As an experienced mechanic you cannot hurt the battery by washing it. If anything it's a good thing to wash off any residual acid and dirt that may build up on it. I have no problem with washing down an engine bay. I don't even cover the ignition system or the alternator. I will even clean them but will not put heavy pressure on those two items. Never had a problem. Ignitions, alternators, and computers I just lightly glance over with the pressure washer.

Terrible advice. Electronic components need to be protected and water should never touch the top of the engine. The coils and spark plugs are extremely sensitive to moisture. Do not spray your engine down with a pressure washer. Just clean it by hand with a towel and scrub brush. Thank me later. Compressor will help remove anything !

@@jaw707 You are absolutely wrong! Cars nowadays are very waterproof with their connections. They use a lot of whether packs on their connections. These cars are not 1960s and 70s. Like I said, I don't put extreme pressure on electronic components. I will glance over them. I've been doing it for years without any issues. All the electronics are sealed in silicone. If you have water getting in than you have other problems.

I would probably not wet my car battery just to be safe but I do cover it with a rag and take off all the dust with a brush then spray water inside the hood but not so much. Next you just wipe down all what’s wet and apply your product evenly and then yes dry it all off
@frankc1430

@@LuisGonzalez-zz1bn Why? You can douse that battery all you want and it wont do anything. It's DC. You can't hurt that battery. I've cleaned more batteries with baking soda and water then I can think of. The battery is filled with water. Only things I would spray lightly over is the alternator because it's vented and ignition coils and computers. They are all sealed pretty well but I wouldn't put any heavy pressure on them.

Is it safe to get water inside the hood? I've always been worried about that. Does the water drain out? I guess I'll just nervous about building rust. Edit.. I mean through the holes on the underside of the hood.

I have a oil leak that I'm going to get fixed. Would the orange degreaser work on the extra dirty oil on the bottom of the engine? I don't want to use water on the engine. There are wires and sensors that are everywhere. My cousin gave me his father's Camry. It's a 2000 Camry LE 4 cylinder. Or do I need something much more heavier to degrease the bottom of the engine. Please reply thanks much.

Great video! But, no nitrile gloves?? Using any harsh cleaning chemicals without hand protection can be a real problem for many folks. That’s why almost all detailing instructional videos are gloved up. They also offer a small degree of protection against cuts and scrapes. Can’t be too careful!😄

Hey Patrick! Wait until the engine is cool before detailing.
Yeah on the fence with this one. You really need to consider the make and age of car. Not knowing your jet bar pressurised water and age don't mix. Cars engine bays are designed to get you back to the dealer, covered up and a mystery. Old school isn't designed for a 21st century clean

Probably got the distributor wet. Back in the old days 1970 or so. We used to cover the distributors. We would also cover our alternators. Also back then we were spraying down our engines with gunk. Which is extremely heavy degreaser.
So I need to buy a pressure washer to use my cleaner to clean the engine 🙁

This is a good video but this engine bay has it covering sensitive components of the engine like electrical wiring and devices such as the sparkplugs. If you want good advice to avoid shorting out stuff and rust I would watch Chrisfix's video on engine bay cleaning, it's a lot more detailed, it helps people who don't have engine covers so they don't damage their engine.
