The Spectacular Spider-Man is an American superhero animated television series produced by Sony Pictures Television based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, and developed by Greg Weisman and Victor Cook. In terms of overall tone and style, the series is based primarily on the Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. era of The Amazing Spider-Man, with a similar balance of action, drama and comedy as well as a high school setting. However, it also tends to blend material from all eras of the comic's run up to that point in addition to other sources such as the Ultimate Spider-Man comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, as well as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film trilogy.

Greg Wiseman who was the co-creator of Spectacular Spider-Man and also created Young Justice has said that if they had moved ahead with a third season they would have introduced Scorpion, Hydro-Man, The Hobgoblin, the return of Edie Brock and the Symbiote, the introduction of Cletus Cassidy and Carnage, a plot line with Dr. Connors trying to cure Electro, expanding on the conflict between Black Cat and Spider-Man, the Osborn family having more development along with Kraven and Calypso, believe it or not even introducing Morbius, exploring the the shared past of Tombstone and Robbie Robertson and further development with Peter and Gwen's relationship. The plan was to have about five seasons in total and then continue with doing animated films said after the show. The ultimate end goal was to end the show with Peter and Mary Jane getting married.

They were gonna have hobgoblin be the main villain of season 3 but also introduce scorpion and have a 2 part episode where Spiderman fights the lizard in Florida and we get a look at what Osborn has been up to. Then season 4 would have had Carnage as the new main villain. Can you imagine how awesome the spectacular Spider-Man’s version of carnage would have been?

I am so glad you finally checked out this masterpiece of a show to me this show is *PEAK Spiderman* to me, and Josh Keaton is probably the voice I hear when I read Spiderman comics with Peter Parker. Despite this show's unjust cancellation, I love how it could still tell two incredible seasons of storytelling and interwoven plots that feel organic and natural. This show has some of the best depictions of almost every Spiderman character and stellar writing to back it up. Flash Thompson is also my favourite character in this show and one of my favourite Spiderman characters. They even made the Goblin reveal a significant surprise due to how well-written and executed the subversion was. I am at least happy we got to see Spectacular Spiderman show up one last time in Across The Spiderverse.

Going from childhood friends to bitter enemies, unlike how they started out as business rivals. Also, I like how Peter's actions as Spider-Man bring out a deep seated resentment that Eddie had for Peter, not only because it cost him his job from the alien symbiote arc, but because he grew up all alone after his and Peter's parents died, while Peter still had Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

Same here, instead of stopping things to focus on a villain/their backstory they set them up and pay it off later for either more emotional impact or to connect with more major villains. Like I love how tombstone and Norman create supervillains in order to distract Spider-Man from the organized crime world but at the same time use it for characters like rhino, sand man and shocker, characters who don’t have major focus in Spider-Man story arcs so having them be thugs turned supervillains by others works (plus for rhino and sandman that still reflects their origins just in a tweaked way so it doesn’t just use them in name only)

In the Raimi movie he's only in high school for the origin bit, but he graduates before he even actually becomes Spider-man. So at the time, it was nice to actually see an adaptation that actually matched Stan Lee's original vision of a teenage superhero.

Steve Blum's voice for the character was great. I really like how the show somehow managed to keep the Goblins identity a secret despite it being common knowledge, and I also really like that the Green Goblin has his own agency in this show, unlike The 90s series or Rami movies where it's a split personality thing.

I love this show. I didn't grow up with it and I only watched it last year, but it's amazing. This version of Peter is amazing, the villains are solid, the side characters are done really well, especially the love interests, who are much more compelling than in some of the movies, and J Jonah Jameson, who's just really funny. The animation is solid and the action is really well done. It's a fantastic adaptation of Spider-Man that captures the energy the character and the world he exists in perfectly. I would've loved to see more of this show.

Ngl, when I was growing up and heard about this show, I didn't want to get into it mainly cause for the the animation style just wasn't the best in my opinion. But when I decided to binge it, boy was this an amazing experience. From the story arcs, to the characters, to the villians, my God was this show everything a Spider-Man was wanted. Personally, I gotta say my favorite villians were definitely Green Goblin and Venom. Also love how they show cased other bad guys who aren't as popular as major threats, like Tombstone and Chameleon. And I heard that if season 3 did happen, Hobgoblin would've been introduced, and while I'm not a huge fan of his character, I would've loved to have seen where they went with him. Honestly the only villian I wasn't a huge fan of was Kraven, which is a shame as he's in my personal top 5 favorites when it comes to Spidey's baddies, I just really didn't like how he became part lion. I mean we already have enough animal themed villians and that transformation is just too much like the Lizard's gimmick. But that's really my only nitpick, everything else about this show was incredible and just like Doug said, I really hope this show makes some kind of comeback in the future.

Story time: when I was a kid, I entered a toy sweepstakes for this show when it began airing on the WB. My mom told me to not get my hopes up too high, as many kids enter those and the ad says "few will win". Fast forward a few weeks, and I get a huge package in the mail, saying I'm a first-prize winner, complete with TONS of awesome Spidey action figures inside! I still have them in a box in my garage, so I can pass them onto my own kids one day.

Spider-Man has always been a character for younger comic readers to relate to, so it makes sense to have him as a teenager. It made sense for him to be a young adult in the video games because the story was more adult.

So agree with you on a lot of what you said, though personally I think the way they handled the villains/crime stuff was really smart. instead of stopping the main story to introduce a new villain/their story, they instead set them up earlier to pay it off later and have them tie into each other but still kept what made said character that character. At the start the first major villains Peter fought were vulture, electrode and lizard who were generally stand alone/unrelated to the main story. But then that gave tombstone, hammerhead (Spider-Man more mob based villains) the idea of creating villains for spidey to fight that would stop him from interfering in organized crime, so they used Norman and doc ock to create rhino, shocker and sand man (rogues who don’t take the focus of major story arcs/are light on villain backstory & motive so having them be regular thugs turned super works well) and finally in turn this act creates doc ock and gives Norman the idea of becoming a villain himself to rule over the criminal world

I love how many of these villains you can understand. Not necessarily sympathetic characters, but ones where you can see where they're coming from, and not just the obvious ones like Eddie and Dr. Conners. Vulture is bitter at his old boss, Doc Ock felt unappreciated, Electro has anger management issues. There's a layer of humanity to these characters that makes them more entertaining to watch while still providing the traditional villain tropes

Man, this was such a good show. I remember watching Spectacuoar Spider-Man back when it was on Disney Channel, and admiring the refreshing changes to the source material. Despite the simplistic designs and relatively cheap animation (Ben Ten: Alien Force and Batman: The Brave and the Bold came out the same time), the highlights made up for the flaws: Exploring Peter's relationship with Eddie, having the Symbiote put a stronger front in trying to remain bonded to Spider-Man, making most of his villains part of an interconnected storyline involving Oscorp experimentation and gang warfare. I'll still have more nostalgiac memories of the '90s series, but I recognize the Spectacular Spider-Man as the superior Spider-Man (no pun intended).

Speaking of the art style, while I can understand someone thinking it’s odd/a bit to cartoony I feel more superhero shows should have art styles like this. I feel too many superhero cartoons feel the need to be hyper realistic which often results in either stiffer animation or feel the need to take away the tights and costumes and just have everything in battle armor (basically removing the theatrics that made superhero’s superhero’s) Shows like spectacular, avengers earth’s mightiest and of course the DCAU take on a more simplified style and I feel that helped them a lot (both in translating designs and making them stand out
