    Started playing Sims 4 a few months ago, and it felt so goddamn empty. Now have all the DLC(and no dont worry, I didnt give EA a dime), and it feels much better, but also so bloated. Sims 1-3 has the perfect balance of base game design, and DLCs that add content with value.

    The most unrealistic thing about The Sims isn’t the Simlish, the magic, the supernatural, the lightspeed delivery/building services, or even the buying and moving into your property *before* it exists… …it’s all these people persistently ringing my doorbell everyday, desperately trying to meet me so I can acknowledge and/or validate their existence. Technically, even this isn't "base" Sims 4. Even without all the DLCs, you're still playing with 8 years worth of content updates. Toddlers, ghosts, aliens, pools, basements, terrain tools, ponds, vehicles, burglars, police, firefighters, restaurants, playgrounds, hospitals, schools, gender customization, sim favorites, lots of create-a-sim skin tones/hair colors/makeup/etc., lot traits, tons of careers, some emotions/aspirations/traits, and even that stupid Wabbit Tablet you gave Elon weren't in the game at launch. To this day, it's missing hundreds of things that were staples of previous games. And at launch, like all EA games, it was a buggy mess that was even activating anti-piracy measures on legit copies (mine included), which made your $60 game unplayable for weeks after you bought it. Sims 4 was the worst of the series by far, and even now it only barely ekes out third place out of the four main entries in the series.

  • @HeresorLegacy

    @HeresorLegacy

    The pirated copy during the closed beta was better than the basegame, because EA retroactively locked content that was present in the beta behind DLC walls. So even after release the pirated version had more content than the legit copy, and ran better.

    That is very subjective. Now, I'd say it's the 2nd best out of the series. Sims 2 is best for its amazing wants/fears system, then the sims 4. The sims 3 is massively overhyped, sure it has a lot of content but the majority of that content is boring and shallow. The only good difference between the sims 3 and 4 is that the sims 3 has an open world and so much traits, but that's at the cost of the lag. In sunset valley, there isn't really much to do. All the town square lots are rabbitholes. What is fun about waiting for your sims to come out of the cinema? And the vast majority of the countryside in sunset valley has nothing in it Don't get me wrong, the sims 3 is a way more ambitious game with lots of content, but it doesn't shine in actually making its content fun in any way. The sims 4 while less ambitious, its smaller amount of content is way more in depth, and I care more about that. PS: yes the sims 3 has those nice small details everyone likes to laugh at the sims 4 not having, but that is just a cosmetic thing. People laugh at people who like the sims 4 for caring about graphics when that's just as cosmetic and useless as those small details. They both make the world seem more alive

    The emotions are kinda genius, in theory. A sim has a trait that makes them happy when they do a thing, this means they autonomously do said thing and become happy, leading to doing happy interactions with other sims thus changing how other sims react to them. In theory, it should make for far more interesting conversations and relationships. In practice however, that never gets to happen. Autonomy is so broken, sims never really do things that would have a meaningful effect on others. Traits have too little impact to actually define personalities and interactions. And because the individual moodlets work on a very simple addition system, even if the above was not the case it still wouldn't matter. There exists a variety of mods to address this, and honestly with better autonomy and trait balance the game becomes a lot more interactive and engaging. The fact that these are not something that they added to the game in the 8 years it's been out for is shocking. There have been mods to do this since 2014!

    the sims 4 at launch didnt even have pools and as a result of this no swimwear either, it was severely lacking in basic stuff. it also didnt have ghosts, so people died and then disappeared forever. also didnt have toddlers, so sims would age from a tiny newborn baby striaght into a grown child, it was very upsetting lol. there were no basements, terrain tools, didnt have the moveobjects cheat, no family tree menu and so much more. the base game has been improved since then but honestly i would look at that stuff as bare minimum and not further "improvments". the most exciting stuff u can do in basegame is probably get ur gardening skill up, get a cowplant, possibly feed the cowplant other sims, have kids and get married, maybe cheat on their partners. Others set up challenges where they try to have 100 babies or try to sleep with every sim in the game, its up to u what u prefer. theres definitely stuff to do in basegame ts4 but u really gotta look for something to do, instead of expecting the game to serve it to u, if that makes any sense.

    I’ve always hated the Sims 4 base game. Some of the DLC are understandable why they’d be DLC, such as magic and ghosts, but why did they have to have pets, toddlers, and even SEASONS as DLC? The story behind The Sims 4 is actually really interesting. It was scavenged from a cancelled online Sims game called The Sims Olympus. After Sim City 2013 was so poorly received being an online only game they scrapped the entire online idea and refit the game as a singleplayer one. That's why the game is far more restrictive than The Sims 3 and the content so severely stripped down compared to the old games. Many features such as an entire neighborhood you can walk around were taken away in favor of just having instanced properties you could travel to and from. Whats more interesting is a lot of the framework for an online game is still there. EA is even considering getting Maxis to readd in some of the multiplayer elements into it.

The Sims 4 *technically* had more skin tone options than the Sims 3 - the former had 18 options upon release while the latter had only 6 option upon release - but the Sims 3 had sliders so in reality the latter had a *lot* more skin tone variety than the Sims 4. I will say they did go above and beyond when they finally did rectify the issue, adding *144* tones, each with their own sliders, but still, it was kinda silly that the Sims 3 had more skin tone variety on release than the Sims 4 initially did.

    There's actually an interesting story about why sims 4 is really so stripped down, you can find videos about it, it's not just because they're mining for DLC What really happened is that sims 4 was originally meant to be an always online affair, kinda mmoish, a huge multiplayer focus. You know how EA love their Games as a Service nonsense. But when they tried to do that with the newest Sim City there was an enormous backlash, everyone hated that game for its always online "features" so they had to totally scrap almost the entire game really close to release. That's why the mechanics you see fleshed out are the ones that they could salvage because they would have worked the same way online. Create a Sim, Build Mode, those are the ones that clearly had a lot put into them cause they were already finalized for the online game. But that's why everything else relating to the single player world was basically nonexistent, cause they just didn't have the time to rework things like the careers, the worlds, etc for a single player build That's not to say that EA isn't moneygrubbing and constantly mining for that sweet sweet dlc cash, but it makes sense at least why it was so content sparce on release

    That's understandable but the game shouldn't have been released and that state. That's where the greed comes in. They could have postponed the release but they didn't. They could have released free upgrades as they built on the core to make up for the fact the game didn't have features in prior base games. They didn't. It's a cash grab.

    The twin doors idea reminds me of the Shivering Isles. I chose mania on my first playthrough, it's so pretty there, and it suits because I'm a bit of a mad artist myself. Although if I were a Sim, I'd go through the big black ominous looking door because it looks sick as. Thank you for taking the time to showcase the features of the Sims four and three, even if it nearly broke the bank. You're braver than I am. I like to take care of my Sims as well, I made a whole bunch of them expecting not to care about them, they were to just meant to act as background noise for my main character, but I ended up caring for each and every one of them. I can't be a cruel overlord if I tried, wouldn't make the bootlace of one. I honestly love watching your channel no matter what game you play. You always make decent and entertaining videos. I've been an elder scrolls fan since I was introduced to Morrowind when I was eleven, and I only recently started playing the Sims two. I'm excited to see more videos you make about these games. It's cool that you showcase some of the older games out there too, I remember playing some of them when I was growing up, and others are completely new to me but it's great to have a look see. Thank you again, oh and the Dagoth Ur video still has me in stitches. There were so many! I'll never forget the sound of them all attempting to talk at the same time.

    And this is precisely why you should just buy the base game and then pirate one of those "Sims 4 + All DLC" packs and play that instead without a modicum of guilt. It's clear that a vast majority of the stuff found in DLCs should have been in the base game, but was ripped out and forced into DLC packs for money money money, ma boy. 🦀 And what worries me is that EA has said that Sims 5 will be "including more online features, but not multiplayer", so you can be absolutely certain we will see a return of the Sims 3 system of SimPoints and those horribly greedy and egregious ingame store advertisements in CAS mode and Build mode even if you spend 999 euros on all possible DLC. 😕

    Build mode and create a sim basically is what makes the base game interesting. But the game play mode depressing. Just imagine how sad the game was when I started playing in 2014. I played the sims since the first sims. Then 2014 sims 4 had no pools, no basements, no terrain tools, no toddlers. The game is still missing some NPCs like burglars. There is no playable in cars. Even sims 1 had cars that would pick you up. Sims 2 added driverable cars with DLC. Cars in Sims 2 and 3 changed as the more successful you got in your job. Sims 3 just had playable cars in the base game. As far as the world you're in yes you're in a neighborhood that's just for building in. The base game with two worlds Willow Creek and Oasis springs.
