What is striking it that though buildings are old they are surprisingly clean and tidy. Dont see any trash around

It is actually a rich slum cos the buildinds are high rise and the surroundings are quite clean.if only they clean up the place and do some paintwork it will be much better.

Despite being a tier 1 city, this is still common in Beijing, in which I have lived for four years. My love of cycling and hiking has given me an opportunity to see/experience this firsthand, and even after four years, the disparity only a few miles can make is unfathomably large. While I don't deny that simple things, such as takeaways and Taobao deliveries are probably difficult, a lot of residence choose this "way of life" because the Government provides yearly grants to areas whose GDP (or equivalent measure) isn't high enough to satisfy the population. Excluding the current generation, many people were provided with free housing in the 60's, which is why that despite the quality, it is still preferable to maintain that home, even if it cannot be legally transferred to your heir. Even though big cities are highly dependent on service industry roles, the socialism and provenance help maintain the displayed preferences and/or attitude in the videos that this channel shows. I was actually in Chongqing for 4 days at the end of last month, and while a constant hike due to the topography, and indeed a huge, aged population, there is definitely a difference (positive) difference in the attitude between people there and those from Shanghai and Beijing.

There are many places just like this all over the world . There the people will make money selling the only thing that they have left , which is themselves in order to support not only their self but family too . I like how you show the real living conditions of the poor people who live there and call this home . i also love the gardens where they grow food to eat and to sell at the market .

Definition of slum is a thickly populated section, especially of a city marked by crowding, dirty run-down housing, and generally poor living conditions. Different countries have different societies and different types of slum, you can't compare apples to orange, and both are fruits but not the same. BTW... China has plentiful homeless people. You just don't see it on video

This is not slum. If you look at slums in India, Latin America or the Philippines, each family has a tiny room. In this case, each Chinese family owns a building. The buildings are poor organized because they are built by the villagers. This is not the city and nobody plans the buildings. But this is not slum, no.

This is NOT a slum. This is just an older area of Chongqing. A slum is an area of people who don't have access to safe drinking water and/or reliable electricity. These people meet both of these conditions. Do they have a lower median income than the average person in Chongqing? Most likely. However, this is not a slum because slums no longer exist in China - not since 2021.

Typically, a slum relates to the quality of housing and the cleanliness of the area. Not to mention rodents, etc. China does not NOT NOT have potable water. All water from taps has to be boiled. I have lived in ZhengZhou, SuZhou, WuHan. The water from the tap is not, NOT potable.😂
