Newton made a small profit and sold, but regretted getting out too early and bought back in near the top (FOMO) and rode the shares down to the bottom. That’s how the South Sea Bubble broke Newton, a man who famously avoided company and didn’t pay much attention to the news.

@@greenthunder7982 Extra Credits History mentioned that the South Sea Company became so large relative to the economy of Great Britain that it would be a $85 trillion company at the same ratio today. To put that in perspective, Apple crossed the $2 trillion mark in 2021 and it's a profitable business, unlike the South Sea Company.

Absolutely love the 5 minute history lessons. Being from Quebec I can appreciate the "screw toi" -cracked me up. Man this was fast though. Really well done all the same.
>10% down, no payments for a year Kind of unrelated, but that quote brought this to mind: I often wonder if the surge over the past two years of "buy now, pay later" platforms is setting up a catastrophic bubble of bad credit. Ie, which companies are recognizing revenue and when? Are retailers recognizing future revenue on the promise of payment from those platforms? Or are those platforms paying retailers in full and using debt to provide credit which could very well default?
@thomasa5619
2 жыл бұрын
Take everything I say with a grain of salt, I believe in australia BNPL takes a few percent cut from the sale, otherwise the retailer is paid in full Interestingly, the contract between the two companies doesn’t allow the retailer to add that fee to the price (on an individual level, like credit card fees), but has to jack up the price for everyone including cash/credit card sales. But the government is looking at legislating that clause out of existence
@TrashwareArt

Retailers attract new customers that would otherwise be priced out. Creditors get new customers without a credit check. What you may consider sub prime credit debt. Figures indicate most pay off bnpl debt in time without incurring fees

@@shazzthedon here in australia, the BNPL providers charge a percentage to the retailer, and the contract doesn’t allow the retailer to pass it on to that customer So EVERYONE has to pay jacked up prices because of it

The Dutch East India Company needs more finance videos than it gets. It was the world's only publicly traded COUNTRY. Owned and run by the Dutch government and managing their extensive overseas empire, and the subject of the world's first short and distort scheme.
Anyone else remember seeing this from Extra Credits / Extra History?
This video is insane, one quick editing thing, idk how you can cut this but a 30 second intro is long for a fast paced video and to keep viewer retention I suggest you cut that in half by adding the part about the past and bubbles to the end. You need to hook the viewer earlier because with these 5 minute videos the viewer wants it cut short and sweet it see the main part of the video
You should do a deep dive on the various arbitrage strategies, while generally reserved for companies, I think it would be really intersting to hear your take.
What program are you using to make the animations for your videos?
Here before this video blows up because it’s going to 😂
