I like to think that Peter does something similar for Meg. He may never admit it, but I think he really does love her. "Hey dad, do you keep pictures of me?" "Don't speak of such nonsense Meg, I burned them all, they were giving me nightmares." But he keeps all his pictures of her at work in his office.

I'm sure it's "was", now. Especially since both looked like the same level of suck after that crossever episode. But agreed, the old Homer was infinitely better than the fat load from the Seth McFarlane mistake.

Absolutely agreed! The main reason i love the first 12 Seasons of Simpsons the most. The others and newest are fine but, they just lack this personal and emotional touch in my opinion, still enjoyable at least. But after so many episodes it is natural that they try their best to do original moments and the more they do the more harder it gets so there is that. Not to mention the staff might have changed through the years too.

Marriage is a mutual submission between man and woman, both surrendering to God to create something far more valuable than they could've accomplish on their own. As much as modernity hates traditional gender roles, they are there because we have evolved for humdreds of thousands of years to get here. Again, mutual submission: Wife surrenders to husband, husband surrenders to wife, and both surrender to the greatness they have created together. So indeed, you're doing it for them, and that's a very admirable thing to do in a world that seems to hate love and family and instead try to replace them with lust amd selfishness. _Hug them today, as soon as you can._

Slashbash actually it's pretty dam genius of burns to give him his job back. homer is the safety inspector. if something goes wrong and it gets taken to court burns will have a easier time getting homer to take the fall than anyone else. hiring a man who knows what's he's doing and something does go wrong he could turn the tides on burns and make him rot in jail. but homer he'll do whatever will benefit him or his family. meaning if he can get a plea bargain after accidentally nuking springfield he'll do it. some other chap will do everything in their power to get off scott free.

Family Guy has had very emotional moments. Like when Meg finally stood up to her family in Seahorse Seashell Party, when Quagmire finds out his sister is physically abused by her husband in Screams of Silence, and when when Brian admits to being suicidal when he tells Stewie why he has a gun in his safe in Brian and Stewie. Although I admit that The Simpsons has had more emotional moments, I think that saying Family Guy didn't have any is unreasonable.

I'm a guy who sometimes works 12hrs from Monday to Friday (4pm to 4am and on the following week 12am to 12pm and so on.) But I too work for my family. I may not be a father, but I work for their financial stability. I work to keep my siblings, mother and father from starving. Whenever I feel like giving up, I think about what I'm fighting for in this cruel world. When I saw this episode, it made me tear up. The Character Homer is a true father. He certainly isn't the brightest and isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but he has a heart of gold. He's a hero to his family.

Sums it up perfectly. You don't have to be a genius to have love for your family. People think of Homer as a dumbass, but I see more in him. He's a loving father and a beautiful person. As you said, not the sharpest tool in the shed, but that doesn't matter - he loves his family and that's what matters most. I really miss the days when The Simpsons was aimed at the typical American family, and the hardships they face on a day to day basis. You don't see TV like this anymore.

When core staff retired/moved on from individual projects and or Futurama rightfully had an ending, truly end of a great era of tv shows. I wouldn’t say simpsons today is indicative of this tradition, nor has been for some time though. Show deserves a proper end, just disgusting commercialism at this point.

Every family man can relate to this one way or another....you’d sacrifice anything (whether it’s a fun job, hobby, or item) to support your family but it still hits you hard that you have to sacrifice something in the first place because you cannot sufficiently provide...but it’s worth it coming home after a hard day and seeing your motivation

Really get acid rain if was a coal plant, yup, but was scare in 80’s/early 90’s along with deep public misunderstanding and fear of recent events like Chernobyl. Also NOT how acid rain works xD my god be terrifying, rem as kid actually scared crap outa me until my dad had explain what really was etc ie like it’s bad but not burning jacket off your back lol Just jokes tho, real drama is Homer’s existential crisis not specifics of power plant works at. Guess least not like Joe, anal probe factory be a real bummer to work at. (Joe vs Volcano very similar thematically as well as song movie features “Company Store”, of entire generations of blue collar Americans like Homer in dead end industrial jobs. The details are wrong, but the feels are 100%.

there’s plenty of simpsons episodes with an emotional ending but this is the only one i can think of that makes me openly sob every time i see it. as much credit goes to the writers and animators for coming up with such a poignant image, i think danny elfman deserves some recognition for creating such an appropriately sweet and sentimental reprise of the theme song for this moment.
