I'm guessing his medical degree was what we call an intercalated degree in the UK. A lot of medical students do one - basically you take a year off and do a special kind of BSc or MSc. It's quite common, but definitely very impressive!

It's kinda like time off, but like the other commenter said - it's a medical degree with intercalation, which is quite common in the UK, where medical students do a research degree (specifically, not an MSc e.g. which is a taught degree) for a year related to medicine to gain more in depth knowledge of their field of interest 😊

I believe there is a link between the blood sugar “crash” that sugar can exacerbate emotional responses. If you associate this crash to similar states (lows of depression that are physiologically similar, make you feel weak, shaky, tired) it can trigger the coresponding emotions as a state dependent response. Some also use sugar and the ‘crash’ to numb out (eating a bunch then going to sleep) similar to other addictive behaviours.

Also I believe most people eat sugar so that’s why people who are depressed eat sugar to do I don’t believe there is a link at all to sugar causing depression!!! To be honest it’s more spiritual than anything!! A few years ago I started seeing and hearing spirits and was messed with big time by negative and evil spirits! God has allowed me to hear these things which has given me more prospective on matters of mental illness!!! So what I can hear and sense most people can not and I’ve witnessed a spirit throwing jealousy on me at a time I had no reason to be jealous!! Also I know how they can mess with us where we don’t hear it all even though it’s happening!!! I didn’t hear them or sense them til 2016 as a 36 year old even though I now know they’ve been around me my whole life so they were manipulating me to feel certain ways and I had no clue!! Now I do and I’m happy and I can sense when they try to make me feel certain ways and I know this happens to others but they can’t sense it so they believe it’s mental health problems when in fact it’s more a spiritual problem!!!!

I think he was meaning because sometimes someone who switches to just water might feel the need to add something sweet to their diet to replace the soda. So, water is obviously healthier, but if someone eats a pint of ice cream every night to fill that craving for something sweet, they may experience health issues from that that offset the benefit of switching to water over diet soda (which may fill that desire for something "sugary").

To be clear though. The reason why Diet Coke might make you fatter is because aspartame while having no sugar, does still have a glycemic index. Which means your body will produce insulin to breakdown sugars that aren’t there, which in turn causes your body to tell you that you are hungry. Sweetener replacements are great but it’s important to know each one, what they do, and be realistic about it.

Some people commenting are really grasping at straws trying to justify just drinking normal sugary soda. The real problem is ACTUAL SUGAR causes cancer, but sugar companies will do everything in their power to make it look like artificial sweeteners, fat, etc is the problem. Not many people realize that fortunes have been built on sugar itself (a lot of old money... it's sugar).

Artificial sweeteners companies also want to make loads of money. Original coke and coke zero come from the same company. So the same people that made trillions on sugar are making more now on artificial sweeteners. COKE ZERO IS DANGEROUS ☢☣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Yes coke zero is better than original coke because it will help you loose weight making your health better. The problem is you shouldn't have had weight and health issues in the first place, you are addicted and use to sugary toxic drinks since birth and you need a better replacement but it still will affect your health. Smoking 1 cigarette a day is way better than a whole pack but it still going to impact your health. People need to understand that companies want money at all costs and that the only drink you should be having is water and natural fresh squeeze fruit juice thats it.

I figure there are so many things in the world that might kill me that I just blow it all off for the most part. Many years ago when I heard that the dye in Levi's was poisonous, I just kind of threw up my hands and said, well then I guess it will kill me. lol! Another note on Coke Zero or any diet drink is that I use so much ice that it all gets watered down a lot.

It is a multibillion dollar industry but I have to say I must be the only person on the planet who has never actually drank this product or any sugary drinks. I did however try coke once when I was a kid and took a small sip of it had to spit it out because it was so sickly in sweetness and I never ever tried it again. This segement made me cringe. There is a mechanistic understanding of how diet soda's are associated with high rates of type-2 diabetes. Habitual consumption of non-caloric sugar replacements (unnatural or even natural aka Stivia) will induce metabolic derangement overtime. The nervous system is involved with digestion/metabolism, this process begins when your tastebuds pick-up on a the injestion of a sugar and your body gears up for digestion; when no sugar is later there to digest your nervous system and become untuned with future ingestion of sugars. Thus when the real sugar is ingestion your body may not have the proper insulin response. This doesn't refrute the doctors findings about a link between high glycemic loads and depression, but the conclusion that diet sodas are a good alternative is not the good conclusion. The claim that diet sodas can curb cravings may be true but better advice would be to never have cheat days, cravings go away with time so long as you remain away.

I one 💯 agree. I cut out the artificial sweeteners and have limited carbs to the undefined carbs. I was on the cusp of type 2 diabetes and by changing to what I think is a called a ketovore diet and by intermittent fasting eating one meal per day and drinking 2 cups of caffeinated coffee per day with heavy cream instead of milk or half & half which contain carbs via lactose I have reversed the need for metforman reduced my bp to an average of 115/70 and dropped approx 37 lbs from 180 to 143. I’m 5’9. Sugar is a problem but I’m fairly certain that even artificial sweeteners trick the body into releasing insulin which forces fat into the cells. If you want to be healthy you need to eat as close to a natural diet as possible. I can recommend a Dr. On KZread by the name of Dr. Barry following his diet has changed my life. He definitely recommends staying away from sugar and artificial sweeteners.
