The Springfield 1866 is the single-shot option for the medium weapons. It's a little cumbersome, uses interesting ammo, and suffers from medium ammo syndrome. And yet, anytime I want to criticize it, I remember it is only $38 dollars.

    While the reload is listed in the store as 2s, in reality it's 2.6s and thus longer than the Martini-Henry. It's really puzzling why so many store page stats are wrong.

    I always loved the Martini, but I can't stand using the Springfield. While both are relatively cheap options, the Martini has all the benefit of long ammo, one of the best Iron sights in the game, always felt snappier than the Springfield (now I know that it actually is), and hits hard enough to cause player panic.

    Came here to say this. More people need to know that spare ammo, MV and hipfire are the only meager advantages this thing has over the Martini. I enjoy the Springfield too, but now that Martinis get handed out with free hunters on the regular, I just don't roll the 3 slot Springfields much.

    love the martini. To me it feels like an aggressive version of the Sparks. Super cheap and I love running explosive in its alternate slot. I dont use it much but it's always helpful to blow open reinforced doors and windows, especially since in the 4 star range most hunters dont know how to react when a "safe" door is suddenly open. Also helps speed up fights when all the windows are wide open and you can see into the whole compound. Plus, the explosive ammo on the Henri can one tap immolators to the chest. They still explode but they immediatelydie. Dont always run FMJ cause the martini already has slow muzzle speed, plus I like to have an ammo pool i can reliably refill, running explosive/fmj i need special ammo boxes, running regular = no problem

    Funny enough, upgrading Sprinfields ended up costing same amount of resources if not more than building new riffles, because old barrels couldnt handle new ammunitions pressure levels so they should been swapped too.

  • @Omniseed

    @Omniseed

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't think it was the barrels, I think it was all the time to machine and fit the bits. By the time the relatively inexpensive conversion components were competently installed, the labor and materials suddenly matched or exceeded the cost of new manufacture rifles and the end product wasn't as good either, because they were still little more than hacked up surplus rifles at the end of the day. The barrels should have been fine since smokeless powder was still a couple of decades away from mass adoption and the metallic cartridge rounds weren't much different in performance from the paper cartridges they originally fired

    No, actually. The issue was that they reduced the caliber from .58 to .50 and in doing so had to insert a barrel sleeve which wasn't the most sturdy. the remedy for that was to simply elongate the receiver of the trapdoor mechanism. Later production rifles (around 1870 or so) did have new barrels but mostly because the stock of old barrels was running low. Even with new barrels the rifles were much cheaper than making something new because, while the barrel was the most expensive part, they basically got every other piece of the rifle for free; all the lockwork, furniture, etc.

For anyone who is curious about playing that over-the-shoulder co-op shooter version of Hunt depicted at the beginning of the video: Before it's closure, CryTek USA spun off into Gunfire Games and made "Remnant: From the Ashes" which shares a lot of DNA with that proto-hunt. So for clarification about "quick rate of fire", remembering that this game is loosely based around the post-civil war era in what appears to be the deep South, the 1872 Trapdoor Springfield was hailed as a cheap but effective modernization to the U.S Army's current line-up of firearms. 1. You had the Henry Repeating rifle, arguable one of the best of it's class but expensive. 2. You had the Spencer Repeating rifle, not as good as the henry but still up there in terms of capability of sustaining fire. Cheaper than the henry but still rather costly. 3. You had the Whitworth rifle which was more or less more common amongst confederate arms stockpiles. Was known for it's excellent accuracy and precision as well as strange hexagonal shaped bullets. 4. You had the Sharps rifle/carbine which was an accurate single shot breach loading carbine (Known as the Sparks LLR in this game), it was cheaper than the repeaters but still much more expensive than the Springfield/Enfield muzzleloaders. So, by the end of the war approx. over 700,000 Springfield rifles we're produced versus the roughly 12-15,000 Sharps rifles/ 90,000 Sharps carbines/6-7,000 Henry repeating rifles/ and about 200,000 Spencer rifles. Not to mention the scarcity of Whitworth rifles as they we're a British import to the South. Which means, the Springfield rifles remained as the Army's primary firearm for several years until the Conversion of the Springfields to the Trapdoor mechanism. Which technically improved the Fire-rate of the U.S Army despite it only being used by Pioneers and US Cavalry out west (also known as the buffalo Soldiers) until it was later phased out by the Krag-Jorgenson Rifle in 1892.

A lower ADS sensitivity might make fine tuning a little easier 2) If you are on PC, lower your field of view to its lowest setting (85 I think), this can make targets bigger 3) use high velocity ammo. High velocity ammo on the winfield, the centennial's base ammo, and the bolt action long ammo rifles have a pretty high velocity which means you'll have to lead less. That can turn headshots into a point and click adventure 4) Use better sights. The winfield and the mosin have really clean posts. Easy to use and align.

Sparks is more than 5x the price of a Springfield, reloads half as fast and still obscures a portion of your view while aiming on top of all that. Plus I'd much rather run a Marksman scope than a Sniper, and an explosive pocket rifle with knife attachment over a single shot pistol (Though it's pretty close.) I might be in the minority... but give me the Springfield any day. Alternatively, put a Martini Henry in my hands and I'll have absolutely nothing to complain about.

    Eh idk it's iron sights kinda suck with the hammer blocking up the right side. Scoped variants on both are top tier for cheap long range weapons.

    They should add FMJ and high velocity ammo for the springfield, maybe even for the Pax. For the springfield it would ne no issue in terms of balance as "better" medium rifles already got it.

    Springfield reloads are so quick that they're the only single-shot gun I'm willing to ever take without a pistol for finishing kills. Still shouldn't, but sometimes when summons demand, a hand crossbow is at least doable... But where it really shines is not when you pair it with the pax sadly. At least, not for the sake of dumdum. Play the springfield with dumdum, and pair it with an FMJ pistol or the like. Bleed your enemy, then hammer them through the walls to finish your kills. Having a high-pen pistol also means you don't have to play that dumb minigame of guessing what ammo type you should have loaded in your rifle, based on whether you need penetration. It's as simple as getting your pistol out when you need pen, and using the springfield otherwise. You're probably never gonna burn through all 12 (or 24) shots of dumdum with just the springfield using them anyway, so there's no reason to pool ammo for it.

    One thing worth noting is the Springfield reload isn't that must slower than using the bolt action on a lebel. That tiny difference in time won't make much difference if your positioning is good. Springfield ha sa deceptively high fire rate.

    Dumdum makes it pretty decent; otherwise, it's pretty terrible compared to the sparks, martini, or vetterli. Also, 2 nice springfield loadouts: Spring (half dumdum/half regular ammo) + Scottfield Swift fanning, Spring Compact + Dual pistols.

    So the gap from small to medium ammo is not a huge difference and then you have the gap between medium and Large and its HUGE. So now you have the Uppercut in large ammo. Its soo much better then all other handguns its not even close. They made it more expensive but its still incredibly meta. Making it more expensive STILL didnt offset the value of the gun. Its so good that it would need to be like 3 times more expensive. Its better then all the other handguns and a good amount of rifles too which makes zero sense. They either need to make medium better so that the handguns can somewhat compete from a value standpoint.$414 is still stupid cheap for what this handgun can do.
