In Western Astrology the Zodiac is, in fact, the Ecliptic itself DIVIDED into 12 stripes of 30° each, not the constellations. What happens is that, when the system was created somewhere between the sumerian and greek world, they marked 12 constelations that did match those zones by most of their length. However, movement has made them to dislocate in relation to the zodiac, so the Sun position in the zodiac for each month is no longer equal for the constellations as it is for the ecliptc division, wich is fixed. Example, the Sun in Saggitarius in thsi video, was, in fact, a sun in Scorpion. And Ophiocus, altougj very close to the ecliptic in celestialatitude, IS NOT A ZODIACAL parameter. As for what ASTROLOGY did was to observe the SYMBOLIC QUALITY of the position and relations between the zones, stars and planets and find its match to EARTHLY REALITIES and PHENOMENS, like the seasons for rain, for cultivation, and based on that "predict" events and tendencies. All the world can be anylised by the symbolic point of view, wich is the way of finding the essence that every being has in common with each other. Example: lions, kings, gold and the Sun have all a MEANING RESEMBLANCE, bevause they belong to the same CATEGORY of beings (as its called in Philosophy). In this case they point towards LEADERSHIP, ROYALTY, POWER, AUTORITY and GLORY. The moon, a mother, silver, jasmine, the sea and the fertile cycle are conected by the same meanings: mothership, feminity, tenderness, night, fertility and life. Also the moon has close resemblance to the fertile cycle because both are about WAXING and FADING. (As you can see its not about INFLUENCES, or MYSTICAL POWERS or MAGIC, because those things dont exist. Planets dont truly emanate forces, we can only talk on those terms as a figure of languagw. Its all about MAPING THE MEANINGS of the world bevause they exist and they match. But we live in a society that has a mediocre poetic spirit, they think beauty, art, poetry andphilosphy it is useless and primitive. People cant see that the world makes sense). ASTROLOGY IS ntr about MAGIC and superstition, altough this application is possible, as always with Magic anything can be used, since random runes and the alphabet to bird bones and viscera. Its about seeing the qualities of time and seen when certain events arwore likely to happen: war, earthquakes, marriages, birth, death and so on. Peolle dont get ir naturaly because we live in a SCIENTIFICIST SOCIETY, that cant understand the real world by other angles outside empirical knowledge, wich is always little and limited. And those aho practi e adtrology today do so in a mysticist way, by influence of the New Age and many esoteric movements. Nevertheless, astrology was always the base of any civilization. Time is not equall by each minute it passes, it has QUALITATIVE properties wich FAVOURS and DISFAVOUR certain actions and events. Another curious note for the interested: Astrology was always an technique based on the VISUAL aspect of the sky, so we always use 7 planets (seven is symbolic for everything that exists in the material world, ots totality: we see them in the 7 notes of the musical scale, on the seven deadly sins and capital virtues, the seven colours of the rainbow, it always represents all the parts of the human nature) and the term planet goes for WANDERING, or "ERRANDING", because, compared to the Sun, the 7 planets dont have a constant route in the sky. And the seven are Saturn, Juoiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon. The criteria was for VISIBLE BODIES in the sky, not for what is a planet on the physical point if view. Thats why Pluto, Uranus and Neptune are nor featured as planets, they are used as Fixed Stars (have the same value as constelations). I hope i was able to shed some light in a very confusing topic and one that is always DOWNLOOKED with PREJUDICE and missunderstanding. Your channel is great, by the way. 😊

How do I track the ecliptic of the sun from the vernal equinox until the next vernal equinox-the days it takes the sun to track through each constellation beginning with the constellation after the vernal equinox?

Just one question, how did the ancient astrologers or astronomers knew what constellation lied behind the sun in a particular month? Of course this is way easier with Stellarium without the atmosphere but how did they determine this during daytime?

They noticed the returning constellations over the course of a year and were able to infer what constellation the sun and planets were in by noticing the “previous” constellation in the East before sunrise. Over time they were able to map the Suns path.

If science says Earth revolves around the Sun and the Sun revolves around the center of the galaxy at 828,000 km/h, does this mean all of the zodiac constellations also come along with us or we still do see them in the background despite all the speed and revolving? Or how does this all play when we see always these same constellations every year at the same months? How is this possible when according to science the Sun takes about 230 millions years to complete a full circle around the center of the galaxy?

Thank you for this, Lauch Pad Astronomy. A further question. I'm still perplexed as to how human beings figured out which zodiac the sun is in when no stars are visible when the sun's out. And when the sun is not visible you have different constellation / zodiac patterns that the sun clearly can't be in. Some process of elimination and deduction, perhaps? Would love to see a demo on how this works. Anyway, the current video was a wonderful beginning in understanding some of this.

The entire celestial sphere was precisely mapped by recording the cycle of constellations over longer periods. By calculating the time and distance between what can be seen (at night/early morning, to when the sun actually rises, it's position can be determined very accurately. Over a long period of time, this along with larger cycles of time (such as ages & great year) could be calculated 👍🏻

I suppose you would be able to see the stars offuscated by the sun during the nights of the other half of the year. I think The “inclination” of the ecliptic could be noticed by the shadows during noon every day through the year. And then you have the necessary to make the elimination game you mentioned. But I guess they would have to assume the earth revolves around the sun? Not sure..
