The Songbook: Cave In

In the latest episode of "The Songbook", Steve Brodsky and Adam McGrath from Cave In sit down for a stunning play through of "Shake My Blood" off the band's latest album "Final Transmission." A deeply personal record, it was completed after the tragic death of Cave In's founding bassist Caleb Scofield.
"The song 'Shake My Blood' was my first opportunity to express what I was feeling about the whole situation," Brodsky explained at the time of the album's release. "It's a mix of extreme grief, frustration and anger. I was trying to do something to gain the clearest answer about whatever the next move might be.
Of their appearance on "The Songbook," Brodsky and McGrath offer in a joint statement: "It was very cool of Gibson to have us perform an acoustic version of a Cave In song. We even snuck in part of a Joe Walsh song that day, jamming fireside in a canyon in Los Angeles last fall. As fans of sixties and seventies California folk/country/psych, the location and vibe was right up our alley."

Not in a thousand years would I have believed they wrote most of their songs on acoustic guitars until seeing this video. These three men are god-tier musicians and always will be. Masters of the craft who set the standard for what a rock band SHOULD be
Can we get an entire album of these 2 doing just this? Sounds are fantastic.

Same for me, regarding Helmet and drop-D... Then bands like Hum would play with a lot of drop-D tuning. Nostalgic mention: In Lawerence KS, a venue named the Outhouse, I attended a Helmet show and Quicksand was the opening band. Total treat.

I was never able to see Cave In but I saw Stephen live w/ Mutoid Man. Dude friggin' rips on guitar. I knew he was good but it totally blew me away. Those guys are great live, crazy talented 3-piece.
Watching a gorgeous reserved performance like this, you’d genuinely have no idea these guys have written and still continue to write some of the most brutal, rotten riffs out there. The new record gets to comical levels of heaviness...
