    I'm in the same boat my friend! Well, the waiting part that is; I haven't gotten to play SoaSE2 yet. Sins of a Solar Empire was/is my favourite RTX/4X. It combined RTS and 4X elements so very well. And the ship design, holy shit! The Advent with their giant angel-esque Titans attacking with lasers from their halo, suppressing fire from the edges of their wings, mind-controlling culture beams... I love biblically-accurate/body horror angels, and this game delivers so, so well. I haven't been this excited for a game release in years!

    15 years of slightly better graphics and everything being absolutely identical or worse? And having a terrible botched early launch? This is not looking well at all. There doesnt seem to be a single new mechanic or unit.

    Prav did not explain an amazing ability this game has: When you select a control group (fleet), there is a ship construction tab at the bottom. You can order ships to be constructed from there, and then, they will automatically fly to that group AND automatically add themselves to that group. This gets rid of 80% of the roping and selecting usual in RTS games.

    Seems like the heart of Sins is still there. More Updated UI is the most important thing for me. The moving systems are interesting, but don´t know if I like it yet. But all in all, I do like what I see here, a little bit streamlined it seems, but in the case of Sins that´s a good thing^^ My only hope is that non capital ships are a bit cheaper. It often felt like a waste of money to buy non capital ships (except colony ships) as long as you can build more capitals

    Pravus, could you do a test match on a custom map with something like 200 planets in it? My friends and I used to play Sins Rebellion on maps of that scale as it was much more fun and tactical. The problem always became lag, where 1 second in game was around 30 seconds of real time. It was still enjoyable to do, just took a long time. I would really like to hear if the engine has been improved enough in multithreading to better handle massive maps like that, or if we have actually had a regression and can no longer even generate maps so large :( While we do have better use of more cores, we also have a lot more simulations going on now with individual missiles being tracked and simulated, so the load is far higher than before.

    I feel like the people that show up to comment are the folks that are not true fans. Rebellion has a 93-94% rating in its current state and while ridiculous, they’re asking for $40. The game is already excellent whether you like it or not. The only major things lacking were 64 bit support due to the engine, which severely cripples long term play even with modern processors. And a graphics overhaul. The devs have supported rebellion over its entire lifespan which almost no one does for non live service games. We’re talking over 10 years. To even just remaster it in a new engine is worth paying to further support them. So while those that maybe didn’t quite understand the original or were not particularly good at it, as the mechanics of the game do make it harder than something like a Red Alert RTS, I understand if you’re hoping for a new game. But I’d be willing to bet, most people that play this game are RTS fans or space fans that still play Rebellion. And one would hope that’s who this game is being catered to, which seeing the old solid foundation with some new changes that keep most of the original game intact, is what we love to see. My most honest opinion of those that are complaining it’s not a new game and negatively inferring its sins 1.5 (not saying that’s a bad thing to others) are the people we can thank for games like Battlefield 2, 3, 4 being excellent only to turn into Battlefield 2042, a piece of hot garbage that needs to sell for under $10 to get anyone to keep playing it, and the game is now a fast paced COD alternative. Far far far from its original idea and design and is literally the worst rated battlefield. But the same folks got the new stuff, new gameplay, new graphics, and a trash game. No thanks.

    Been casually reading the dev diaries and it seems there have been made massive improvements to economy, ship battles, tech trees, etc. Also a bit more variety in factions. I believe most of the vasari rebel ships and stations are mobile for example … so I’m cautiously holding out hope it is a little more than 1.5 as they seem to be rebuilding the game from the ground up.

  • @mattvmani

    @mattvmani

    Ай бұрын

    In any case, so many people always want these new games thinking you can just remake a game entirely without in many cases fundamentally destroying what everyone loved about the first. A radical departure for those few clamoring for new would ruin it. Rebellion has extremely positive reviews across the board despite any few negatives. There’s no need to change much. No offense to those that want a whole new game, sins 1.5 would be fine with its fans. The previous games lacked long term playability due to performance issues and the graphics have needed an overhaul forever. Some new items are certainly welcome but the original is near perfect but sadly had 32 bit limitations for long term play. 64 bit and new graphics alone is easily worth it. Plus for anyone that doesn’t know, the devs have still supported this game over all the years it’s been out. Not many even do that. They deserve the support from its fans.

I have also seen on Stardock's own Sins 2 Feature video that you can manually rotate your planetary defenses to face different directions to meet new threats. This planetary defenses rotation seems to take time so if you are caught off guard your defenses can be avoided but now you have the ability to meet such threats if you are prepared. I don't know if the planetary defense rotation is in the game right now as of yet as I haven't seen enough gameplay to know but the features video at least promises such for the eventual full release.
