First transmitted 20 February 2002, this story is based on a reference from Doyle's short story "The Problem of Thor Bridge": "Among these unfinished tales is that of Mr. James Phillimore, who, stepping back into his own house to get his umbrella, was never more seen in this world." After years of apparent inactivity, master cat-burglar "The Ghost" is back with a series of thefts.

In the Thor Bridge story there is a reference to a tin dispatch box in the vaults of the Cox and Co. Bank at Charing Cross in London, where Dr. Watson kept the papers concerning some of Holmes' unsolved or unfinished cases.

This one wasn’t of the same standard. Too melodramatic

But the Victorian theatre-going public loved a good over-the-top melodrama 😊

Sometimes wonder why folk feel the need to thumbsdown? I'll risk answering my own question and say it's because they can, it's their prerogative I s'pose. Personally, I really enjoyed the humour between Holmes & Watson. Toyah is great , as are the whole cast. Love the music too.

Another story written by a BBC writer and not Conan Doyle. Takes about 4-5 minutes to recognize the incongruities. Even the excellent actors dont compensate for the characterizations, style, story elements, and concerns that weren't in Conan Doyle. Just to complain more, another such "original" Holmes story was so lazily written that when Watson asked how Holmes had deduced some circumstance, "Watson" then continued "Oh never mind Holmes. I know your methods". Sigh nevertheless, thanks for taking the time and effort to post this.

You read but don’t comprehend. You also should know by the credits it isn’t an original. Plus you know nothing of the original stories.
