The “Socially Harmful” Cult that Believes in Aliens & Double Orgasms I False Gods

Ойын-сауық

From teaching that children living with disabilities (or who’ve been sexually abused) are being punished for their errors in a previous life to carrots being as dangerous as heroin, Serge Benhayon's teachings may seem incredible, outlandish and dangerous. But to his followers, he is a god-like figure with healing powers.
Despite an Australian Court finding that it was true to say his organisation, Universal Medicine, was “a socially harmful cult”, it has continued to attract followers around the world and tear families apart.
We hear from Esther Rockett who was taken to court by Universal Medicine and Robin Clifford whose family was destroyed by his ex-wife joining the group.

I wanted to throw hands once I heard that he said "Children who were raped and who are disabled, are reincarnations of bad people and now are being punished for that" That's just absolutely disgusting. Nobody should be raped and be told that it was a punishment for a something they never did. Disabled people should never be told that they are being punished for something they never did.

It somewhat is the belief in many mainstream religions in the east. Some form of Buddhism for example explicitly believes in the above as in being reincarnated into disable beings due to psst sin while rape on the other hand maybe an injustice that happens to the innocent in the current life or retribution in form of “karma” to an evil born again - varies by sects for the rape while the disable is a tad more mainstream. I agree it might sound morally wrong to us but it probably makes sense in a larger context to them. It should be noted that their emphasis is that a person should not be treated poorly even if they were born with a misfortune but rather be treated as any human and those with misfortunes should focus on redemption. Similar beliefs also apply to Hinduism, they might be variation again by sects but the view is quite mainstream.

Well, the world is full of people that have no purpose in life, no goals, no ambition, and most of all a lack of self thinking, cults prey on that type of people, you give them some warm love, an "objective" to aim for, and they will follow you like a dog follows its master. It's not that they are "stupid", they just lack direction in life and don't know how to look for it.

@@rockstepguy3524 ya truely spoken in one sense but in another it's specious. Without your parents love and guidance you could easily be duped into any maze and if your parents didn't have no guidance then chances are nor will the descendents and they are gonna stay in messes. And this is why I continue to say that ppl should think twice b4 having children or making mistakes (kids) bc many come here only to be imprisoned for that very reason of being purposeless brought here but by mistake or assuming this is their home. However, these uneducated and poor ppl are not completely to be blamed for their meaningless life, they've had help and I'm not exactly sure what it is that you mean by not having no purpose. If a person wanted to live in a village and smoke weed all day sounds like a purpose to me as long as they aren't bothering anybody. If you meant in being a productive citizen, now that is a destructive purpose. Lol

The thing with cult is that they don't start with the crazy stuff. There's a Scientology building near my university and they purposefully target depressed, unconfident people who feel they have a lack of purpose in life and promise them that their method will help them grow. Like their flyer really says "are you depressed? Lack self esteem?" And invite you to come have a look at a "workshop". Same with "spiritual" retreats. I saw the testimony of a woman who got into a wellness yoga cult without realising it until she got to the retreat and the strategy was to exhaust people with exercise, fasting and limited sleep, make them meditate, and use the haze in which they were to make the crazy beliefs easier to swallow. Many corporate coaches also use cult methods centering self-confidence to get to people and invest in them and just use a different lingo than the spiritual stuff. If you're at a low point and scared and no one around you supports you, it can be easy for a manipulator to take advantage of you

@@oldschoolman1444 Yeah, it's a messy combination. I think almost all ignorance stems from belief. When you think about it, that's sort of the definition of ignorance: the belief that your belief holds the same value as someone else's knowledge. It's not the textbook definition but I think it's better. Any true belief short circuits critical thinking. I think people tend to confuse belief with confidence at times. Sometimes when we have confidence in this thing or that we say, "I believe in that thing!" But it's different than belief in this context. Belief in this context says, "I believe it is so and so it is so." I think that's the dangerous form of belief that leads to ignorance. And the more ignorant we are, the more likely we are to believe all the rest of the BS that comes our way. It's a vicious cycle.

People like you and me who can see that this is nuts would walk out the first day, but more vulnerable people stay long enough until he dismantles their personality and they become entirely different people. I really do wonder why some people choose obvious cults over more established organized religions. Cults ask everything from you, organized religion asks like $5 a week. Is it because the cult leader is usually right there so you can see the effect of your contributions? Is it because the people are just lonely and a cult is (actually) a great place to find a sense of community? I am genuinely interested in this topic.

This is what happens when you have a high church-to-library ratio. When a society values BELIEF in something rather than knowledge, critical thinking, and asking questions -- it's a LOT easier to rule over a society that doesn't ask too many questions than a society of informed electorates. THIS is what religion gets you.

Very interesting, the technique of using generic claims to tap into people's vulnerabilities. How many of us fall victim to such claims of knowing that we suffer in some way or other and that we can be healed. I agree that these people are indeed preditors.

@@lalallamd2921 This is the problem. I say "I used to be a Jehovah's Witness" and people hear "I don't go to church anymore. They don't hear "I never had a birthday or Christmas or Easter or Halloween. I was abused and the congregation covered it up. I was denied a blood transfusion and almost died. I wasn't allowed friends outside the congregation. I was told what I could and couldn't read. I was told that Harry Potter was evil and I wasn't allowed to read the books or watch the films. Part of our vacation time was spent going to conventions where I sat sweating in a suit, bored out my skull. My parents were taught to beat me if I misbehaved. I left and my family and friends have completely cut me off. I wasn't erven told when my mother died." It's endless. Its harming. It's a cult. I've been there. I'm still there. Shunned and unfriended. It's not like another religion, believe me.

@@BiteYerBumHard yh I understand. But other religions are terrible too. Most religions are terrible tbh. And you'll never realize if you are in the religion. I know a lot of christians that look down on Muslims because of their archaic beliefs and vice versa. You never understand the religion fully until you're in it. I understand what you're saying as someone that is a Jehovah's witness, I never realized all these, I never knew I was being brainwashed. It was a norm, yes I felt left out and embarrassed when I had to tell my friends that I couldn't wish them happy birthday and see their faces drop but I never actually saw it as trauma. Because in mind, they had it so much worse. This comment is definitely useless because I'm not supporting you neither am I against you.
