The p320 has that as well, and has had it for quite some time. Not a knock on HS Produkt (the actual manufacturer). I welcome the Echelon. Rather than an evolution (P250 to P320) it's a new design, with a low bore axis and a removeable fire control. I love my 320s (have an M18 and an X Carry), but I also enjoy variety, which is why I have an APX A1, 2 Arex Deltas, Tisas PX-9 (XDM clone), PDP, and a Platypus. I handled an Echelon and am going to pick one up later this month on the tax free weekend. I think it's a great design incorporating a lot of innovations from a lot of popular guns, along with the optics system that is IMO a game changer. Can't wait to take it out and put it through it's paces.

The Croatians at HS seem to have done a great job on their successor for the XD, which should give Sig a run for their money. From what I've seen on other reviews, the mags share the same metal tube, just different baseplates. There seems to be a 'gotcha' with the extended baseplates that will allow it to come apart if not properly assembled.

  • @hks956

The base Echelon is a whole lot better than the base p320 nitron. I'm not really planning on getting one or interested in either but will be very interested in the options they have for frames. If Wilson Combat makes one that gets rid of the ambi mag release... I could be a buyer. Trigger and slide already look to be best in class for poly guns.

Really appreciate this review from you MAC. I've been waiting to get your opinion on this handgun. A lot of people are talking about how its a clone this, clone that, just another this, just another that...but that couldn't be further from the truth. HS Produkt took EVERYTHING that EVERYONE wanted in their favorite striker fired polymer pistol and made it absolutely perfect from the factory in one firearm. I think that's an important point too...this is NOT a Springfield Armory product. They put their name on it and import it...but just like the XD, Hellcat, and Hellion, this is manufactured by HS Produkt in Croatia...and just like their other firearms, it's proving to be an absolute beast in reliability and during torture tests so far. We're really excited to see where this firearm goes!

I don't think you'll have to worry. HS Produkt has been in the game for a while, and they've shown that they make reliable and durable firearms. Lots of people saying they won't buy the first run of Echelons because it's new and the Prodigy launch was crap, but this isn't Springfield. HS knows what they are doing and have been working on this pistol for a while. The only quirk I've seen out of all the reviews and forum posts I've read is the optic mount plate coming loose. Well, just loctite the screws before you take it out if you don't put an optic on it. At least it's better than the APX A1 where some people couldn't even get the screws out and had to take it to a smith or send it to Beretta. Love my APX regardless LOL

However I have been looking to finally get an optic ready handgun, and this is honestly a compelling option. Love to see a reasonably priced handgun so full of good features in the design and ergos. 17 & 21 round capacity is good to see too for a potential TNP-style “go to war” pistol. Looking at the Echelon from the perspective of a long time owner of the various generations of XD's, the grip safety and striker status indicator are gone, optics mounting does not require replacement of the sights for co-witnessing or purchase of a separate adapter plate (as was the case for my XD-M Elite), and I like what they did with the shape of the disassembly lever. Going back to 2004, when I was looking for something in 9mm in addition to my 1911 (.45 ACP), I chose the XD9 Service over the Glock 19 based on feel driven by the grip angle. If the Echelon has mimicked the Glock grip angle, as well as the modular design, it tells me that Springfield / HS Produkt is going after different subsegments within the market.

I bought my a few days ago and I can't wait to go the range to shoot it. I like the fact you can generally mount almost any optic without using a mounting plate. Now trijicon is releasing the RMR HD and RCR got me really interested. But for now I'm going to wait, because we all know once there's a new optic is released and gains huge attention. They're either sold out or on backorder.

@@jollygreen4662 the ergonomics on the pistol is nice. I like it as far. Shooting it is feels like the G17, but feels better in my hands. I did replace my mags with Taran Tactical mag extensions, because they feel more solid than stock ones. Overall it’s a good option with more features than the stock Glock.

I love the look, features and ergonomics of this pistol. I’m going to wait for it to be out for a while and see if any issues arise and if not, this just may replace my Glock 45 as my new duty weapon. Hopefully they release one in FDE like the Hellcat. I carried a first gen M&P for a few years and liked it, but I when I started seeing the triggers fail I went back to Glock. Hopefully this new Echelon is a game changer.

I hope they will sell a 15-round compact frame and 15 round magazines but can use the full-size slide and barrel still. You only need to buy the more compact grip frame and use shorter mags. Use sleeves on the longer mags. That way, we got a Glock 19 grip frame without having to buy a complete slide, barrel, and another optic, but grip frame won’t print on CCW, anymore.

I got my PDP when they were running the optic promotion for the Ameriglo Haven. Wasn't sure if I was actually going to enjoy the gun but I took a chance. It has become a favorite. Full size, 4" barrel, it's a little snappy but nothing crazy. The ergos make it easy to control. Slapped the dot on it, put on some XS co-witness sights, and it's a tack driver. We'll see how long the dot lasts, but for free it's actually decent. If it breaks I'll probably replace it with a Holosun as I've been impressed with my 507k's durability, even after yeeting itself off my Delta's slide one time...operator error LOL

The reason Glock put a lip on the front of the mag instead of the pinch method is so you could use your duty belt or a pocket/belt to strip the mag. You can't do that with the pinch method. We are issued the G17 Gen5 with the cutout on the base of the front of the grip people were complaining "Pinched their pinkies" (Never had an issue with pinching pinkies) for the purpose of stripping mags one handed.
