The Sinister Case Of Hannah Clarke

Hannah Clarke, a thirty-one-year-old mother of three, a strong, independent woman who lived life to the full, was to have that life cut very short by the actions of one selfish individual who believed they were dominant and superior. Hannah Clarke would destroy that person’s narrow-minded assumptions at great personal cost to herself.

@mpmikeb1290 Not always. I've worked with domestic abusers before and there aren't always signs. Sometimes controlling behaviour can be masked as just being attentive and caring. Love bombing can completely mask someone who is incredibly dangerous. Sometimes abusers are triggered by pregnancy, jealousy, job loss, alcohol and mental health and these things aren't always apparent immediately. Also you may not be able to identify controlling or abusive behaviour. You may have also grown up in an environment where domestic abuse was the norm. Abuse can be financial as well as physical, sexual or physical. It doesn't look the same in every relationship. A lot of the abusers I worked with presented themselves as calm, caring individuals who get on well with others. You'd only know how dangerous they were from their previous convictions and a police background check. I had one offender that murdered 1 person & tried to kill his wife and children when he became psychotic. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia afterwards.

The problem is no one cares to see the system work hard and help those trapped in abusive cases. Take the Joshua Powell case where the cps worked to reunite the murderous father with his deeply neglectful ways to his children. People wrongly said it was because he was a man. No. It was because the law rather a abuser get custody of his kids than keep them safe. Even now abusive parents get more rights against a good parent who was victimized. There are no options to help protect victims of abuse. None at all. And protective orders are only works against people with sanity. Abusers who are insane and out of control won’t respect a piece of paper because their brain doesn’t have control. There are NO HELP for abuse victims at all

Hannah already knew her chosen man who had an ex-wife, and even lived with his ex-wife but she really wanted him. Just to have a muscular guy beside him probably made her feel proud somehow. But I don't really see her as a good mother since she let her kids be abused by the father regularly and often excused his behavior. Despite already have 3 children, she's one of those woman who always thinks about herself ie her life, her man, her husband, instead of thinking - I'm a mother. Probably why so many children grew up in such a broken household with traumatic memories of witnessing their parents abusive and toxic relationship. I wonder if both Hannah or her husband also grew up that way and can no longer distinguish between a good normal relationship and abusive one? 🤔

Those people who say "should have left sooner" are the people that think they understand what domestic abuse is but they have NO idea. I watched my mom go through it as a kid. Took my mom over 10 years before she took me and left. 20 years later, my mom and I were talking about it recently and she told me "I was always afraid if I left him, he'd hurt you or worse to get back at me." @@davids5006 Any your point is? Do you not understand what manipulation is? Being controlled and hurt is traumatizing, and this leads to confusion, doubts, and even self-blame. These people harass and accuse victims, which wears them down and causes despair and guilt. It damages self-worth making the person feel they have no value. Depending on the level of violence, there is massive fear in leaving. One study showed that in the worst domestic abuse cases, over 50% of women that left these relationships were injured or murdered by their ex partner. When you have kids with these abusers, it's easy to sacrifice yourself in hopes of keeping your kid safe because you know if you both leave, the abuser can use the kids to harm you...just like we saw in this video where she had to die knowing her kids died...I could go on and on. Had Hannah left, he probably would have just done this sooner. And unfortunately, domestic violence laws do almost nothing until SOMETHING happens....you'd be afraid too. That was my mom. She felt trapped and the only way to keep me safe was to just hope to keep my dad happy. I just can't believe people sit here and victim blame and shame or compare and say oh lots of people just leave. Newsflash...lots of people also DON'T leave and shaming like this is one of them reasons.

Luckily I was twice her size and she didn't use a weapon so I was not hurt. But the damage of putting up with her using the other methods described so clearly in this video was bad enough so everyone male and female keep an eye out for those signs and make plans to leave and be ready because once they realize they can't control you anymore it definitely increases the risk of them using physical violence. Obviously this clip does explain it pretty well just wanted to add my 2 cents in to reinforce it.

The rugby/league "boofhead" who's had everything since high-school handed to them on a silver platter, often allowed to get away with things that would put a normal person in jail because they have a "promising sporting career" and when things go wrong, thry have no idea how to cope and become violent. I noticed when watching the part were Hannah and her ex husband were talking together about there gym I could clear see in his eyes and expressions he was totally jealous of when she spoke cause she was clearly so much better at what she did not just in the gym. but in everyway and that angered him. In a normal relationship a good husband 😌 would simply be so proud 👏 of there wife. Instead of being jealous he could have learnt from her but with his ego and angered jealous nature that was not to be just quite the opposite. I'm a father of a 7 year old daughter and I and my partner respect each other. All ways help each other and if one knows more then another at times we learn from each other. That makes use smarter and more powerful as a couple. This was very hard to watch this. It brought tears 😢 to my eyes for Hannah and her kids. The least I can do is watch this and give my condolences 🙏 RIP HANNAH AND KIDS. Hannah gave me the strength to run and live my life. If I'd stayed, I'd have been killed. There is no doub in my mind. It's a nightmare because you think your imagining the control. I tried explaining to people and they asked if I was sleeping correctky or imagining it. I cannot fathom how weak and evil you must be as a man to act like this towards a weaker person at all, man or woman, but your own wife and children? Pure evil. Well done for having the strength to get away. I hope you are safe now. It will likely take some time to heal. Be kind to yourself.

Hannah and her children were victims of domestic violence and how you told their story , whilst incredibly heartbreaking, you gave them a voice and for that I am thankful. The very end where you described them and their final moments, telling the viewer how strong and amazing Hannah was, what a loving Mother she was until her final breath; and reminding DV victims that they have a voice, you give abused women, their children and families a voice and you made them feel they deserved to be heard. Why do women or men remain in abusive relationships for years, decades? I dated a woman that did something abusive about a week into dating. I said goodbye and moved on with life. Why do some “victims” stay so long.?

@@sirvilhelmofyonderland it’s really long, but if u want to understand please read……because often times many don’t know any better. They’ve never been in that particular situation before, so their lack of experience is all the ammo someone else could need. Their naivety leads to their demise. The aggressor will often “lovebomb” the victim after the abuse. Gifts, apologies, promises never to do it again and they can be very convincing so then another chance is given. And the cycle repeats. Fear is another reason. Think about being terrified to the Max and multiply that by millions. Often times the victims families and friends and kids are the first ones to be threatened if they choose to leave…so our fear of that…they stay. Then you have reverse psychology where the abuser manipulates the person into believing they deserved it and it’s ALL their fault… u get my point? It’s sooooo many reasons. And then the police are no help at all. When restraining orders are filed and then violated, the police never intervene until someone is severely hurt or dead.

@@keluvnme I appreciate the response. Do some victims stay because they were abused as kids? Perhaps by someone they loved? They get normalized to abuse? It’s a complex issue. Staying with an abuser in no way makes it ok.

@@sirvilhelmofyonderlandI can’t fully say for sure. But here is my guess, it seemed like the abuser, I can’t remember his name. (I’m tired after working) was a insensitive jerk. How bad? Enough that Hanna and her family noticed and didn’t like it. He was at least self absorbed, insensitive, a jerk probably overly boastful and over confident yet was insecure and anti women. His personality changed either over time or becaue of the steroids which steroids will make the person act up, and be way too aggressive. Then Hanna stays because the change is slow and gradual or she loves him and misses the old (false) self. Add in kids and she hopes they can stay as a family. He seem to change after they had kids so he probably was hiding his true self but not enough because people saw it. He just wasn’t capable of love at all because children require love and his narc self couldn’t handle not being in the spotlight. Then it became too late for Hanna to safely get out because this guy has become so delusional from reality and drugs. I think she stayed because at first it wasn’t bad and it gradually got worse then extreme but by that point he’s too fixated at her. She never saw herself as a victim so she didn’t see the warning flags. She probably thought she was endanger and not her kids. The fact she didn’t see the danger and underestimated him but he was so insane he was a danger to anyone he got closed to

@@sirvilhelmofyonderland A LOT of kids are abused since a lot are in poverty especially in the USA where it costs tens of thousands to be born and die, not to mention everything in the middle. When you are abused all your life, you won't know the difference when another abuser comes along, it's all we know. This family was just too emotionally and mentally weak to stand up to an abuser. Parents should have never should have left her be with him, they seem like nice people just too nice and sweet for their own daughters survival unfortunately.

It’s the same laws in the US with domestic abuse and also with stalking. Nothing can be done until something physical happens, crazy. The worst part of this case is the fact that her last minutes on earth were in mind numbing pain, knowing her children were dying the same painful way and that devil made it out.

I remember when this horrific crime happened, what made it worse was the blatant victim-blaming..Yes, you heard it..some people ( including A POLICE OFFICER ) tried to suggest Hannah was somehow to blame for this!! That she must have "pushed him to behave like this" nothing could be further from the truth! The guy was rotten to the core, end of story. Poor Hannah, and those poor babies . @@sirvilhelmofyonderland usually abusers spend years psychologically and emotionally manipulating their victims. Can be financial too. They degrade their self esteem, they might threaten to kill themselves or threaten to fight for custody of the kids etc That’s why most of them don’t leave. Sometimes there are times they do leave and the abusers end up convincing them to get back together. Also the most dangerous time is actually when they do leave!! That’s why you can’t just up and leave there are so many things to plan and prepare before you go. To try to make yourself safe so you don’t end up getting stalked, harassed, assaulted or killed

@@sirvilhelmofyonderland that's good for you but in the same train of thought; individuals who are raised in two parent households become some of the most prolific serial criminals of all times. All manner of crimes. I venture to say that Piece of crap may have actually been decent before the steroid use and some women believe they can change their partner's disposition by having children. Hannah was by all accounts a bright woman, her justification was that he'd never full bore physically abuse their children.

I was told to get a restraining order. I told the police that that would be equivalent to waving a red flag at a bull. NO ONE tells my ex what he can and can't do. For the sake of my kids I went along with his demands and tried to keep the peace while behind the scenes I managed to make a plan to escape from him. I had the support of family and friends and I also have to acknowledge that God kept us safe and gave me wisdom and insight on how to handle the situation. When I left people thought I was relieved. In actual fact I felt guilty for leaving and was fearful of retribution that could take place. I never slept much those first few months and would wake up in a cold sweat thinking that I could hear someone breaking in. My son and I were diagnosed with PTSD and had to go onto meds for severe anxiety. In the beginning he swept me off my feet, treated me like a princess I thought that was the real him for years. When the mask began to slip I would always hear those words "I'm sorry baby, but you just make me so angry. You make me act like that" I thought if I could just be a better wife, if I could just make him love me... Thats what Narcissists do. You don't even realize what you are experiencing is abuse. You are brainwashed into thinking that YOU are the problem, thats why so many of us don't leave. We always want to believe that there is hope things will change, that there is good in people. I made my decision to leave when I saw him turn his abuse towards the kids as they got older. I chose to marry him, they didn't. Also I came across an article a brave women had written explaining her exact same experience. It totally opened my eyes. Once you know the truth you can't unsee it.
