THE SOUNDS OF THE FORESTS IN THE AZORES

We are living in a very busy and noisy world. Finding quietness isn´t always easy but listening to the sounds of nature is essential to our overall wellbeing. Even though I choose to neither show people nor busyness in my videos it doesn´t mean that it is always empty and completely quiet here. in fact recently it has been so busy and noisy here that I have to purposely seek out pockets of quietness by carefully planning when and where I spend my time in nature to avoid both busyness and noisyness.
Noise pollution has always had a big impact on my quality of life and since natural silence seems to be on the verge of extinction worldwide I would like to remind all of us how important natural silence is and how much it can feed our soul. The world needs more quietness and all it takes is a moment and the intention to really listen.
I hope you enjoyed. Thank you for being here!

A forest is a special place. Quiet and peaceful. I let my imagination be my guide. You can come up with thousands of paintings and short stories just by spending time there. Helga is recovering nicely and soon we will be going on walks. She is a good dog and she loves everyone. She has a steel and iron hip replacement which can add years to her life. Rottweilers have usually seven to ten years of life. Seeing animals in the forest makes it special. That is what life is all about.

What a sensitive video and text. Yes, you are right, silence is not noise. I have also noticed that when sailing at night. Also the light immissions are gone on the open Atlantic and you see the firnament in all its tremendous purity. Simply sensual and beautiful. But - like you - you have to have ears and eyes for that.

Thank you very much, Thomas, for appreciating the sensitivity of my video and my text. I'm glad you can relate to the magical experience of being surrounded by natural silence. I can imagine that being at night alone out on the ocean is by far one of the most incredible ways to experience nature in its most quiet purity. Thank you for sharing. I'm very happy for you!

Japanese doctors in big cities can prescribe , "shinrin roku', or forest bath for patients stressed out by city life. It is approved and honored....gotta love that. In a big picture mode, one can relax from the day, also get 'spa relaxed' with massage and rest, and one can get meditatively relaxed.... How deep one must go to ease existential angst ? hmmmmm, i suspect it begins in nature and silence.... matt bard

Thank you for sharing. I didn't know that forestbathing is being prescribed by japanese doctors. I love that but at the same time it makes me sad that people are so detached from nature that they need to get it prescribed in order to seek it out.

While reading 'Thus Spoke the Plants' ( Monica Gagliano ) your video completed here words instantly..:-) In our anthropomorphic standpoint we listen to the soothing sound of Nature, the grounding to where my senses Originate.. But what if we were aware of the fact jet proven: all plants listening to us when we are there? Surprised at first, the imagined separation falls away.. No wonder we feel Home. :-) Good camera work, with the right pointer for us! 💚

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your viewpoint, Thomas. It always makes me think. I definitely wouldn't exclude the possibility that plants might be more aware of their surroundings than we assume. We definitely shouldn't make the mistake of underestimating the abilities of nature and thinking of us humans as superior.

Beautiful, I think you belong in the wild nature. I miss that wild, where nothing can stop me. Before, when I lived in Norway, I could go live in a cabin upon the mountain as long I wanted, did only bought what I needed, and fished in lakes. Ore I could go with the boat I got together with the house rent, go to Islands and camp, either in a tent, ore in the cabin of the boat. Here I am now it's impossible. If I had afford to buy a sailboat I would have gone.

Hello Rahel, having seen other videos of Pico, I know now that it is in fact a very busy island, especially in the summertime. Thank you for finding places at times when no one else is there to share the beauty of your island with us. Again, this reminds me of my holiday on an island in Florida. I would go there off season and wake up early in the morning, just to capture the peace and solitude of nature. Interestingly enough, whether here in Azores or back in Germany, you always seem to be drawn to water, all kinds of water. Hugs, Eve

Hello Eve, thank you for your appreciation. You are absolutely right, I feel very much drawn to water doesn't matter where I am. Bodies of water have a very special effect on a place, I think. In this video though it was even more special because we do not have waterfalls, rivers, creeks or streams here on Pico unless it has been raining a ton in very short period of time. So it always feels like Christmas when I get to see water rushing down from the hills and in between the rocks😊

wonderful. maybe your best yet, xx I remember, as a child I would often go to a place overlooking the sea, and lie in the heather, just out of the wind, listening to the sounds of the world [what we would call 'ambient' these days]. I still try and have 'quiet days' even now.
