The SIMPLE SECRETS of a Fluke and Soft Jerkbaits

If you fish on Herring Lakes you 100% know how proficient you need to be with herring imitating baits! There may not be a better herring bait than the good ole fashion fluke! In this video I break down my fluke set up from the rod, reel, line, hook and bait! Plus the little modifications I do to put more fish in the boat!

    Appreciate the video very informative learning myself how to do this trying to teach my 12-year-old and nine-year-old sons I’m a big saltwater fisherman from Long Island, New York about Montauk South Bay, Port, Jeff and Fisher St., Bass. Flounder, fluke things like that move down to Florida my boys like I said how to, freshwater fish and learn myself as I go a small little lake lake oakaheelee It’s in Lake Worth Florida Greenacres area.

    I was so happy when I got my Shimano Scorpion because I can now throw the flukes weightless on a baitcaster, but now I want some lead wire. I've had times that I couldn't get bit unless I worked it as fast as I could.

    Love the lead wrap idea. I've been digging the Berkeley Jerkshad. It's a little heavier kinda like the Caffeine Shad, but it has the split tail like the Zoom.

    good stuff, Austin! Since I fish Lanier open water a lot for schoolers, this past yr been using the straight simple exposed J hook as well on spinning gear. I mean, why not?! Not around cover and better hookup ratio. No brainer! God bless!

    I have a crazy good tip for rigging a fluke that I'll show you one day. I've only showed two other people and it greatly helped them. It'll literally triple your hookup percentage and give it more action

    Can’t wait to see it. But I really like the action with how I rig them and my hook up ratio. If I didn’t I would continue to tinker.

    I want you to show me. The lake I fish is really tough. I feel the fish bump my fluke, but most of them don't get the hook.

    In Texas where I live there's no blue herring but the fluke is universal. I use mostly green pumkin and shad colors. Zoom Smokin Shad my fav. Gets bit.

    Good idea wrapping the hook to weight it. Ive been useing 3/0 weighted ewg hooks past few years. Let's me fish them faster & deep but not as low profile & sleek as your set up. I figured fishing faster they wouldn't get a good look at it? Hard to beat fluke baits. My go to's are zoom supers, caffeine shads & streakz

    I catch a lot of fish on those colors you mentioned. Both my pb largemouth and smallmouth were caught on "white pearl" flukes. Next in line is a golden shiner sluggo. Why doesn't anybody fish sluggo's anymore?

    Nice. I see you also use the chin technique to engage you reel. Disco Violet, Glimmer Blue, and Baitfish are great producers. Don't overlook the Bass Assassin 3" Baby Shad, it punches out of its weight class.

    You don't nt use a small loop knot for more action?

  • @Frostin_Austin

    @Frostin_Austin

    Ай бұрын

    The “Loop knot gives it more action” is easily one of the biggest lies in fishing. When you pull the bait either with or without a loop knot, the bait moves in linear direction with the force of the pull, the loop does not provide more action as it is compressed to a tighter oval when the bait is pulled. At the release of the taught line the loop knot gives minimal if any extra added action.
