The arrangement and tune of this song is hauntingly beautiful.

Truly beautiful song.

This song reminds me of the time I had to buy Perrier in the train station because it was the cheapest water and it went straight to my head!

This is so uniquely The Smiths, no other band could/would have ever written this. It is so fragile and poignant.

One of the best songs from them.....................

and also the old woman in Titanic (1997) as she recalls her young adventure and romance with DiCaprio's character, and then she throws the Blue Heart of the Sea overboard at the end and keeps her. wonderful memories in her heart forever...footage of that would also work GREAT with this

Am I the only one that sees this as a very dark song?! The instruments are all out of tune, the dissonance makes you feel... strange, uncomfortable. The lyrics are saying... I don't want you in the way of my desires and dreams... goodbye... it is melancholy and a touch of nihilism/misanthropy mixed in.

Lyrically, the speaker is revealing himself to be selfish and driven, with no mercy given to anyone who gets in his way, strategically or emotionally. I always assumed it was a kiss-off to Johnny as the band fell apart. I doubt he cared at that point!

It's about Johnny wanting to leave the Smiths and work with other people, and Morrissey trying to cope with that.
