunk. But so far without those sleek featureless corpo monoliths, and in fact going to the opposite with this dense detailing. I'm inclined to call it cyberpunk maximalism :D (I'm sure someone else has put those words together before, but I think it fits)

Agreed, in retrospect the fact the output of the spawner was full should have been suspicious. Normally any leftover zombies would have been despawned once the last player had left the area, and impulse wasn't that much faster than Joel for getting in that room to spawn so many. In theory gem could have been close enough for them to stay spawned in. PS: not to blame joel for not noticing, it didn't even click for me until just now. And this information only implies someone else is close to the spawner, not that its been trapped.

It was so easy to escape that I think Joel either was too shocked to do anything or was letting himself die. All he had to do was place the water he had above him and swim up. If that is the case I get it tho it wouldn’t be entirely entertaining to have people constantly survive trap after trap.

This japanese cyberpunk style is really giving Stray vibes. Could be cute to have a little orange cat hanging out somewhere as an easter egg❤

Seems like we have both impulse and bdubs PLUS Joel making cyberpunk bases! which is very fitting for a newcomer whose *apparently* skilled in details just like bdubs! and I've wanted something like this since the start of the season. OH IM SO EXCITED.

I LOVE watching Joel build like this. Just seeing his process of playing around with stuff, looking for weird and unique ways of getting details. I aspire to this. Truly Joel is the type of Minecraft builder I want to be and try to work towards.

Japanese build is incomplete without an onsen... and such a great location as well, cherry blossom trees in the backgound near onsen imo is just spectacularily insane (biased sure :D)

I loved this episode. It felt like we just got to hang out while Joel taught us how to detail. Nice change from a bunch of time lapses (not that time lapses aren’t great but it’s nice to see the Hermits thought processes too). Keep up the great work Joel. I look forward to watching your next episode!

Trap idea. I don't know if your are still red. But Bdubs shows in his latest episode that he plants three saplings in his base when he logs out. If they grow, he knows somebody has been loading the chunks of his base. I assume he cuts them down afterwards. Would be a perfect opportunity to place a observer - tnt - minecart trap beneath one of them.

@@theforestofoak okay, but that's entirely up to joel, who never enjoys doing the early game grind in his other series he didn't participate in ren's mining coop so there is a good chance he has not gone back to spawn since he first set out, and now that he has died, there isn't the fear of being reaper'd if he tries checking out spawn again

I am so hyped to see a whole village/city in that style above AND underground would be really cool, maybe with a subway station or an underground blackmarket

I can't wait for the part of the season when everyone is like "there's so much lag, everyone remove any signs you aren't using"

Thats a really nice style you are rocking there. Even though it's build of so many different materials and colours, I really like the base. Especially the fact, that everything is so close together and - for the lack of a better word - crowded. And I expect a lot more of Yoel and Ischkall. You two have a great vibe together!

I love the theme you're going for. Very Tokyo-Shibuya city esque with the style and I'm all for it. I also really like how you tried the kanji flag design. I think it was a wonderful idea. If you want some ideas for wall decorations outside, adding more a/c units or vents could be cool. There's a few designs floating around for those. Also, I would love to see a small ramen street stall in one of the small side roads between things one day. Also, vending machine designs as a means to hide a potential input and output for a super smelter hidden in a building or the mountain could be fun too. Your enthusiasm is really sparking my own with this theme. I'm hoping you're having fun and I look forward to future episodes!

The signs and banners concern me, since I believe they are entities and can be fairly laggy. Might be a good idea to ask Impulse about lag related things like that. Using the server's Statues Plugin to make some really cool details is something he could maybe ask ZombieCleo to teach him how to do.

I looked it up, apparently banners don't count as entities in the same way that item frames do, so it shouldn't be too bad for lag.

Joel, this is amazing. I have watched so many years of Hermitcraft and I still managed to learn so much about design from this one video. Great job!

Joel voice shows that he’s angry at his friends. For making that trap full of zombies. But at the same time he’s impressed by now they trick him. Joel can’t stay mad at his friends.

For the line things on the signs, there is a way i think by switching text, to get filled in squares. Bdubs did it last season in his cyberpunk themed base, and i think it would be a good thing to steal and use in your builds!

For some reason, this type of building style reminds me so much of Spirited Away. With the Japanese inspired structure mixed in with modern and industrial take on it. Loving this build, Joel!

Dunno how it would work, but it would be neat to string leads from the telephone pole to other areas to look like wires and connect the area more too. Love all the detail work on these new builds though!

Joel should maybe work with Impulse and Bdubs to create custom map signs as they’re building a cyberpunk city and those might be applicable between all three!! Love to see Joel stretching his creative building muscles and branch out in all these different styles of architecture.

Quite a few hermits are going for some kinda cyberpunk or modern look- but I'm loving the Japanese inspiration on Joel's build!! Can't wait for the neon end rod designs!!

Treating a minecraft build with the detail level you'd find in a Lego modular building set, great to see.

Joel remains a master builder. Somewhere between bdubs and keratin, fwhip and pearl. He's his own guy, though, that employs many of the strategies they use.
