Sims 1 had that difficulty curve that other sims games haven't really achieved, even with mods. It's great for chaotic playthroughs

I think of the original Sims as an actual strategy game where you have to balance work, free time, friendships, skill building, etc- and if you slip up and begin to lose a family friend, or you lose track of when you can take a day off work, or a disaster happens like fire, you have to get things in order again before it all goes to hell. The newer games, especially sims 4, feel a lot more like dollhouse simulators where the focus is building your own story. not that that's a bad thing- lots of games are relaxing and low in difficulty but still engaging, like animal crossing. But sometimes i miss the concept of a difficult, strategic life sim as opposed to treating sims like dolls. Furthermore, sometimes sims 4 likes to *pretend* it has difficulty when really it just has tedious tasks, ie the strangerville quest. Meanwhile The Sims on console and Bustin' Out have genuinely engaging and fun story modes

@@sarazack6256 agree. i feel like sims 1 actually had gameplay and there is direction. they made the game fun and frustrating/hard because thats a game. it's fun and frustrating because you have to pass levels and things. where as sims 4 is more like dollhouse and building your own story and there is no direction

Mickey’s early game was unironically the perfect analogy for gambling addiction. Working your best, barely able to live - experiencing gruelling pain to slowly build a home. But things collapse, left in squalor as you descend into just getting “that one hit.” Gambling your life away for just one lucky break from a genie that just takes, takes and leaves you destitute. This is actually pretty doable. Here are the steps: 1. Wait for a newspaper to be delivered 2. Get a job in military. Do not settle for anything else, because the other jobs don't pay enough 3. Greet a Sim that comes to your lot and socialize with them as much as possible before they have to leave. Try to make friends, if you can. 4. Read the newspaper as much as you can. This will sustain your fun levels for a while 5. Pass out/pee yourself. This is normal 6. Go to work 7. Come home, buy a single line of drywall, buy a phone and put it on the wall, and order pizza 8. Let Pizza Delivery Guy walk up as close as possible to receive pizza. Eat whole pizza From here, you just need to keep passing out, peeing, socializing, ordering pizza, and working until you gradually earn enough money to buy things. I recommend getting either a cheap loveseat that you can nap on, or a shower. Wait for phone calls to give you free money from the government (welfare). Eventually, you can buy enough furniture to get promoted. And voila: peak masculinity.

Fun fact! In The Sims 1 & 2, you aren't charged for the pizza until you receive the delivery. In TS2, the pizza delivery guy would just auto charge you and place the pizza on your doorstep if it wasn't accepted in time. In TS1, I feel like it was... quirkier about not having a pizza accepted? I distinctly remember there being a way to get free pizza, but that could have been via cheating.

Hey, this was actually a great video, with a lot of humor and twists. Was genuinely sad when it ended and very excited for the next iteration of J's adventure into stardom!

Imagine just meeting a new neighbor, and they pull out a puppet and chase you down with it

"Do I have to buy a door just so I can get a pizza." What a time to be alive.

"I've never had a game hate me so much, and I'm a Morrowind fan." Sir, you have no right to be that relatable.

Brings back memories of late nights playing The Sims, while listening to the first Gorillaz album. Absolutely loved this game. I had a blast messing with those poor sims, my favorite being the one where I had a lonely sim on lot with just a small shack for a home, and couch by the mailbox. He'd sit there often waiting for visitors.

So much easier to do in Sims 3. My current household started that way, used testing cheats and fixed up a starter home rather than build a home on my sims empty lot then raided the neighbors garbage cans. Got $500 from scrap, a teddy bear, and bubble bath. harvested some other sims garden for food then raided another trash can and got a space rock that was worth $1400. After that my sim explored the catacombs in hopes of a genie lamp.. got a book instead and even more need of a shower. And then built a 4 tile by 4 tile home included the cheapest table, chair, shower, toilet, ceiling light, and fridge. Outside went an easel and my sim was broke again... Now it's a year later in the game and she owns all but two of the businesses in town and is pushing 2 million simoleans. She still lives in the tiny house, has just the painting skill and being a Diva and a loner she keeps her social up by herself and her social tab is empty except for her car which she became friends with somehow. And so many genie lamps sitting on the lot from exploring the catacombs.

I did something similar with a hippie character, the difference was that he gardened and played guitar for cash. Playing for tips at the right time can rake in serious cash along with gardening.

Yesss, in Sims 3 you can literally play as a hobo without any need for money 😂 Your sim can eat free in the park because sims just litter with picnic baskets everywhere Your sim can pick up fruits and vegetables from your neighbour's gardens to eat If your sim is a werewolf/mermaid, they can eat fish raw (except for when it's winter, some water sources become frozen so there's no way to fish there) Your sim can sleep everywhere, almost no limitation. A bench in the park is the best choice probably If you have a tent you're also immune to a hot/cold weather which is the only issue in your playtrough Your sim can shower at the gym. Bathroom is never a problem, every public lot has a free toilet for your sim to use

Went and started this challenge for myself and went through some realisations. a) you got so unlucky with your first job option only giving 90$ simoleans, my first job starting pay was 240$ b) instead of eating lots of cotton candy or ordering pizza you could probably have brought cake and eaten that (lots of slices) though you'd need a table/bedside table for it vs a wall and phone (cake costs 30$ as opposed to 40$ for pizza) saves you on the cost of the phone and i suppose the table can later be used for genie lamps although i suppose when you do get lucky enough for a phone call for money it makes the phone worth it (not sure about the probability of that happening hmm ) theres also 10$ cookies but those don't do much at all. edit: nevermind both the cake and cookies can go on the ground! and the cake has 12 slices, enough to go to full hunger with only 30$ spent and no phone call required! c) wash hands wash hands wash hands. easier to buy a shower or sink vs buying a toilet as bladder can be cleaned up... and can wash hands at the magic town places too. d) reading the magazine for fun keeps you up a little bit vs complete sadness first thing i bought with my windfall of a paycheck (thank god i got lucky) was a couch to nap on and sort out comfort, meaning my character could sleep easier rather than having to wait for it to deplete the whole way otherwise man this was a series of unfortnate events huh XD so much chaotic things in the sims 1

I was going to comment about the pets being op for social but you found it out yourself. You should spam create potions with the chem set for the love potions and sell/rebuy the set if you get crappy potions (you can tell by the colour). Good way to make longish lasting friends for promotions.

Definitely one of my favourite videos, nothing like watching someone come into a challenge all bright and full of hope before slowly being crushed under the weight of bad luck. Good video 10/10 looking forward to the next instalment.
