Poles were very bigoted about religion. They fought hard against the Muslim Ottomans. But they did not fight much against Russia, Germany and Austria, which were of their own religion. They did not see them as enemies and did not care much about being divided and erased from history. It was enough for them to remain Christian.

The coolest thing is, that they arrived a bit ahead of the main force, were extremely outnumbered and said "Fuck it, they wont even see us coming". The Ottomans did not expect a relief army and were focused on the inside too much... Then the winged Husars charged down the hillside of Kahlenberg, out of the forest, crashing into a completely unprepared Ottoman siege, routing the army and capturing a shit ton of equipment. They used the metal from the abandoned ottoman cannons to make the main bell for the Stephansdom, called (Alte) Pummerin. I still hold the Winged Husars in high value for that.

You mean Murat? Ney arrived late to the battle and commanded primarily line infantry. Also these numbers for battle of Vienna are imaginary numbers, using the methodology of the time the human count in mounted divisions might have been 18k. But only about 1/4 were the actual fighters, hence the quoted “polish king leading 3k winged hussars” there was probably another 1k heavy cavalry from German states but in total battle of Vienna had at most 5K heavy cavalry charge - still a great feat. But Murat at Eylau, did 10k charge all cavalry of different sort but all were ready rumble in melee. Even back then it was super cool.
