I found a whole sheet of Donald Ducks, but I was too young and wussy to eat or sell it and turned it in to the school. They were all over the place like people had scattered them on the ground near elementary schools on purpose, usually in singles instead of sheets. Ah, the days when this town was all about LSD and cocaine instead of fentanyl. Then the mine closed.

The stupid part of this "anti-drug psa" is that it wasn't even the characters that were taking drugs willingly that got punished for it. It was the ones that did it on accident that got seriously hurt. Like what kind of message does that send? Cause my takeaway is don't eat street food, not don't do drugs.

There is an issue of New Teen Titans, where Starfire flies into a rage and tries to kill a man for selling drugs. Like, she tries to obliterate him and is physically restrained by Cyborg as she goes on a psychotic rant about how the people of Earth are barbaric lunatics who actively sell each other poison to ingest and lectures us about how terrible drugs are, while still flinging starbolts at the drug dealer.

fun fact! It's generally agreed that it's basically impossible to fatally overdose on LSD barring certain pre-existing conditions, so not only did Mello and the sonic rugrats die of LSD, they were among the first if not the very first people ever to do so! :)

The closest thing to an LSD overdose was a group that mistoke it in its raw powdered form for cocaine, snorted thousands of times the necessary amount, and ended up in a comatose state. Something that will never happen with normal recreational use.

@Sebastian Camarena What is that high dose exactly? If someone is consuming hundreds of dollars worth of LSD in a single go, that's on them. The real risk is people with underlying mental conditions, such as Schizophrenia, exasperating them in rare cases. A positive is that it has also been shown to help people with depression so who knows. Shame the government made it illegal in the 70s, making further research difficult.

Of course he didn’t just die from using drugs. He died from *“drug-laced chili dog sauce”* Wat.

Loved The Metal Virus Arc Personally, It Has A Few Issues But Goddamn It It Hard For Me And A Lot Of People I Know who Read it. I Hated The Way Shadow Was Done Though That Was Due to SEGA Bein' A Dumbass Again.

My reaction when I saw this video title in my feed: "Excuse me? *What?!?"*

I loved these comics as a kid. It was like a really Tommy Wiseauian Sonic Soap Opera. It was filled with that shit, but I was compelled to read more.

Why were the chili dogs being laced with LSD? I imagine better money could be made selling it as is.

I personally liked the fact that it was an episode from the "Fox Kids" era of Batman; the character designs and models were better than the "efficient, streamlined look" of the "Kids WB" episodes. That's why, when I watch the 4th season, I try picturing in my mind what the episodes would look like in Fox Kids form.

I never liked drugs and I'm still against them but God, all these anti-drugs PSAs have always made me cringe really hard. Also it pissed me off that American cartoon were so family-friendly that nobody died from fights with guns and weapons (even at war-themed media like G.I.Joe) and generally they werent allowed to show people's deaths but SOMEHOW they made an exception in anti-drugs PSA episodes.

I think sonic is the weirdest thing that ever happened. Certainly there are stories that are weirder but what really stands out is that sonic is such a big franchise and still, somehow, everything is connected. The nearly surreal combination of the games/series and the comic is truly unique. I still can't grasp it all. How was the comic allowed to be so... weird sometimes? Every video I watch about this topic feels like a fever dream

The highest dose of LSD ever administered was roughly 40 grams of crystal LSD, as the man who ingested it mistook it for cocaine. For reference, the average dose of LSD is 100 micro-grams. Meaning the man ingested roughly 40,000 doses at once. He was in comatose for 2 days and needed several years of therapy to live a normal life. Still didn't die though.

I knew it was a Ken Penders' work of "art" as soon as I saw the artstyle and the writting. The edgyness of his work would make even Shadow the Hedgehog blush.

To now know that a character in Sonic overdosed on lsd makes me weirdly happy inside. It's so strangely absurd its hilarious.

I still cannot understand one thing. Is Espio's horn a nose or is it just a forehead horn? Because in comics his horn is on his forehead, and i feel uncomfortable because of that.

The Archie Sonic line of comics had all kinds of shout-outs and easter eggs. Rotor had a Minature Tie Fighter in his workshop in one issue and in another issue, you could see a Virtual-On and Bugs Calander in two different panels. Looking for those details were a fun part of the comics.

Twas great. Absolute sin what happened to the Archie Sonic comics and Sega's "can't do" guidelines that got forced on them later in life.

Personally I liked all the mellow drama of the comics as long as sonic still did his thing and ran. It was like reading the CW flash but sonic as the flash. Some of it was pretty compelling part of the whole reason I came back to read each issue. I think sonic does well with drama by this point and it was good that Archie sonic didn't shy away with it.

This is more unintentional comedy, though.

That's a good way of telling kids to stay away from the drugs - through their favorite Sonic comic. On other hand, Ken Penders' writing and artstyle makes you want to stay away from the comic and start doing drugs to forget it, so i'm not sure what they were going for here.

IKR? This has to be one of the messed up things Penders ever did for the Sonic comics alongside the rejected pitch of having Sally lose her virginity to Geoffrey.

I wasn't sure why this didn't ring a bell until I saw julie-sue lol. It was around the point she was introduced that I lost all faith in the comic series

As a Sonic fan, I never read these stories in my childhood and even when I discovered the Archie Sonic Comics at the time, I thought it was strange given all the different characters and continuity that I was not familiar with since I was more familiar with the games’ continuity and hell, even Sonic X’s continuity. But the comics felt like an entirely different and bizarre reality to take in for my child Sonic Fan self. But yeah, there’s no denying that these comics definitely inspired the weird parts of the Sonic Fanbase like how SATAM did.

in a later story in issue 166 written by romy chacon, mighty just nonchalantly referenced the time when they were tripping out from eating these drugged chili dogs, while eating a chili dog. why this and the rat was brought back in the post-penders era, i dont know

man I remember this arc because it was the first time I'd ever gotten into collection a comic series as a kid.

Originally, "Knuckles' Chaotix" was first called "Sonic Stadium"; Mighty was supposed to be Sonic, and Tails would've been playable. Unfortunately, the Tails player object got corrupted; you can tell it's Tails by how it acts, and that it shares "Mighty's" palette. THAT'S where "Wechnia" came from...

@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte Well not character and personality wise at all since the point of giving Knuckles his own comic was to create new characters and experiences for him to deal with which the earlier books did well... honestly outside of the Nazi campaign arc and the final arc with Monk the rest of Knuckles comic run was actually really solid for the most part character and story wise. Not to mention if someone's related to a character but different in a franchise where you didn't create the original character you wouldn't just call them wierd knock off OC. I mean do people call the Bad Batch that in Star Wars? No so same applies here.
