It's theft as far as I'm concerned. It's like paying to have a kitchen fitted but not getting the oven you paid for. Yes, you can still use the rest of the kitchen but it's not the package you thought you'd paid for.

I do think if a major coaster is closed some sort of discount or concession should be given.

Yeah I got a photo after i saw him recording on the green in front of the towers

I went just 2 days ago! Smiler was down all day long, as well as Congo river rapids, hex and thirteen, which was on and off. It was a shame as it was my first ever visit but I still had an amazing day, with a quite a few walk ons! Waited on the queue for th13teen for about 30 minutes and then it began to rain so sadly the ride was shut off. But I managed to get on nemesis within 20 minutes after that so not to bad!

@@flaw3dgenius222 We were there 7 days ago. We were evacuated twice from 13 queue due to the slightest rain. Other rides were still going (same rain!!) so what specifically stops 13 from operating in the rain?

Im so sad abt the smiler, i booed two trips, one at the end of October and one in November and the smiler is the only reason I bother going most the time. Coming from 200 miles away. Gutted. Shall be so mad if it’s not open

There’s nothing more frustrating then going to a park for a specific ride and not realizing it isn’t open. I went to cedar point the year maverick opened just to find out opening was delayed for a few weeks so that they could take out one of the inversions. I was gutted. Wasn’t able to make it back for another 8 years.

SHAUN! I was queuing for The Wicker Man at around 7ish Today (22nd October 2021) and when we were in the Preshow room, The FIRE ALARM! Yes the fire alarm set off whether there was an actual fire or not it was a very scary moment and it’s something that I doubt I’ll ever see again! Great Vlog as always just thought I’d let you know!! It was a crazy thing I didn’t expect AT ALL 😂

Hello There, Thank you for producing this and sharing these insights into Alton Towers operations, Thank you for the updates on The Smiler, Th13teen, Congo River Rapids as well. This is a decent Vlog with great commentary throughout, which is really useful. Cheers Peter :) p.s. the lighting looks really decent. p.p.p.s. i definitely agree, as Paulton's Park also has the same page with regards to Ride Closures etc., it just makes total sense to inform people about these major closures, rather than at the Resort etc.

I managed to get my first ever ride on the smiler just a few days before it closed, I'm so glad I went when I did because I absolutely loved it. Went on 3 times before it closed because of the weather on that day.

Thank you for the updates, I agree that UK parks should update ride closures on the website as people travel far to ride popular rides like the Smiler and may not know that the ride is closed.

Was here on this day. Missed you by about 3 minutes. Scarefest was awesome, the attic and altonville mine were superb on our run through, junkyard and darkest depths were a little bit disappointing but still great in terms of themeing... Hoping they start bringing back scare zones that would make Scarefest even better. Only thing that was disappointing was that the smiler was down.I'll hopefully get on it one day. Didnt spoil the few days we had cos we got on wicker man for a night ride which was awesome. Enchanted village was great to stay in aswell (using your recommendations) Shame that they can't have thirteen running in the rain but safety is definitely paramount in these places. Thanks for the updates 😊

We went on Wednesday and did manage to catch Th13teen (noticed it was back running when getting off Rita and had fast track). Galactica was running one train and using only one station. The train that was running had many seats out of use (not clear why), so a dramatically reduced capacity and also loading took a long time trying to match groups to the available seats. Shame about Smiler too. Had a good time and love Alton Towers but the park wasn't on form this time and probably didn't justify the cost. Keep up the great work, enjoy your videos. We'll be back when we can

I was at Alton Towers for a few days last week and although it was disappointing to miss The Smiler, it was still better than my trip to Chessington where every major ride was down lol. I still had a brilliant time at Scarefest. The staff told me that there was an issue with The Smilers wheels and it would be probably opening the next day but that was a week ago lol.

Really enjoyed this video, great level of information. I visited on the 11th of October and The smiler was closed along with the rapids and other rides were opening and closing all day which was very weird. Probs my worst ever visit to Alton but I have lots of great days so won't let one bad one get me down too much lol. Great video 😁

Got back last night. What a place that is. Love it!! Wednesday we managed just 3 rides up to 4pm. Ques were mad,,so we went for our free golf (bloody brilliant), booked into our room. Came back at 6pm and in 3 hours we got 3 rides on Nemesis,,2 goes on Galactica and Oblivion. Hit wicker and spinball earlier and yesterday got Rita and Thirteen in the bag!! In short The 6-9pm slot made the day. Lots leave with kids and the mazes take a lot away. Brilliant couple of days. Shame about smiler!! Cheers for update Shaun.

I’m happy that it is reopening in March as that’s when I’m off and it is such a signature ride at the park.

good job Shawn on the update at Alton Towers Resort and the firework spectacular on the front lawns update. keep the good work up no the Chanel, big thumbs up to you Shawn Sanbrooke on the theme park as well.

I think in terms of Th13teen, Alton will decide to build some sort of canopy over the lift hill to stop tyre slippage. An indoor part before the crypt would be awesome

I have never been to Alton towers but I would love to come , it would be honestly really fun if they have a theme parks with really intense rides for example simlliar , rage and all those and extreme from fun fairs

I was there on Monday and Tuesday, the staff at Smiler said that management had brought Smiler's full annual maintenance and safety checks forward to last week which is why it's closed. They didn't say why they brought it forward only that they hoped it would be back this week.

Agh I was there that day . Was a bit of a strange day . Favourite part …. The gardens for sure and the entertainments team again!! Are brilliant and an asset

i went to the towers with my school on friday, the smiler was closed, th13rteen was closed until we left, nemisis was closed because someone got stuck on it, and oblivion had about 20 minutes downtime. it sucked since this was planned in may with 2 postpones. hopefully the next trip will go better.

I was there last week and we had traveled over 450 miles and we were devastated that the smiler was closed. The staff wouldn’t say why it was closed and I only saw maybe 2 trains on all day. Thirteen was down a lot as well!!

Of course safety is paramount in the theme park industry but Th13teen has always seemed to be very fussy when it comes to operating requirements with it not being able to operate below 5°C and with it requiring full capacity to run. This not being able to run in the rain issue does sound like a temporary fault rather than a standard operating requirement to me as I doubt any theme park would want a ride that has to shut down in the slightest bit of rain, especially in the UK

I was in Alton towers yesterday and the smiler was off all day :/ and the ques was so long I didn’t get on much , but I tried out the attic and it was great!

I heard from someone that a hat was lost on the ride and messed with the sensors and someone from Gerstlauer had to come over and have a look. Idk if that's true but if it is they're probably just sending one train around to see what's wrong with it in-between tests. So they can fix and tweak certain things before they test again. Just my thoughts on things

Yeah the sensors detect any little thing after the accident

I went to Alton Towers on the 18th, I spoke to a member of staff who seemed very knowledgeable and he said that the Smiler is being serviced but because of the rain they've been having they can't do a lot. He also said he's unsure as to why it has taken to long to service but he can assure that nothing is wrong with it.

Great vlog as always. I was an engineer at pleasure island Cleethorpes and as you'll know the mini mine train used kicker wheels on it's lift hill. They are geared in such a way that they can only run forwards as I'd expect on 13. Difference is that 13 runs multiple trains. My guess would be that rain caused a train to slide back. Maybe a brake at the bottom of the lift may be fitted

Sean you are a life saver, just went on your channel to see if you knew about it- i was meant to be going on the 24th which is so sad- been hyping it up for over a month and this happens

Thanks for the updates, I wonder whats going on with The Smiler! I went to Thorpe Park Tuesday, most painful ride ever on Collosus and on both trains they weren't filling the same 4 rows which made the queue time twice as long as the app stated. I wonder why they weren't filling those seats! The mazes were great there this year, I'm glad I got to go!

ah loved this towers update my number one park and always will be my fav :)) yh went scarefest last saturday now and cant believe its still closed. we were told it was an annual maintenance check? really strange hope its open soon but interesting about 13! happy got on it last week aaaa

I was there last week and th13teen was my favourite ride I was on!! can't wait to see what they do with the ride to try end this problem :]

I'm going to be bringing two friends on their first trip to Alton Towers next weekend. Here's hoping that the weather is good and The Smiler starts to operate again. At least Nemesis, Oblivion and Wicker Man are all good, that's the beauty of having so many top tier rollercoasters in one place :D

I went last saturday and it was absolutely amazing, although smiler was down we got on all other big attractions including a night ride on wicker man which was fantastic and front row seats on nemesis. Its a shame smiler was down as i really wanted the credit :(

Hi! Thanks for the update :) (I never really comment on KZread, to be honest, but I've watched your channel for many years on my various accounts) Your channel is really great for theme park news and such, especially as I'm quite far from major UK parks and typically don't visit often. That's why I've only ever managed to visit Alton Towers once a few years ago and why it took me so long to plan another visit. We're going on the 24th and 25th of October and have paid for platinum fast track because we live so far away. A massive part of this trip is the possibility of finally riding the Smiler as I didn't get the chance on my last visit. I know it's a little unfair to ask this, but based on any speculation and/or rumours you may have heard over the period that the Smiler has shut- when would you assume it to reopen? I won't hold you or anyone to their claims about this situation, but a different perspective would be nice. Thanks :)

Was there yesterday and had a great time! Didn't run into you unfortunately Got a last second ride on Wickerman in the dark and it was amazing >:)

they could possibly add an indoor tunnel with some audio and a few effects, it could go from the station to the top of the lift to protect the wheels from the rain. It would be a good idea to do the same with the second lift.

Just got back after visiting for 2 days. Very very busy and smiler was still closed. Headed there first both days and both times told not working all day. Thankfully only rained towards the end on the last day and as you say 13 immediately closed thankfully been on twice by then. Definitely helps with staying till 9 can get to most of it although needed both days. Sky ride also not working so had to walk but found the app really helpful with directions.

Awesome video. Too bad Smiler went down today and tonight. But I am surprised that Thirdteen had upgraded changes that it will no longer operate during the rain.

Looks like we was lucky to ride it, we came out I think on the 6th of October and it was a walk on! Cracking day!

I was on the smiler 5 days before it closed.. glad I got on before it shut for the rest of the season!!

Good day yesterday Shaun , shame about smiler . Galactica was 2 hours on the app today and they announced on Instagram that they were at capacity. Not seen the overflow car parks on the grass used for a long time 😳🧱👍🏽

Me, my daughter and her friend went on Wednesday and all the rides had been closed at least once that day, we fortunately bought fast pass so we managed to get on th13teen but we were evacuated off the train on our 1st go. It was a really good experience riding wicker man in the dark swell.

Read online that there was some pushing and shoving in the smiler main building and the barriers to let you onto the ride got damaged, when the people responsible for it were being kicked out they let off a firework inside the building.

Hi shaun , a couple of weeks a go the train travelling up the drive tyre lift hill rolled back as the tyres were to slippy to take the train to its highest point (beacause of rain). tThis is the reason why is cannot operate in the rain.

@@liam6200 The tyres may just be worn down and may not be firmly gripping it. May just need replacing with a thicker tread, which will then grip the train better.🤷‍♂️

Same! First trip and we only got on 5 different rides (8 total times) for various reasons but I was quite disappointed as that's two 3 and a half hour journeys and a hotel stay I will never get back! Hoping to go back maybe some point next year aha

With regards to the Smiler a member of staff spoke to us at the park and explained that the ride was due for a service. They said normally the park wouldn't conduct this during peak attendance but they were given no choice due to the pandemic causing issues for the company doing the service. They also confirmed it is not being serviced by Gerstlauer but by a third party.

when I went recently I was told the smiler was having an 'MOT' and as you said they are waiting for a new part I have also been told that the part is most likely a small one that doesn't majorly affect it yet is needed to keep it as safe as possible. As annoying as it was I would rather have a ride that is as safe as possible however it was really upsetting to not go on it

I did trick o treat town and it was so much fun, i also got on galactica and rita twice yesterday

Speaking of Galatica, I think they are running fewer trains as I was told on Wednesday that it was running at reduced capacity. I joined the queue when it said 30 minutes and it ended up taking a whole 90 minutes! To top it all off, we got stuck just before entering the station and we were hanging there for another 20 minutes...at least we were given free entry for our next visit but I'm not sure when that will be as I'm 5 hours away! It was my first visit in 10 years so I was gutted about The Smiler - will catch it next time!

I saw photos from the 13 incident and I know someone who was there, basically what happened is an empty train rolled back down the lift hill and collided with a train in the station at a really low speed but caused minor neck and back injury to guests who were being loaded into the train in the station. It rolled back because of the rain

from what ive heard from the smiler team.. one of the 2 brake sensors just before the vertical chainlift is broken, in doing this, it COULD run without the part, but its merlin they will probably just wait years for the part

I went to Alton Towers back in 2019, and there was a load of rain, and the ride did fine so it's sad that they can't send it around in the rain :(

A rollercoaster not to go in the rain. We are in britain we are famous for our rain. My mother is doing the run around Alton towers on 13th November. I will never go on the smiler because of that acident what happened. A girl lost her leg.

honestly, the smiler being closed might be a good thing for the overall experience! even tho its an incredible ride, without fastrack its a good 2 hour wait usually which id rather spend going on nemesis a few times or in the scarefest attractions!

Wrong, you want all the rides to be open so it will disperse the queues better, so your not waiting for hours on each one

I haven't been since September because I'm now at University. It's most likely the case that I won't be able to visit Alton Towers again before the end of the season. But hopefully I'll be able to visit again next year and by that point, hopefully everything will be fixed.

Hi Shawn I went recently. Thirteen and Smiler were closed all day and Nemesis + Rita were on and off all day. As Thirteen and Smiler are coasters that draw the crowd a lot. Everywhere else was busy Galitica was 3 hours and Oblivion was 2 hours

Was at Alton towers yesterday shame I didn’t see you but I was upset that the smiler was closed but not that fussed as I’ve ridden the smiler so many times

Great vlog as usual. You should do one from Thorpe Park on a Saturday. Seen so many articles and complaint’s about their operations. Saw a newspaper article of a family who got on 2 rides and 1 maze in 13 hours. Utter disgrace. Thorpe park is known for awful weekend operations but they continue to over sell capacity. They should be ashamed.

@@madmike6266 Yeah, even for Merlin, Thorpe Park is such a half arsed park. I went there last July (not school holidays, but during school weekdays so that people would be at school). Didn't matter. Every coaster had a massive queue, couldn't get the food I wanted because they set the fire alarm off (to be fair to the staff they ran and got me a pizza instead, but even that took a good 20 minutes to half an hour to get) Place also looks tired as all hell, worst had to be the Derren's Brown Ghost Train. What's the point in booking a time if I still have to wait 45 minutes for it? Can't believe they wasted all that money on that shite instead of a new coaster, which it's now gonna be over a decade since their last one. All in all, until Thorpe makes some big changes, I can't justify going back there, and I say that as somebody who's rapidly growing into somewhat of an enthusiast.

@@sumisu_senpai_6280 completely agree mate. From stabbing to peoples car getting keyed to awful operations. This park really is the complete gutter of the industry. Just close it down and relocate the rides. It’s a disgrace.
