The Shot: Michael Jordan's iconic buzzer-beater eliminates Cavs in 1989 NBA playoffs | ESPN Archives
Спорт
On May 7th, 1989, Michael Jordan delivered a legendary moment in NBA history to fend off elimination and clinch the Chicago Bulls' first-round series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. Down by one with three seconds remaining, MJ buried a foul-line jumper, known as "The Shot," over Craig Ehlo to end the best-of-five series and propel the Bulls into the second round of the 1989 NBA playoffs.

I remember reading a story about this and before the game, MJ went to see the 3 sportwriters who said they will be eliminated by the Cavs. One said they will be eliminated in 3 games, the other said in 4 games while the other in 5 games. He pointed to the one who said 3 games and said "I already took care of you" then points to the one who said 4 games " Took care of you as well" then to the one that said 5 games " I'm taking care of you tonight". And yup, he backed it up. We will never see another one like him in our lifetime.

That's the truth. There game is just not as entertaining anymore. The 90's teams really made the game. Just like 90's musicians.
The way he shakes off the defender to receive the inbound, the sprint to the open foul line, the way he pulls up into the air, and while hanging in mid air, the way his right elbow lines up and squaring up perfectly towards the basket, then the complete release of tension of the high pressure moment, punching the air. I recommend watching the whole series if you have time, there is a great build-up to this moment. It's a lot of fun to watch even now, but it was even sweeter in real time - everyone felt the Bulls were going to be eliminated. When Ehlo made that shot with 3 seconds left in game 5 it was with a sinking feeling that we watched the last 3 seconds. The stunned look on Doug Collins face when Ehlo made that basket was priceless. Dread turned to absolute euphoria when Michael made "the shot". Boy was that fantastic. I'll never forget it.

When he hit 'the shot', I jumped for joy, with my arms both in the air, yelling yes, yes, yes...then, I went out to my outdoor basketball court, and tried to recreate the shot, over and over again. I always tried to emulate MJ's moves. He is unquestionably the GOAT, and he has been for a long time.

Michael Jordan for me was the best NBA player ever. When he played for the Bulls he played on a team with mostly average players at best with the exception of Scottie Pippen and yet they won championship after championship after championship. Three in a row 91, 92, 93 and again 96, 97, and 98, six total. Wow he was unstoppable.

Lol at mostly average, if you consider Rodman or Steve Kerr average something is wrong. Kerr was best 3 shooter in league ever until Curry broke his record. There will never be a lockdown defender or rebounder Rodman was.
I like how he had 14 points in the first half and they still said he had a bad first half
kind of a crazy finish in general. 3 lead changes in 8 seconds
It's also iconic to hear him say "i couldn't make my free throws today, but i didnt have to take a free throw on the last shot. It was a shot and i felt comfortable" and the shot was just behind the free throw line.
Even after all these years when you drive by the empty field where the coliseum sat on route 303 in Richfield, Ohio. You still feel and hear the silents from that day in may of 1989. ( The shot ).... Will haunt us Cleveland's fans forever.

Michael Jordan is the REAL GOAT.
My favorite Jordan shot. 1) He contortion to get the shot off 2) He hit 3 clutch/winning shots back to back 3) The Celebration after 4)finally over the Semi conference hump. Making it to the Conference final
