    Pretty good summary of Train Sim World... At least the original Train Simulator just got an update every year, without needing an entirely new game. I wish more companies would stop doing this "buy a whole new game every year at huge cost" style approach.

    I was lucky enough to travel on two of the 2+2 sets with full sized tables earlier in the week from Ashford to Folkestone and back and was quite impressed with them - certainly far better than the units on the King's Lynn line the week before - both can be said to be longer distance commuter services.

    Unless cost was an issue, I'd probably just take the Javelins on the High Speed sections. edit: Given that the HS1 option was only £2.50 more than this one, and was about 30 minutes quicker, then yes, I would go with the HS1 option.

    Looks like you lucked out with this particular Class 375/9. When I did my day trip from Kenton to the Romney,Hythe and Dymchurch railway, I travelled both ways between St.Pancras and Folkestone General on a Javelin unit. I noted (with some alarm) that the bays of four in the end coach of your train lined up exactly as most folk would hate with a pillar adjacent the table instead of a proper window view. Thankfully, the bays lined up properly in other coaches. I've finally caught up with your most recent presentation, so it's been a great lazy day for this retired gent. Best wishes for your next presentation.🙂

    Hi Dylan, Id just like to talk about the overall video, I just want to mention that i use these trains quite often to go to places from Folkestone central. Firstly from the title "slow and disappointing alternative to the javelin" - You paid £7.25 for an advance single ticket which in my opinion is fantastic from dover to waterloo even the non-railcard option of £11, As you mentioned in your video hs1 is 30 minutes faster, that is true 100% but some people will pay that extra to get there quicker or they need to go to St Pancras for a reason but then if you needed to go to waterloo from St Pancras you would then need the tube which would add on to the £7.25. Secondly I would've appreciated if you had compared/reviewed other ticket types within this journey to get another persons point of view (only because you made a point of view from yourself), such as me paying a same day ticket from Folkestone to Ashford costs £9.30 off peak day return (non-railcard). I understand 100% this is all from you but its just how much negativity you have put towards the class 375 when they aren't even bad trains.

    I have a choice travelling into London of HS1 or conventional to London Victoria. For me it boils down to what part of London I need. I don't think there's a lot in it and if you don't get lumbered with the 375 9s then it's a comfortable ride.

    The Class 375 Electrostar are still very nice trains since they were manufactured by Adtranz/Bombardier (now Alstom). And the Class 377/5 are also very nice which they were used on Thameslink and were replaced by the Class 700. I have been on the Class 375 couple times and they do look really nice in blue livery.

  • @xsentinel3044

    The 375/9s (3+2) are mostly used on this route as I believe its the busiest mainline route during peak. The 2-2 formation sets are commonly seen running to Hastings and sometimes London Charing Cross to Margate. Also during summer the 3+2 sets are commonly seen running as 12 coach sets from London Victoria to Ramsgate via Margate as they get very busy during peak and off peak. What I don’t understand is why during the last refurbishment they didn’t get plug sockets then? Anyways hope you at least enjoyed the 100mph blast between Ashford and Tonbridge, nice to finally see a review on the Southeastern Mainline.

    Just to mention some of the trains on this route are different. Often go on this line and on my last trip Sevenoaks to Folkestone and there where plugs for charging your phone. HS1 end at Ashford, from there on to Folkestone and Dover its just a normal services and runs on the main line rather than the Eurostar line. As someone else mentioned tickets on the slow trains are far cheaper than HS1. Greeting though from the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover.

    The problem with the the 375s is that they run on slow lines. Not enough of their tracks are consistantly high speed. 100mph Is rare on southeastern . But because 3rd rail sucks, the acceleration is rather poor after 80mph.

    Hey Dylan! I don't comment much but I always watch... I have a vlog planned on this train and the Javelin coming soon, in Dutch, so you aren't going to understand even a tiny bit, where I travel in the Javelin, the 375 with this 3+2 seating and the 375 with the 2+2 seating, and I have to say the 2+2 seating are MUCH nicer than the 3+2 wich is in the English loading gauge REALLY crammed. But they're allright, the Javelin is okay too but the single unit I got was a bit too tiny... :) thanks mate cheers!

    Very interesting to see this journey as it's many years since I've been to Dover, and not familiar with the 375s. Was relieved to see that the "other" unit on your train had 2+2 seats throughout; I might be showing my age but I think that a journey of 70+ miles is far too much for having to cosy up to strangers in 3+2. Other comments here give some reassurance that travel in the SouthEast isn't all that bad, though the view of the 70(?) commuter unit you passed wasn't at all encouraging.

    6:13 I don't see a point in having toilets on a regional train. Intercity probably, but not when you're travelling from Sevenoaks to London as it's very close. Southeastern have slowly been modifying their Class 375 Electrostars to have a socket at each pair of seats whilst removing the first class sections from these trains, including the 3-car units. I don't know if the high-density 375 9xx units have that modification, though. That would mean having one socket for up to 3 seats, so it probably doesn't work with these units.

    For such a, normally, high density service, I think the government should be looking at a total refurbishment and realignment of the line infrastructure to allow for wider loading guage of rolling stock, as in continental Europe, to make it a little more comfortable to travel in a 3+2 seating configuration. This should also be looked at with other high density and frequent use corridors in the UK., i.e., Manchester / Leeds. etc. Great vlog, though. 😊.

    The only time i'd take the 375s over a Javelin is for London - Medway Journeys, as the difference is not much (only 7-8 mins) for a decent saving in Money, plus I find Victoria much more convinent than St Pancras as well.

  • @imsbvs
    @imsbvs11 ай бұрын

    I much prefer the rolling stock with 2+2 seating, and a proper full size table. These run from Dover via Canterbury to Medway then on to London Victoria, joining (together to form longer trains) at Faversham with services from Whistable & Margate/Ramsgate etc. As for journey speed, the Javelins via Ashford are quicker, but going in the other direction the Javelins via Ramsgate on to Margate/Whistable and Medway then St Pancras are slighly slower in journey time, with an intermediate cost price. Ultimately, if price is what matters use the older class 375 services, but if speed matters use the Javelins. But, there is another consideration too, based on which station in London is more convenient, for South London, Victoria, Waterloo, Charing Cross & London Bridge then use the services seen today, but for Stratford and St Pancras the Javelins will be more convenient. To conclude, lots of considerations and no bad options. Dylan's headline is a little unfair.

    7:08 Nice little jab against Dovetail Games and their Train Sim World lineup of games! I have Train Simulator Classic, which will be fine for what I need. There are still many routes/locos/trains that I need to buy anyways, so that'll keep me going. 7:32 1.0 - 2.0 Mbps isn't much nowadays, but as you say, is far better than a lot of other rail operators will give you. There are some operators that will easily give you < 0.5Mbps and some where you're very fortunate to even get a connection.
