Most of the time when people complain about frame rates, I never notice anything myself. So I never take frame rate issues to heart when someone says something negative. With that said, this looks like the best Smurfs game I've ever seen. That one on Wii U (Smurfs 2) bored me to death. I'll definitely be buying this game.

The ps5 version is very jittery fps is terrible on that version. The switch actually looks like it runs smoother.

Thanks for covering this. Not a huge Smurfs fan here, but this does look like an enjoyable game - minus the frame rate issues, ofc. Maybe one to wait for a patch/sale then. On to the wishlist it goes!

as licensed IPs go, I think good quality games can be elevated with favorite characters and worlds. if only big corporations realized that it isn't ONLY about the characters.

This game is brilliant and not as innocent as you think. You still gotta be good at platforming as the game goes on. The Smurfglider and sprint abilities you must master or those collectibles can go bye bye! And those painful vines! Looks are deceiving, be on your guard!

Played on PC, and still had framerate issues. But the gameplay was surprisingly polished, especially for a b-title, and I had a lot of fun. I also lol'd when voice actors actually said stuff like "Holy Smurf!"

Saw this on sale today. Amd I guess I am getting this one. Thanks for the review🙂

I read the games name as "The Smurfs: Mission Vile AF" My brain might be broken but made me laugh!

I had never heard of this game, but I'm a sucker for 3D platformers, so might at least need to add it to the wishlist.

great review! i was hoping this was going to be great at launch, either way i love the smurfs and this channel.

Smurfs were in comic strip in 1959 in European and in Smurf Cartoon series in America in 1981 which ran until 1990.

Putting this on my Christmas list for this year. My 6 year old son will love it. Thank you

I like the fact you weren't sniffy about this because of the license. You gave it a fair crack of the whip, shame the frame rate tanks. Maybe they'll patch it (hopefully they do).

I’d be happy to give this one a recommendation without the issue honestly, I really was having a great time with it. To the point where, I’ll grab it on the cheap if we don’t see a patch on another platform

That's a little unfair, this game is nowhere near a 4/10. I have no issues with the frame rate, but I'm playing the PS4 version. Maybe that's just an issue with the Switch version but that flaw is on the console, not the game. I'm a Smurfs fan, but I was so terrified that this was going to be a very cheap, super easy game because it's not a super popular franchise. But it's not. It's fun, challenging and very beautiful! It honestly kind of reminds me of Banjo-Tooie with a pinch of something like Kingdom Hearts. There are some areas where the game could improve, like you said, it might be cool to have some fully animated cutscenes or if it were a little longer. But the game cutscenes are good and it's definitely a great starting point if the developers continue a game series from this. I personally give it a 9/10, but I think most would agree it's at least an 8/10.

Loved the 2D one on Wii U. I will be picking this one up as well

More fun than the GTA trilogy

That’s not a lie at all, I walked away from this thinking, I had fun with this and it’s ashame to see the few issues really holding it back, GTA, I turned it off and questioned what they had done. Smurfs got more love and respect for sure

Wish both Psychonaut games could come to Switch. Would love that

I will very likely get this one once the price goes down a little bit.

I’m really exited for this game to come out I have it pre ordered for the ps5 it’s gonna look so good on it and I have the collectors edition for the switch but this is just a switch review for the game

I love a good 3d platformer, I might have to get this one.

my guess is the limit on the smurf-izer is implemented to stop sequence breaks with unlimited hover

Interesting and I’d say correct, maybe just the limiter with the hover then, that would make more sense

Too many games still for me to play, also not enough nostalgia in this series for me to take a trip down memory lane. Thanks for the review and we all appreciate the efforts you put into your reviews to give us the best available information to make decisions on games.

It’s tough with games like this, you can see the good but you gotta recognize the problems. Tbh a game you love or can’t stand, that video is easy, the tough ones are when you like it and it has glaring issues and figuring out how you can justify that. Appreciate the comment!

Reminds me of the latest Spongebob 3D platformers that was remade/revived.

Hm...a 3D platformer where the cartoon main character has a backpack that can spray things clean, hover across gaps and zoom forward like a speedboat. Where have I seen this before...?

This cartoon is really dark but you need to look for it

True, kids won't care about the frame rate. I didn't care about it when I was a kid to be honest. But now that's the first thing I'm concerned about.

Looks decent. Graphics is good for a Switch (low res textures here are not that harmful as it is on PS5).

Smurfs on SNES was, still is, one of the hardest games i know. Its (almost) Super Star Wars level tbh...

Super Star Wars gave me nightmares

It’s a shame performance issues happen on games like this that seem perfect for the switch which should be the system that gets preferential treatment as it’s considered a family console.

So after watching this I went and bought the ps5 versions cause of the performance lol and the ps5 framerate is ridiculous, I should have gotten switch it actually looks more solid. Lazy work there is no need for framerate drops on ps5 . Get the switch version.

Looks fun but not $40 for me hehe

This game looks like it is manageable with fps drops. But I think I agree it does decrease the rating of the game.

It’s the flying elements that get extremely awkward and some locations it can be an ongoing issue

I smurf this is a kind of smurf game, but still smurf though, so I may smurf it ! 😏

0:0:10 the smurfs is from the 80's not the 50's I thought.

Had this comment a few times, their first appearance was in 1958, comic books, they also had an animated series from 1961 - 1967 in Belgium, they eventually had the 1981 show which many refer to which was the American premiere

"The Smurfs" cartoon is from 1981. The Smurf characters first appeared in a 1958 comic book.
