The Sound Couple - It's all about the Hill!
Музыка
The Sound Couple is back again for an annual showcase gig that we always look forward to.....The intimate backyard concert! The one thing we don't look forward to is the hill that is between the van and the stage!
It's really nice for us to change things up and work with indie bands and work a multi-act event. We share our ideas on how to manage multiple groups and changeovers and hope the insights are helpful to you!
The Sound Couple primarily use PreSonus gear featuring:
PreSonus UC Surface
PreSonus CDL12
PreSonus CDL18s
PreSonus 32R
PreSonus SW5E
PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
PreSonus AVB-D16
Please see our "About" for a more comprehensive list of gear we use.

Wow! What a great video of a truly unique gig. Thanks for letting the video roll throughout this gig. There were so many learning opportunities. I particularly appreciate you allowing us to see the tuning of the monitors to avoid feedback. Also, watching the details involved in three sound checks and the use of saved scenes was particularly informative. It was fun to see family members help with the load in and load out. I enjoyed their commentary on Uncle Bart vs. Soundman Bart. The Sound Couple's videos are making a significant contribution to those who want to learn this important skill. Thanks for posting yet another top notch video.

LOL! Thank you! We had fun with this one, but you are making us nervous that we are setting the bar too high for ourselves. Really appreciate the recognition, but the video production will vary with each gig as well as the time. For example, the next one we are working on is a more basic information filled video with a humorous sub plot. What's really fun is we don't do much for planning so it's interesting to see how they can take a life of their own!

Love watching your videos. Learn a lot from it.whats your plan B if its raining in the middle of the show?do you cover your speakers?
@thesoundcouple
Жыл бұрын
Our approach to rain can vary depending on the gig. We plan ahead as much as possible starting with advocating for a covered stage. We have had some gigs cancelled this year because of rain because there was not adequate coverage and there was not even an attempt to do the gig. It's a bummer to lose a gig, but it's better than dealing with a bunch of rain. If we are there, we bring our tarps and Undercover's and do our best to make sure we are continuously monitoring and will make the call to shut down if we need to.
Do you have videos of your old set ups? I’d love to see how you guys started! I’m trying to get started and you guy’s totally inspire me!

Hi Paolo - Thanks for asking. We will look into this again as we were asked about Spanish as well. To be honest, it seemed like it wasn't as easy as we hoped since so there are so many languages available. We will look again but it is surprising that KZread is unable to accommodate the viewer more than making the content provider select which languages they support. KZread subtitles English automatically, so you would think they could scale that technology to other languages as well and accommodate the viewer per the language they prefer.

Bart, Stacy, thank you again for the videos! I learn so much from watching you do your shows. I do small sound support as well using the PreSonus 32r. I have my original SL16.4.2 (series 1) and SL32.4.2AI ( series 2) as backups. My question today is focused on your saving Projects/Scenes and the filtering strategy. Does the saving of a project and scene actually save the entire inventory of parameters and the recall filter is used to bring back a selection, depending on the filter setting, into the mixer? And does the filter settings get memorized as well? Finally, if the filter selection is blue, it gets recalled, if not blue, the parameters does not get updated? Thank you Sound Couple! Love you guys!!!
@thesoundcouple
Жыл бұрын
The combination of the project/scenes control/save all parameters of the mix and supporting elements. The filter settings I believe act independently of the project/scene...if it's blue, it gets recalled. For a one band project/scene, typically, you would not use a filter as you want it all recalled.

You guys are my great mentor. How do you know the sound volume limit when doing a house (backyard) concert? Do we have to worry about getting a permit?
@thesoundcouple
Жыл бұрын
Great question! We consider the type of music, the audience and the location. You take those factors and you make a decision. Obviously, the louder the bands stage volume, the less control you have. Sometimes I have been wrong on both sides of it where I could have been louder or I should of mixed softer. In this situation, the host of the event trusts us and likes the job we do (I could elaborate). Sound ordinances begin at 10:00pm and all of the neighbors attend so it not an issue. It will never be an issue for us as we would defer to the home owner if there were complaints.

When you're ringing out the monitors, is there a way of copying the EQ settings from one to another as I'd imagine that, in a given space, that many of the ringing tones and such would be broadly similar ... or do you prefer to start from a fully flat EQ each time?
@thesoundcouple
