Perfect I’ve found the correct way of doing the slope bind off. Other tutorials have the slipped stitch at the end of the alternate row very loose so it doesn’t sit well but yours doesn’t ...thank you!

Well . . . it's just one way to handle step bind-offs but I think it's a great tool to have in ones knitting tool bag.

Hi Cheryl! I am working on a sweater and I want to do the short row bind off at the shoulders. I understand how to do the front of the sweater, but I am having a hard time with the back of the sweater. the pattern says to bind off 10 stitches the next 4 rows then bind off 10 stitches the next 2 rows and then bind off 54 sts for the back of the neck. How do I use the short row bind off for the back?

shanazshariff Yes. Unless there is something unusual in the shaping that I'm missing. (I don't know what 'pedicure socks' are).

Pedicure socks are open toe socks so you can show off your pedicure!!! Socks are knitted in the round like a typical socks pattern, however instead of knitting all the way to the toes instructions state to bind off so the toes remain exposed. My question is do I follow the same instructions when binding off in the round or does the bind off have to be modified?

Also how do you know how many you can choose to bind off like you did on the 6 you bound off instead of 10? You're welcome. There are so many different techniques in knitting, many types of cast-ons for example. The more you know, the more confident you will grow in adapting patterns to your preferred methods. As for the number of stitches to bind off, your pattern will generally tell you. I just made up some numbers for my video prop.

Also since I am such a visual learner, do you have any CD's I can purchase? I've never done well with figuring out stitches in a book either in crocheting or knitting.

I do have a flash-drive product for machine knitters but I'm moving away from having to ship any kind of physical product. When the last of the current printing of my books are gone, I'll go to print on demand.

+leomerly I'm not sure that I understand the question entirely but let's see if this makes sense. And I'm not sure which video you're referring to with the back of a sweater. I have several but in general I bind off the back of the neck of all adult sweaters with a regular, passover bind off. I do not bind off the back necks of children's sweaters unless it's a cardigan. I also usually make the back, then front of a sweater, then use a 3-needle bind-off for the shoulders. That joins them and binds them off at the same time. Does that help?

what I don't understand how to do is when I have finished the right side of the collar and I try to pick up from the initial bind off stitches on the left and do the other side, It just ends up as a mess for me when I try, somehow I need to integrate both new yarn into the jumper and somehow pick up a stitch from the bind off, not sure if I should also start by purling across to pick up the bind off stitch, haha, too hard for me, oh well...

+Knitting with Cheryl Brunette Im sorry for confusing you Cheryl, I will try to be clearer, I am doing a simple round neck jumper, if I try a sloped bind off for the neck line I will need to go to to both the right and left of the centre bind off. Not sure how to approach it. I can do one side like in your video but not the other side, not sure how to pick up and go the other way, Im just starting to learn how to knit, so this is all new to me. Perhaps I should just do decreases instead to form the neck line and pick up the stitches like your Sweater Finishing video. Thank you for contributing your knowledge, you have been very helpful. I understand how you are binding off. It's simple, right? I'm in the process of binding off stitches to shape the shoulder for the back piece. The instructions say in "Love of Knitting" Summer 2016 issues -- Chloe Cardigan on page 52: "Shape Shoulders: BO 6 sts at beg of next 6 roows, then BO 6 sts at beg of foll 2 rows -- 41 sts remain" What would be the best way to BO these stitches evenly for the back piece at the shoulders? How could I divide up the BO's? BO 3 sts each side? I'm at a stand still until I get this resolved.

Hi Christy. I didn't quite understand this question so I sort of left it hanging. I don't know the pattern and I don't have this issue. I would have to check all the numbers to make sure they made sense. Another thing I don't know it the pattern stitch of the sweater, because that could change things. And you're right to be confused. That pattern language is not clear. What does "then BO 6 sts at beg of foll 2 rows" mean? That you are to do some plain rows between the bind off rows? I suggest you contact the magazine and/or designer and ask this question. Sorry it took forever to respond. Life. Like everyone's, mine's full.

I'm trying to pull people into one place so that I can be more efficient at answering questions and designing programming. I'm not sure what your exact problem is.. Have you watched the sweater finishing series? I address putting raglans together there. You just use a regular mattress stitch and do the yoke first. Are you talking about doing them in the round? And sorry that I lost that you requested a video before. I'm in too many places what with Facebook and here and Ravelry . . . I can't keep all of it straight but the survey is really concentrated and straightforward (and short). I'm tracking that better.

Honestly Berni, I don't remember. I've been at this teaching knitting business off and on for over 30 years and can't remember all the articles I've written and videos I've made. And this is a great suggestion because often I want a simple written form. This is a very large question hanan. Your shaping depends on the size of sweater and depth and width of the opening. Then there are many ways to finish it. The Russian video you posted is only one way to finish the opening and she doesn't show you how to shape it, though it is very handsome.
