The Smallwood Vintage Rally 2022 Pt1/2 - a HUGE gathering of classic cars & lorries in Cheshire
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Join us at Smallwood Vintage Rally 2022 for a leisurely walk around the classic cars, lorries, stationary engines and historic caravans even at this year's show. This visit is split across two videos as I filmed more than I thought I would ... here is Part 1, the second (shorter) instalment has also been uploaded now ( • Classic lorries, campe... ).
There were plenty of old cars and vehicles to pore over, and helped by the fantastic weather the crowds were out in force by mid-morning.
Gems from the car section at this Cheshire show include a wonderful Sunbeam Talbot Alpine (also in the thumbnail), Austin Big 7, a vintage Humber saloon, a L-Type Vauxhall Wyvern, various Beetles, a pre-war MG TA sportscar, an immaculate Volvo 144 and Amazon estate, a pair of Ford Model Ts, Lanchester LD10, and many more automotive delights.
Please keep an eye on the channel if you like mooching around these vehicle shows as we hope to get to several more this year. Don't forget to take a look around the rest of the channel as plenty of shows from 2020/2021 have also made it on here already.

Thanks jakmoan, glad you like this kind of thing!
Amazing how you are so knowledgeable regarding registration plates. It's hard to figure them out unless one 'knows the code (s) and what to look for.
My father had a Ford Consul 315 in the early 70's.
Well , l've succumbed ! Your coverage is very comprehensive and many of these vehicles we just don't get down in the South West . Thanks

Excellent. Looking forward to Part II.
Wow that show must stimulate so many senses, sounds, smells, sights. Sensory overload possible! I loved that Foden bus 👍
Wow Rick. I think that is one of your best every videos ever. Like Harley says he always has a best in show. Mine has to be that Sunbeam Talbot. I loved the Vauxhall Wyvern, if you remember I told you sat on my Dads knee steering as he did the pedals. I loved the busses.

Start of the video stationary engine...as a boy in early 60s there was a massive petrol pump at the royal cinque ports golf course.it was for irrigation and pumped water around the entire course..one thing sticks in my mind the car beretta iceing up in summer, all ticket science to me then.. I wonder what happened to the engine...you always bring back memories..many thanks sir.
Well that was a brilliant video, perfect for watching before the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on TV. Thanks for sharing this with us - what a great day out you had ! Take care.
The Bedford Truck was a KM series. One of my favourite Bedfords. Some of them had the mighty GM Detroit Diesel 6V53N or 6v71 or even 8v71 and a road ranger gearbox. Almost sounds as good as a TS3. This was a proper truck and had an amazing sound. Fantastic video, looking forward to part 2. Thanks for showing. Loved the Foden half cab bus, just so much attention to detail.
Fantastic collection, looking forward to part 2

Brilliant walkaround. You know what they say about buses, well the same can be said for the Thames Trader. Always saw them when I was younger but seem very rare now. Far to many vehicles to recount here cars and commercial all very nice. Thanks again Rick, will look forward to Part 2.👍👍
Brilliant 😎👍
IM GLAD HE SAID THERE'S A LITTLE DOGGIE WHEN I HEARD THE BARKING I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ELEPHANT !
Many thanks for a great guided tour of the Smallwood show. If I remember correctly, Lester Pigott, who sadly passed away recently, used to race a horse called 'Thames Trader'. Loved the Vauxhall Wyvern? and J and O series Bedfords by the way. Thanks again.

Glad the info sheets were readable enough on the screen, wasn't sure how they'd come out!
Really good to see a mk1 escort as it was built so many now rs and mexico look a likes
WOW Fantastic collection.. It was a relaxed, leisurely breakfast today for me. Look forward to Pt 2. I have never classed a Jensen Interceptor as an old car. I think they can still hold significant appeal today. I would have one at the drop of a hat. These make modern cars although technologically highly advanced lack style , character and class. I cannot see any of today's offerings ending up in classic cars shows of the future.

Agreed Interceptors are very 1960s cool, although I'd probably opt for a 541 or C-V8. Moderns have all the kit but no class at all.
Haydons were cattle haulers , my Dad drove for them , he had a much later Albion .
Cummins Diesels, are now owned by the Belgian Van Hool, Coach Builders/Trailer and Tanktainer Manufacturers.
Well I nearly fell through the floor when you got to the Granada I thought you found my old one HDH 497T but alas it wasn't 🙁 great video though 👍 hope part 2 has vintage steam as I am a fan like you 🙂

Great video as ever we are actually having our second E reg Bambi converted back into a rascal pick up as the cost of restoring the camper part & the cab would’ve been too much . For the price of 2 replacement camper side windows I bought a rascal donor cab & a v rare pick up bed.
Cracking upload :)

Yellow single decker bus, Bournemouth Corporation Transport, red and cream double decker is Potteries Municiple Transport.
The Citroen DS19 in your video was manufactured in South Africa in 1972, came over in 2015 and was significantly upgraded. The original SA only vinyl seats were replaced with leather seats as found in the Pallas and includes Pallas thick carpeting for maximum comfort. The 1.9 litre engine was replaced by the 2.3 litre engine. .Interestingly, discrete UK rear light units as seen in early DS's built in Citroen Slough in the 60's feature in this vehicle rather than the rectangular lens assembly as seen in European manufactured Citroen. There is an additional pair of reflectors of South African manufacture fitted to meet South African requirements as the normal reflector fitted on the rear wing will not be evident if the wing is removed to change a tyre at the roadside. Sorry it is a lengthy comment. I felt rightly or wrongly that you were stuck for something to say about the car. It gives you the option should you choose to use what you will, and I have no doubt you will come across the car at the many shows ai attend.
@ 15:27: That's a Polaroid. Instamatics were made by Kodak.
I drove for PMT on the meir square to Talk pits.
I wonder what the median in 4 cylinder compression ratios is in the UK.
a forestry timber tractor probably home made.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
What was the reason for cars before the 2nd World War not having a boot to put luggage in etc ? Some cars did have a boot of sort but the majority did not, was it social reasons ?
@oldclassiccarUK

I suppose it might be a legacy of the horse-drawn carriages with baskets or storage trunks strapped to a frame on the back, cars continued like that into the 1930s when enclosed boot areas began to routinely make their appearance. Smaller cars persisted with no boot space and just a rack on the back for longer I suspect, perhaps it was also a cost of production thing too

who wants to see 6 22 reg trucks all the same taking up loads of valuable space when people with proper vintage vehicles cannot get in the show ?

They're not my thing either but it may be that the company that runs them sponsor the show maybe? (I've not checked back to be sure mind), so long as there are only a few and the majority are interesting I'll keep going :-) Thanks for watching
You're right, IMHO: most finned cars are ugly or so outrageous and extreme (I.e. 1959 Caddy) that they ironically become 'great' classics.
I hate patina.
