The Standard: Brian Chontosh and Team Shut Up & Row Take On The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

Спорт

On December 12, 2022, three former US Navy SEALS and a retired US Marine launched from Spain's Canary Island, La Gomera, in a rowboat race that would last no less than 30 days. What lies ahead? Rowing two men at a time, 2 hours on, 2 hours off-every hour, of every day-until they crossed the finish line 3000 miles away on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
With more than 700 days of team building, logistics and training leading up to this race they face total uncertainty. Through intimate interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, The Standard-a 2023 documentary film from Rogue Fitness-shows the enormous amount of mental and physical preparedness required for this competition; from building a team and a vessel in lockstep, to forging the trust and camaraderie needed to spend more than a month together in tight quarters, with only the food they brought and the fresh water they can make.
Team Shut Up & Row (SU&R) has recruited world renowned and world record holder Angus Collins as their coach and team manager. The team includes four U.S. Military veterans with well-earned reputations for tackling extreme challenges: James Hein, Chriss Smith and team captain Brian Nicholson, the SEALs and Rogue Journeyman Brian “Tosh” Chontosh, the Marine. They came together with a shared love of adventure and a mission to raise awareness and support for the Big Fish Foundation, a charitable organization, founded by Chontosh, that helps veterans transition to civilian life through a renewed connection to the fundamental principles of service.
The Standard is part of Rogue Fitness’s growing library of original documentary films, all of which can be found on the Rogue KZread page or in the Rogue Index here: www.roguefitness.com/theindex...

Fantastic film lads! It captured the atmosphere of the prep and actual crossing perfectly! I was one half of the Roaring40s duo, and we were at sea for almost three weeks after you hit Antigua’s shores 🤢 Seeing those waves knock you off your seats brings back so many memories! You guys smashed it. Well done 💪

This was an awesome watch! Super inspirational and its always awesome seeing what a group of determined and competent people are capable of. Some random questions though - what did they eat? Did they play music or anything or just stoically row for a month? How did they poop!

Loved it but can anyone tell me what their final placing was? I cannot find it anywhere. If it was mentioned in the Doc, I must have missed it.

    I'm doing this row

  • @mikemalloy1681

I like to row, and if I were younger I would like to join you guys. However, I have a question. Your oars are designed for sculls, where the rower is much closer to the water than in your boat. A lot of your effort is wasted when the oar does not reach the water on one side of the boat. It would seem that a specially made oar for this class of boat would be in order. Maybe it should be 18" to 24" longer than the ones you are using now. That way it would seem from my perspective you would increase the probability of each stroke striking the water (catch). What are your thoughts on that?
