On paper, Sony’s ZV-E10 II might look like a fairly minor upgrade over the original. However, nearly all of our issues with the ZV-E10 have been addressed with this new model. Is the best choice for a $1,000 camera for content creators? Chris Niccolls and Jordan Drake have done some testing, and have the answers.

@@alen2937 Just look up 10,000 nits Sony CES 2018. They do make the best displays on the market, all reference monitors for color work in the high end is filled with Sony mastering displays. The only thing that comes remotely close is things locked away in R&D labs of Dolby, or Flanders. So yes, Sony does make the best displays if we're talking money-is-no-object. Consumer displays of course are currently ruled by LG/Samsung just because they're the only consumer OLED producer of note. And as for @gamebuster800 There are multiple excuses for unusable screens in sunlight. Battery life, heat, and costs. Overpowering the sun is something dedicated monitoring displays in the field have trouble doing. You're not getting in consumer cameras, especially not on something ~$1000 hybrid camera. Please think a bit more folks, there are bad choices, there are malicious choices, and there are financial choices. It can be a mix of all three, and not just something done to irk consumers, otherwise there would be at least one company willing to cater to demand (if film still lives, you can believe usable displays during high noon on cameras would be something companies would love to offer if it made sense).

$400 cheaper than a6700, but we're losing IBIS, EVF, mechanical shutter, more stable autofocus and 4K@120. Honestly not sure if $400 is quite enough to justify all that (for general photography on a budget). For $900 it would be more convincing. Also - you didn't even cover ports selection? And TALLY LAMP? What happened to you? Edit: just watched couple of other videos and oh god, this is the most "first quick look" of all first quick looks, I expected more from you. To anyone interested in MUCH more detail I'd recommend Mark Bennet's comprehensive review, it makes this camera make much more sense. And Gerald's for overheating tests.

I have the original EV-10 and the thing is a glorified point & shoot camera. It's OK as long as we don't plan on using it in any lighting situation that would require us to take control. Setting up the MRs for your most often used settings is an excellent idea, but be aware that it saves these settings to the SD card, so if we change cards or format them, bye bye MR settings. Chris and Jordan did not mention if this had been dealt with in the version II camera, so beware. The camera is designed for phone users looking to step up without having to learn anything about photography/videography. For that market segment it is great. For anyone who knows what they are doing, this camera will drive you nuts, new menu or old. If you're wondering what happened to mine, I relegated it to a simple job that it doesn't screw up and one that I can set up an MR to manage the job. For anyone who is a real photographer/vidoegrapher looking for a real hybrid camera that can vlog as well, pay the extra and get the Fujifilm X-S20.

Good review. Overall I'm disappointed, because I was expecting it to retain the 4k120 to remain competitive with phones, but have lack of IBIS be the gimp that drives people to the A6700. Between artificially removing the 4k120 and removing the shutter so it's useless as a photo camera...yeah. No. Not for 1k when a used S5II is 1200 and has a shutter. And especially not with the weight gain. The ZV-E10 was the smallest and lightest APS-C body you could get from Sony since the NEX lineup, with the kit lens it's doable in a pocket. This gained .3" thickness and an ounce of weight. That's a big jump. I really hope they update the ZV-1 so people with "real" cameras can have something nicer than a phone that's still convenient to carry everywhere, because clearly they don't want the E10 to fill that role anymore.

Years ago, when my son needed a good camera for school and personal video projects and I was in between DSLR cameras, waiting for an affordable 4K/60p solution, we settled for the then newly released A6500. I knew its limits and that I wouldn’t get happy with it, but I didn’t know how bad this thing is with recording video longer than 20 minutes. Practically absolutely useless for me. By now, I’ve been able to make myself very happy with an A7M4 and an A7R5 while the A6500 gets zero use. I am wondering now if it would be a very meaningful upgrade (especially in the video department) to sell the A6500 and get the ZV-E10 II as a dedicated backup camera and third option for tripod based video recordings of events? Is there anything at all that I would be missing from the A6500? Thanks for the first look video, very well done as always, guys!!

This new camera brings great savings; don't buy it and save 1,000 USD. After Fuji X1000VI, Leica D-lux and Lumix S9, we thought that the lack of innovative ideas was the norm, but we were wrong. Now Sony raised the bar to its limit by not listening to the user needs and bringing a "new" camera without mechanical shutter, dark display, no IBIS, no 4k120 and no EVF. And the cherry on the top: more expensive than its predecessor and with weak electronic stabilizing solution that demands high cropping. Where can I buy one?

I was waiting to see what this camera was like, but I think I'll keep the 6100 for the great work horse it is and pick up an old BlackMagic OG to scratch that colour grading itch.
