The Sicilian Life-Style

What I most love about the Sicilian life-style is definitely spending all day outside the house, with pretty much nothing planned and many people to interact with. I always find myself either riding my scooter or walking random ways, turning left or right according to the friends I meet in the path or different kind of food attracting me its way. This morning, I was kayaking in the middle of the sea and decided to schedule a haircut with my barber friend from there, with some gossiping included in the operation. Later on, at the barbershop, I was offered a typical Sicilian drink, while meeting and chatting with many interesting people. I’m not gonna mention lunch at my parents, since that would take 5 descriptive paragraphs. Right after that, I went on a scooter ride with my daughter and we eventually decided to get gelato. 5 minutes later, we walked in the Marina, looking at waves, seagulls and pigeons, and stopped to say hi to the owner of a “bottega”. We ended up buying some outlandishly good local cheese, while Martina was generously offered, as a sample, a full cup of the freshest, most delicious ricotta on Earth. Right after the improvised cheese adventure, on our way back, the smell of fresh focaccia lured me in a family-owned bakery…where I was forced to get a snack to bring home.
As I’m writing and eating dinner, I already know that adventure will take me to some unexpected places until the usually late bedtime. Anything can happen, and I have the feeling food and friendship will continue to be the stars of the show.
