This Tres Leches Cake is the softest, most moist cake you will ever have. A super light and fluffy sponge is soaked in a three milk mixture to create a melt-in-your-mouth cake like no other.

INGREDIENTS:
🔹Sponge Cake
▢1 cup (120 g) flour - plain, all purpose
▢¼ cup (30 g) cornstarch
▢1½ tsp baking powder
▢¼ tsp salt
▢5 large eggs - room temperature, white and yolks separated
▢1 cup (200 g) white granulated sugar - separated in half (1/2 for the egg whites & 1/2 for the egg yolk mixture)
▢1½ tbsp warm water - not boiling
▢2 tsp vanilla extract/essence
▢2 tbsp (30 g) unflavored vegetable oil - I use canola oil
🔹Milk Mixture
▢1¾ cups (425 g) evaporated milk - You will need two 12 oz cans (there will be some left over)
▢1 cup (305 g) sweetened condensed milk - You will need one 14 oz can (there will be a little left over)
▢¾ cup (180 g) heavy cream
🔹Stabilized Whipped Cream
▢1 cup (225 g) mascarpone - cold
▢½ cup (55 g) powdered sugar - also known as confectioners/icing sugar
▢1 tsp vanilla essence/extract
▢1½ cups (335 g) heavy cream - cold
▢ground cinnamon - for sprinkling on top

    Thank you sooooo much for this recipe. Was looking forward to your version of Tres-leches-cake. I tried it once by following a recipe from YT and kept it in fridge for good 36 hours before consuming it. Though it tasted really good. But I am sure this recipe is gonna overtake that recipe and your recipe is gonna be ky go to recipe for this cake from now. I have tried a lot of your recipes. While they all are fingerlicking but brownies, lemon cake, orange cake and spice cake are what my family is CRAZZZZYYYY about. May Allah bless you in both worlds. Aameen❤

    This reminds me of a childhood favourite. My mother learnt a recipe in the 1970s from an aunt for ‘ Pineapple Sponge Cake dessert’. It started with a sponge cake that is almost exactly like yours but it was drenched with lightly sweetened milk and syrup from the pineapple can. The cream icing wasn’t sweetened since the pineapple chunks were deemed sweet enough. I guess people like their desserts much sweeter and richer now. One could easily have half of it in one sitting such was the light airiness.

May Allah reward you delights from Jannah Now here is a challenge: I've been trying to make the cakes "healthier" by adding protein powder, but no matter how I tweaked it it never came out right.. I do plan to experiment with this and hopefully share some healthier recipes at the beginning of next year (when everyones feeling pumped to try healthier alternatives haha) :D

    Thank you!! :) You can simply half the quantities (I have a button on my recipe card on my blog that will help you do this automatically) and then use a smaller baking tin (an 8 or 9 inch round tin should work well). Because the thickness of the cake is roughly the same, the baking time will be around the same as the original recipe, but just test it by gently touching the top and if it slowly bounces back the cake is ready (you can use a toothpick to check too). Hope that helps! :)

    Hi there! :) You can simply leave it out and make a more simple whipped cream (the recipe for the simple version is on the video and in my blog post - cakesbymk.com/recipe/the-best-tres-leches-cake/) You could also use cream cheese but it does change the taste of the whipped cream :)

    Hi MK! This is my daughter's favorite cake! But I have a question. Why add oil? Have always heard that sponge cakes do not have any fat. But this looks delicious! I guess it is time to update my recipe 😊

    Hi Belle! Great question :) So some sponge cakes don't have any fat, and some have a little (like a genoise sponge). I just find that a tad bit of oil helps to keep the cake super soft and moist. Sometimes there can be bits of a tres leches cake that may not be soaked as well as other bits, so the extra oil just helps to make sure that you never get a dry bite! :) Hope you enjoy the recipe :D

    Heya! :) Good question! I’ve never tried a layered Tres Leches before, but I imagine if you soak the cakes while you’re assembling the layer cake and then let it sit for a while to soak up the milk it should work fine? It would probably be too hard to move the cake layers if they’re soaked beforehand - if that makes sense! I’ll have to try it out sometime and maybe share a recipe 😀

    Thank you Zeenat! :D Unfortunately for this recipe, with it being a sponge cake it relies heavily on the eggs for its structure and rise. I don't think you'll be able to replicate it by substituting the eggs with buttermilk or yoghurt. It might be best to search for an eggless tres leches cake recipe :) Sorry about that!

    Hi there! :) This will change the taste of the whipped cream (I prefer the more neutral taste of the mascarpone), but technically you can use cream cheese as a whipped cream stabiliser too :)

    Hola! :D For the sprinkles disappearing, it's best to use a brand that uses artificial color not natural color, and the sprinkles should be relatively firm :) For preserving cake layers, I would recommend wrapping them in cling wrap and placing into an airtight container until you are ready to use them the next day :) Hope that helps!
