Exactly my thoughts too. People see pictures in magazines of a highly edited and polished NASA Orbiter or Hubble Telescope image of Planets and think that’s what they’ll see with their Telescope!? Lol. This video is the best most real life accurate representation of what you ACTUALLY SEE through a Telescope. 👌

Just received my 6" reflector, and this really makes me optimistic about taking images of the planets, etc. The first thing I looked at was the Orion nebula with my 23mm eyepiece, and was very happy with it. I then put my 2x Barlow in the optics trian, and was just overjoyed with what I was seeing.

About 120x , it just didnt work . I sold it . Looking back now with Astrophotography in mind i see that i used it improper . I shouldn't push it with magnification , and i should have flocked the tube , removed protruding focuser , shortened it , and removed clips holding the mirror cell or at least cover it and same for secundary mirror . To make a clean Light path and use it with DSLR not for visual . And with those modification it would have been Fine for imagining of DSO. Not as good as this 8 inch , but good enough for DSO. Im drawn to Maksutov design my self, because of its small central obstruction , giving high contrast images . Things like that . So ill probably in future get an 8 inch F4 newtonian , and some Catadioptric for Moon planets and smaller DSOs. No need to rush it i still have lots to image with 80ED , and 72mm F4,5 refractor . The Venus stacked image is amazing. It shows what an 8" might be capable of, looking toward the sun. Imaging using a 5x Barlow might be a challenge for a crisp view, but why not try? @@eMBO_Gaming, we had a nice couple of evenings this past week, and I brought it out to view some of the winter favorite DSOs, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and dim Saturn. In the meantime, I had bought a used little Celestron FirstScope for breaks in cloudy nights and dashing out. I wanted to experiment with the little 76mm scope, and have the XT8 out as well, for "better" viewing. With better than supplied eyepieces, the little scope will do what I want it to as a small, portable unit, and I actually used the 8" as a spotter scope most of the viewings!! (using the red dot on the 8 to start of course). ...I got the XT8 on craigslist, used once and still in it's original box, for $325. Keep an eye out for used scopes if you get the chance. @leemyersastronomy1867
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I used the 5x Barlow with the smartphone setup to increase image scale as it was eyepiece projection. For Jupiter using the ZWO 120MC and 5x Barlow with the 6” F5 Newtonian at F25 it was a little over sampled but not too much of an issue. If I used it with the 8” F5.9 it would have put things at F30ish which would have severely dimmed the planet and reduced the frame rate (Especially for Uranus and Neptune). To put it in context Uranus was running at approximately 10 frames per second during capture. If I used the 5x I would have needed to increase exposure at the longer focal length, further reducing the frame rate making it very difficult to focus.
Very nice work! what camera?
Very interesting mix of photographic images obtained for the sun and the planets of our solar system. Congratulations for the instruments and accessories used. I have a 200mm telescope with a focal length of 1000mm and I recently purchased two eyepieces, I think they are top notch: a 10mm APM ULTRA FLAT, and a 3.2mm ARTESKY SUPER ED. I also managed to make observations of the Moon and planets, but for filming I only managed to film the Moon with my Huawei smartphone. What do you recommend I use as accessories and filming tools, for planets through my telescope, a NEWTONIAN TS PHOTON on the CG-3 equatorial mount? Thank you in advance for your answer and I wish you much success in exploring the sky!
Hey man, I have a question about a telescope because I am interested in buying one and would like some advice. If you could help me out I’d really appreciate it. Are you familiar with the Orion XT8? Would I be able to view Neptune and Uranus and Saturn with it or are they too far? Would there be a lens that I’d have to purchase additionally to see? Or is there another telescope you’d recommend that is around the same price for viewing planets? I’m a beginner. If you could help me out that’d be awesome.

Hello! The Orion XT8 optical tube was actually used to image those planets for this video. It is a very capable telescope for viewing Saturn with a lens on the Dobsonian mount but Uranus and Neptune will appear extremely small showing distinguishable hints of color. A good 10mm or 12mm Eyepiece would be a start and a 5mm under the event that seeing conditions are pretty good. Keep in mind that all the planets can be seen with even a good pair of binoculars but the more aperture you have, the more features you are able to resolve at higher magnifications under the right seeing conditions.

Thank you. If you have just the 25mm Plossl that comes with the Apertura try a good quality wide field 10-12mm eyepiece for a higher magnification of the planets which will cater for the average day of seeing conditions. A 5mm would deliver great results during the odd days of great seeing. For deep sky unless you are living in a area with little to no light pollution don’t expect to see much. Investing in a suitable camera and taking longer exposures will bring out the details from your backyard. A smartphone attached to the eyepiece via a cheap adapter can do this using an app like Nightcap if you are on a budget.

The Meade series 5000 UWA 5.5mm is a wonderful eyepiece for the price and is very close to matching ones which cost 100s more. There is a slight chance your laser collimator may require collimating itself. When clamped facing a wall the red dot should remain still upon rotating the laser. Personally prefer a Cheshire or collimation cap for collimation but that’s subjective.
