The soprano sax can sound intense and vicious

Eric Marienthal shredding like there is no tomorrow on his soprano saxophone with Chick Corea's Elektric Band II. This is from a live concert in Warsaw, Poland 1994. The tune is called "Tumba Island". Incredible intensity building from Eric and the whole band. Here is the link to the original concert (solo around 10:20 in) • Chick Corea Elektric B...

I've always had a special love for Eric Marienthals soprano sound concept. Incredible tension building by the whole band supporting Eric's amazing shred fest. And that part at 1:56 and 2:07 really sound a bit like you'd be listening at 1.25 speed 😂 Like when somebody's losing his mind, but then, controlled. Let me know if you dig, this might not be for everybody, I get that. If you like what we do and/or want to improve as saxophonist, check out some lesson material that can help you on your jazz journey here: www.sharpelevenmusic.com/saxophone /Jorre

This is amazing, thanks. Eric is the consummate musician but I don’t think I ever heard him play with this wild abandon once his GRP records started coming out. He is an incredible player but after the electric band, he plays much more calculated rather than raw like this.

This live performance with this band lineup of Tumba Island has always been spectacular ear candy to me! It's incredible! ❤ Soo cool to see Eric's solo transcribed!

To be fair, late trane on sorpano makes this sound like Smooth jazz (check out any live take of My Favorite Things past 1965-- the Olatunji Concert is particularly astonishing, with the distortion at times making him sound like an electric guitar)

I always wondered which sax played the sop solo on Gordon Goodwin's Mueva Los Huesos.. can tell by just listening to this it was Eric. His sound and style is too recognisable
