THE STACK: the ceramic coating 2 layers, 8 years on top de 3 years

You only need one layer of DIY Detail Ceramic Coating. But so many of you have been asking: can I apply 2? If so, what do I need to know???
(Find The Stack here: bit.ly/TheStac...)
Stacking coatings isn’t the same as multiple coats of the same product. With our coatings, you can stack the 3 year Graphene Ceramic Coating over our 5 and 8 year Ceramic coatings. Why would you want to do that? It gives you the benefits of the 5 or 8 year coatings, plus the characteristics of the 3 year Graphene coating. This means you’re getting extreme slickness, higher gloss AND water spot resistance. Plus enhanced self cleaning ability.
Here’s what you need to know about application.
There’s a window of opportunity to stack coatings, 2-8 hours. Before the 2 hour mark, the 3-year will damage the other coating you’ve already applied. In the window of opportunity (2-8 hours after applying that first layer of coating), the 2 mix together to become another coating - enhancing the properties of both. After 8 hours? Instead of combining the coating, you’re simply adding the 3-year coating OVER the other.
As always, let us know if you have any questions. And happy detailing!

This video is exactly what I needed! I also like to experiment with different products and coatings! I’m about to purchase a brand new car and this is exactly what I’m looking for to take care of my new ride! I believe you have sold me on this idea 💡 and I even would venture to say I may go with your whole line of products for my new ride! I’m a firm believer in using all of the same brand products! I feel they work better together. Thank you so much for this video! It has opened up my mind to endless possibilities 👏🤩

Be prepared to spend time on a vehicle if your coating. Washing, claying, polishing, panel prep, then you finally can put on the coating. Did a ceramic on a f150 and that took me 6 hours. Very labor intensive if you want to make sure the coating lives up to the durability claims.

@aRANDOMqUICKIEgunsandfun for a coating to live to it's durability claims the maintenance of it is important- proper period washing, decon etc along with the environment it lives in daily, that plays a much bigger factor then whether you chose to polish or not beforehand etc

A quick gloss question about topping the 5 and 8 year with 3 year. Since the 5 year is the "gloss king" will the 3-year still enhance the gloss of the 5 year? And a quick follow up about Ceramic Gloss. I'm super impressed with Ceramic Gloss. Will that enhance the gloss further if applied by applicator every few months? I really appreciated the well thought out and simple names to go along with some crazy chemistry that just seems to do better than most of the competition. The videos you put out or top notch as well! Thank you for all you do for the detailing community. It's greatly appreciated! Will one bottle of your 8 year and one bottle of the 3 year do a crew cab 8 foot bed truck not including glass or chrome bumpers? Some coatings I've used will and others won't, so I'm curious as to if you know or not. Thanks.

I did buy the stack recently and am waiting on spring to detail my truck. So, its one coat of 8 year and one coat of 3 year right? Also, I was going to use the same coating on my new boat however, after talking to Glidecoat, they mention that, their coating is formulated for gel coat. Is yours equivalent and is there truth to what they are saying?

When stacking the 3 year on the 8 year does it increase the water spot abilities of the 3 year for a longer period of time due to the fusion of the 2 coatings? Or does that not effect the chemical makeup of the graphene oxide in that regard? Some coatings seem to only benefit by 10 to 25% when adding a second layer according to some people (really hard to tell in my experience) do you have a more scientific way of knowing how much longer or chemically resistant the stacking will be compared to a single layer of your 8 year coating? What is the shelf life of an unopened bottle of your ceramic coatings? Do they lose efficacy after that period or will they start to crystalyze in the sealed bottle? This assuming they are kept in a dark, cool room. Are your coatings freeze thaw stable as far as transporting them in the winter? I've heard of people storing their coatings in a freezer to increase shelf life. Is there any truth to that or would that be due to the individual chemistry in a coating. Thanks!

  • @diydetailofficial

Thanks for the great questions! Stacking doesn’t change the durability of the Graphene component. The benefits of combining the 2 like we do( unlike putting the same product on twice) gives you additional slickness, gloss, and self cleaning ability. Freezing isn’t a good option, keep them at room temperature ( we have aluminum bottles, so light doesn’t change anything).

@diydetailofficial So you're saying that even though it may have 8 year ceramic on it, it's possible that in 2yrs or so, the ceramic coating will still be there but the gelcoat under that ceramic coating will be starting to get cloudy & oxidizing again? This is the fifth vehicle that I have ceramic coated and was aware of the small bottle of ceramic and I was coating a very large vehicle and tried to make it last but it didn’t. I would strongly recommend that you offer your ceramic coating in a larger bottle too for us DIYers that are tackling a large vehicle and do not have your skill set. One can’t just run down to their local Canadian Tire and buy more product, it takes at least a week to order on the net!! Being a professional detailer since 1986, one thing that drives my nuts is : people who call themselves detailers mentioning to stack dis - similar things like a wax followed by a synthetic/ wax over it as a good thing . You have a clear coat on top - which is a acrylic paint, then you apply a ceramic layer on top of that - followed by a graphene - based one. Explain to me like a 3rd - grader how the ceramic layer bonded to the acrylic clear coat, or how the graphene - one bonded to the ceramic layer. Answer is : they did not , and people cannot realize that swirl marks and fine scratches are caused by washing which distorts the appearance by using soap to clean it The more you polish your paint to fix scratches and swirl marks, the more it will reduce it's thickness and shine. PUTTING MORE LAYERS OF GREASY CRAP ON YOUR PAINTED AREAS IS DOING MORE DAMAGE - THEN GOOD.

@@diydetailofficial No idea of your detailing experience level , but by your response to me - it ain't much. I have been telling people for YEARS that applying different products on- top- of -each -other causes swirl marks and fine scratches when washed with a mild shampoo. For years detailers like yourself told me how I did not have a clue what I'm talking about when stacking layers of waxes. I never said : ceramic coatings were greasy - you implied - wrongly something I did not say. Also , How does a graphene coating, bond to a ceramic one that is supposedly bonded to the vehicle's clear coat ? Answer: it doesn't. Correction detailers make a fortune from vehicle owners who think slapping layers of different waxes / synthetic - waxes on top of a ceramic coating is plain - stupid.
