    Sounds like a water drop in a moviescene where the person that the camera is following is dying or fainting and the sound of the drop gets all distorted.

    I havnt heard that sound since i was a young kid. We used to dare eachother. Which one of us had the guts to cross a new frozen river near were i lived. It was crazy, looking back on it. Lol!

    Heard this eery sound once or twice at Lac Gauvreau in very cold snowless Decembers . Our fun was to bounce rocks on the ice to hear the reverberation.

    I've skated ice like that; safe(ish) for one skater only. Don't stop or you might fall through. The skates are etching the ice like a glass cutting tool.

    If we have about 5 cm of ice in the Netherlands the whole country goes skating ! Normally 5 cm should be really strong but I guess this is not a closed body of water like a lake. So under the ice there is still water moving.

    I've always wanted to skate a long distance out in the open like that, instead of just on an ice rink. Sort of like the difference between running on a track, and out on a trail.

    You have to keep a steady momentum on ice like that or... splash. That’s why he took the poles with him. If you break thru you use the poles to get back up

    Henrik Trygg well i understand his concerns. It isnt that obvious For Europeans.. its barley under -5 degrees and thats mostly for just a max of 10 h here. Every pond would crack immediately

    It's not cracking all the way through, at least not in a way that can make holes. You can go back over the cracks again and again and nothing more happens. It's sort of a settling of the ice with a little weight on top.

    Nice, this happen when the ice is a bit stronger than 4 cm but not 6cm. All ice skaters know this.

    Подтверждаю. Тонкий лёд издаёт именно такой звук. Правда я не на коньках ходил, а пешком, но и лёд тоньше был. По Азовскому морю. Идёшь, лёд гнётся, впереди волна. Прикольно. Риска никакого, потому что глубина по пояс и течения нет.
