The sound of ice
This is how 45mm new black ice sounds like. Don't forget to put on the sound.
Recorded on Lissma Kvarnsjö outside Stockholm the 5th of December.

If you slide fast enough the ice would not break

No way I'd go out when it's that thin ,it's cool though .If I heard the cracking I'd panic a little .
2:35 - see the ice bending....wow, great video
It's funny how great overhead shots are just taken for granted these days, great video.
needs 10 hours of the black ice sounds. I feel...drifted...to sleep...
"Black Ice" sounds like a great band name.

Sounds like a refreshing adult beverage
Shit I thought I accidentally started a Star Wars movie in background.
The most magical sound...the edges on the ice, I would LOOOVE to skate here...Thanks for this gift!!!
sounds like the fish are having a laser gun war
I was playing pond hockey today and though an alien spaceship was shooting at us, but it was actually the ice vibrating under us
I grew up across the street from a lake, this sound used to freak me out
For a quick moment, I was skating with you guys ^^ Footage on point + great sound 10/10
2:30 you can see the ice bending like a tarp... crazy
What do the fish think of this

this is making me anxious.
It is so refreshing to watch a video like this one. Great footage!
I mean, super brave guy and all, sure. But imagine being the guy with the camera, who has to do the same thing, directly behind the guy who just cracked the ice, while focusing on filming it.
Interesting.............he skates forward, but can only walk backwards!
Magically
You are very brave and this is a fantastic video but man surely that is the same sound an ice cube makes when dropped in a drink and that's the ONLY one I want to experience first hand. Tx for posting this though very good indeed.
Beautiful. Takes some balls..
Sounds like a water drop in a moviescene where the person that the camera is following is dying or fainting and the sound of the drop gets all distorted.
I havnt heard that sound since i was a young kid. We used to dare eachother. Which one of us had the guts to cross a new frozen river near were i lived. It was crazy, looking back on it. Lol!
Hans disappeared shortly after making this video.
i would always throw rocks, id get to hear more of it, being further away, and also wouldnt risk dying a frigid death
You have to skate fast before the ice changes its mind.
Took a big risk riding on that thin ice.

Goddamit, what a video !!! Ethereal.. it's like a great audio-visual odyssey. WOW.....
Sounds the same as railway lines when they are hit
What an incredible video, very clever Henrik , we visited Stockholm at Christmas and fell in love with your incredible scenery there. Will hopefully return one day soon, wishing you a Happy New Year too, keep up the skating.

angela berwick thanks. Hope you get more winter next time. Its awful grey winter here now
Sampling these sounds . . . Here to tell you that the audio quality is great. Good work
I remember first time hearing this. I was scared af😂
Excellent footage! Thanks for sharing. In my experience, skater doesn't hear much of that amazing soundscape.

True, I meant while skating you can't hear much of it yourself. Unless there's a cliff that reflects the sound back to you. For reference, here's my old phone camera take on 3-2 cm ice: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHWs0atuZLS1qLg.html

Marko E. Takanen exactly and then you need the speed to get the ice singing. I will buy a proper mic to capture it better. 👍🏻

would like to buy the soundtrack/album if you publish a good quality recording (on bandcamp?) question: where did you place the recorder? Great sound. thanks for putting this on!
Heard this eery sound once or twice at Lac Gauvreau in very cold snowless Decembers . Our fun was to bounce rocks on the ice to hear the reverberation.
Sounds like an alien ray gun battle going on
I'll never forget the first time I tossed a rock over ice... it sounded like that.
Ледяные яйца. Я аж холодным потом покрылся от трескающегося звука.
Beautiful Sound of Nature.
Sounds like when they were playing those disc games in the original TRON.
Underbar film. Och vilka härliga isljud!
I've skated ice like that; safe(ish) for one skater only. Don't stop or you might fall through. The skates are etching the ice like a glass cutting tool.
If we have about 5 cm of ice in the Netherlands the whole country goes skating ! Normally 5 cm should be really strong but I guess this is not a closed body of water like a lake. So under the ice there is still water moving.
so relaxing... Thanks
I've always wanted to skate a long distance out in the open like that, instead of just on an ice rink. Sort of like the difference between running on a track, and out on a trail.
Amazing video!! I like this sound!
Ultimate explorer, exploring.
i have never seen anything like this
Looks like so much fun.
Envy envy envy :) Great video, wild sounds :)
So that’s what that sound was from the ice lake in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Brilliant video!!!
I would really like to have skates like this.
Love it! Issmällar är naturens supersång!
Excellent !
Reminds me of growing up in the Kootenays. Beautiful and treacherous, had a few close calls, but damn that ice is thin.
When I skate I go looking for this noise (it happens with thicker ice too). I call it “hunting for baby crocodiles”.
literally speechless
great, I never heard something like this
This is my new ASMR jam
You have to keep a steady momentum on ice like that or... splash. That’s why he took the poles with him. If you break thru you use the poles to get back up
,,He'' is cold as ice🎵🎵🎵
thats pretty dangerous once it break and you fall in you cant get out it will keep breaking
Great video!
Stockholm! What a great ice, i understand your big grins =)

That's kinda cool, great video, something different
That ice looked so thin, how did it hold his weight so easily when a little jabbing broke it
I love how mathematicians can stretch physics and pretty much break physics its great
Jag älskar det här! Jag saknar Sverige. Bor sedan 27 år sedan I Australien. Nu har jag en Surfski och älskar vara ut på vattnet i vågorna
Funny how the name of the uploader is, Henrik Trygg (Henrik Safe) You could clearly see the ice move when he slid past the camera.
So...why would you skate on ice as it's breaking behind you again?
@henriktrygg

Isn´t that obvious:-) The ice is safe and easy to read even though it cracks..

Henrik Trygg well i understand his concerns. It isnt that obvious For Europeans.. its barley under -5 degrees and thats mostly for just a max of 10 h here. Every pond would crack immediately

Frank Andrusiewicz for the sounds, obviously

It's not cracking all the way through, at least not in a way that can make holes. You can go back over the cracks again and again and nothing more happens. It's sort of a settling of the ice with a little weight on top.

"Europeans".... the big differences in climate in Europe seems to elude you, my friend.
Hello icy, my old friend I've come to skate on you again...
let's skate and then measure the ice thickness
Now I also heard after we were done skating as well
Now that would be an Awesome experience.
uuuhhh... i'm sampling this... lol. I'll happily give y'all credit.
That's so great.
Nice, this happen when the ice is a bit stronger than 4 cm but not 6cm. All ice skaters know this.
pretty darned smooth for river ice IMO. but how cool are the clamp-on skates? looks like they have bindings like skis.
Extremely Cool
2:30 !!!!!
45mm.... That looks more like 4-5 inches, which makes more sense.
La Naturaleza no deja sorprendernos. Que maravilloso.
who were the 66 people without souls that didn't like this?
Lol I just skipped rocks on ice sheets on the South Platte River today, to recorded some of it too
Noticed you have break away blades.
И за ним оглушённая рыба всплывает)))
Super cool! That'd be awesome to experience.
sounds great... doesn't look safe
menace sound
Too thin for me! Awesome video.
2:30 if 45 mm will bend like that I'll only do this shit with at least double the width.
Nice one Marten
I hear a very similar sound coming from the rails-I suppose- just when the train approaches a subway station.
Cool !!! Really amazing, what a great Idea ❄❄❄ Greetings from Corviniana / Germany 💖
Хорошая операторская работа.
Phenomenal
Very nice but what a shame, no hockey stick or puck?. That looks like some premium high speed stick handling ice.
Real big balls my friend lol
