The Sound Couple - Gigs are short...Live Now!

Музыка

The Sound Couple heads out to another corporate event on a very hot and sunny day!
What is it with us and electricity? There was a snafu with our power supply but we execute our plan and we are ready for it...The lack of power availability when we need it is not going to slow us down!
With the power issue resolved...the gig transformed into a great party and we demonstrate how great bands are able to that!
The making of this video weighed heavily on our hearts as we have since lost our dear friend Charles.....we dedicate this video in his memory and serves as a reminder to us all that the gigs are short....don't forget to find the joy in each one!
The Sound Couple primarily use PreSonus gear featuring:
PreSonus UC Surface
PreSonus CDL12
PreSonus CDL18s
PreSonus 32R
PreSonus SW5E
PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
PreSonus AVB-D16
Please see our "About" for a more comprehensive list of gear we use.

Hi couple. Great video. With my MIDAS and the Behringer P16 personal monitors I also try to get each musician, except the vocals, to do their own monitoring. But in the end I end up helping them with their personal monitoring. So I have mixed feelings about that system. Very good band, another week more. A pleasure to follow you. All the best!.

We had lots to learn from this video, as we watched The Sound Couple deal with power issues and the other challenges of this type of outdoor gig. The Pecron again proved its great value at a gig. Great job as always Bart & Stacy! things like power are rough, but really appreciated that you rolled with it - and waited for the electrician to fix the issue... How often are you providing sound for the same venues and bands, and do you save show scenes as well as channel presets? I see a lot of the same bands - or do you prefer to start with a zeroed out board each time and build the mix from there? On the drummer IEM - thinking that part of the sound person's role is having those extra things that otherwise can stop a show dead in its tracks - like soundbuds, extra 9v for pedals - or even a strap, strings and guitar cable... takes up little room, but when a band doesn't have those little things... Can't wait for more! Learning - and spent the weekend organizing my gear in the garage and getting ready to sell a rolling rack case I haven't used in 7 years - the tubs are where it's at!

For most shows, we usually start from scratch with our base project/scene and channel presets. If there a just a couple of tweaks, like a sub player, or one less player, I will just modify an existing scene. Good luck with your gigs!

Hello Bart. I noticed the oil pressure on your van seems to be a bit low. There's is a sensor under the inside doghouse inside the van that it gets clogged and will kill your engine if not taking care of it on time. Also check the oil pick up tube inside oil pan. These chevy vans are notorious for these symptoms. But if taking good care they run for up to 500,000 miles.

Thanks! We use PreSonus Series III mixers for our gigs....but I have mixed on many consoles. Point being is that the gear is only a part of equation. In my early days, I think what helped me was that I mixed on many sub par systems which taught me how to squeeze the most out of whatever I had to work on. This makes any modern system feel so much easier.

Great question! The primary reason why we stack the subs is to support the mains up on the air on a sturdy base. Hey Bart. I just watched your ringing out the monitor for feedback video. My question is... As a wedding DJ predominantly. Which eq should I use to help to prevent feedback. I have a Midas MR 18 digital mixer, so I have PEQ and GEQ. I use two mics. One for me and the other for guest speeches. I'm struggling because a lot of the reading I'm doing says you sometimes need to shape the vocal on the mic. I can't do that, if I'm using the PEQ cutting for feedback. On the other hand if I use a GEQ then I'm changing my FOH tonality...

  • @thesoundcouple

    @thesoundcouple

    Ай бұрын

The typical approach is that the GEQ is used for shaping the system to the room and the channel PEQ is for shaping the source. I do find myself using the GEQ to make the changes needed to support the system with people with poor mic technique but not enough to really change the overall system that noticeably. Depending on the situation, you may also need to apply some coaching on where people can stand and how they should use the mic...not always possible but if you are getting feedback because they are standing too close the speaker, there is not much you can do about that.

We use a NowSonic Stage Router Pro, which we believe has now been acquired by Waves (Waves Stage Router).
