I belong to a muralist group, we travel and paint art. About 13 years ago we went into some barrios and painted their homes and art on available walls, then we got some rich friends to donate lighting for their barrios. Magical, it was transformed! Colombia IS SAFE!
I've been visiting Cali since 2014 and never had a problem. I believe those statistics are mainly from one area of the city. I encourage people to visit Cali to see the beauty of the city and experience the culture. Just like any large city nowadays be smart and don't go looking for trouble.

Interesting fact that may surprise a lot of people is that NYC does not have a lot of murders. It’s one of the safest major cities in the US, mostly because they have very strict gun laws.

It doesn't matter to Americans, if you can't have gun you don't have freedom, anything else they don't care. Ah except maybe being the only one place on the world that has racist issues but want the world to follow their anti-racist ideas.

I grew in NYC, the city is smelly and nasty. Smell of urines in the subway and trash everywhere. Not a clean city compared to cities like Tokyo and Shanghai.

The mountain vistas were so beautiful and that cathedral was stunning! However, I too was worried about you traveling through this area of Colombia. Glad it was uneventful and the locals really seemed to be so friendly and welcoming! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Ecuador! ❤

I was just in the Valle de Cauca to paraglide and felt quite safe, but we were away from Cali.

As a German, I lived and worked as scientifico in CALI for 3 years (CIAT in Palmira). Great city but ultra dangerous at that time (1996-1999).

Nice and mature couple. You are very different somehow from younger ones. Maybe more relaxed and street savvy. And your are europeans. Very rare on our roads. From a local.
Security is very hard to judge, it’s always what if and maybe. Definitely not for the average tourist. Bogota Starbucks they rob everyone having coffee in daylight. How do you figure?
