Standbys are a vital part of any Broadway cast. They're the backbone of a company, ready to go on at a moment's notice when someone gets sick or injured during the show or goes on vacation. In Come From Away, standbys Tony LePage and Happy McPartlin have a more daunting task than usual: They cover not one role, but five apiece. How do they do it? How did they memorize it? I saw a role switch actresses in the first act of RENT & it wasn't announced until the beginning of the second act. Because of this I got to see Gwen Stewart play Joanne (except for Tango Maureen)! Gwen literally exited stage right as the homeless woman, then almost immediately she came back onto the stage from the other side dressed as Joanne to sing We're Okay. I actually think it's fun seeing understudies because they always bring something different to the roles.

Tony LePage was amazing as Kevin Tuerff, would have loved to see him in the other roles!
Tony LePage was really great as Kevin T. etc in the Apple production.

@@royperez8965 he sued Come From Away bc he was an antivaxxer and they were over him. He alleges it’s religious discrimination 🙄
