It's been a rough year. Lost my dad, a friend, and a pet over the past months, and lost myself as well. My wife just surprised me with tickets for the Miami show in June. In the past year, I’ve lost my mama, my oldest sister and 3 days ago her youngest son unexpectedly died. When my sister died, I listened to this song over and over for days. I turn 70 tomorrow, my nephew’s memorial service is in the afternoon and on Monday my partner is taking me to see The Smile as a birthday gift. I wish I could meet Thom to tell him how much this music reaches into my heart and soul!

The scream of "Climbing of the wall".
I was seated in front of Thom at the first Magazin London gig and the "pouring rain" part instantly chilled my bones, the desperate voice and the deep sorrow in his eyes + Jonny's piano-harp arpeggios made time stopped for a sec, perhaps the strongest musical feeling i've ever got, never left me since then By far the best emotional track on the album

Thanks for posting your feelings. Wish I had been there too. I can't stop playing it. The drums in the intro.. the gentle introduction of the orchestration...the voice. The melodies. Jesus. The melodies avoid too much sugar.. but they have the gift of nearly reducing me to tears. Sorry, I'm havering.. Thanks again.
We run for the hills We run like fools Our city is aflame The bells ringing The bells ringing Devastation has come Left in a station with a note upon Now, there's never any place Never any place to put my feet back down No, there's never anywhere Scene is rolled away, lights are taken down On a newspapers stand Any feeble branch to put my weight upon Well, I lie to myself Anywhere I dare to put my feet back down Who'll find a cab In the pouring rain? Who'll find a vein To put the needle in? And who hears that voice? It's like bells ringing How will I know you? How will I know you? How will I know you?

There are guitar nuances reminiscent of "Reckoner" floating in the second half. And the vibe of the album as a whole feels like an adjunct to A Moon Shaped Pool.
This song is ridiculously beautiful
How does this man sound so ethereal? It's like melancholy in the dark depths of space.
This song brought me to tears when I seen them in Glasgow in march, unbelievable experience 🏴🎸👀👍
Man, I shed tears of joy for The Smile.
This song and the rest of the album, is an absolute post-radiohead masterpiece, every time I hear those songs, I can hear unique melodies, impossible guitar arrangements and superb percussion and drums. Not to speak about Thom's bass lines, simple, effective and serving the songs... It' s been a long time since the last time I got that sense of travelling to another places while listening which is amazing...This light has attacted my attention, definitely 👍🏼

Yes, this is an incredible album
It never fails that Thom and Johnny can put out an album that at first disorients, and yet ends up worming it's way into your subconscious. My first listen leaves me wondering if their best days are behind them, but after repeated investigation I fall ever deeper in love with it. It's one of my favorite characteristics of their songwriting. It never gets old. And Jonny's brass orchestration on this album is sublime.

I might be totally wrong but I view this song as being about Kiev, Ukraine in general I guess. If I recall early on in the invasion the Russians bombed a station full of people and when they found the remnants of the missile it had the words 'for the children' written on it. Could be wrong though.

I started getting into Radiohead in 2021 - I went so deep into their music, but also Thom Yorke's electronic albums, Atoms for peace, and now The Smile. This album is so good. It’s beautiful, grooving, dark…so textural and in sync with itself. Thom’s voice is fanatastic as always and Johnny’s work is impeccable as we’ve all come to greet with wide open ears. Tom is such a great addition to these two. ❤️❤️❤️

it's the rolling piano from The Numbers/Glass Eyes at 3:05 that seals it for me
I've not seen a group or artist grow and evolve and improve for 30 years. I really havent. a lot of people start phoning it in. Thom and Jonny are a once in a lifetime example of synchronicity. 2 musical genius' meeting, and connecting so deeply. I hope for the future of music, that it had as little as possible to do with their academic backgrounds. if not, there is perhaps a lesson to learn.
