I went there on a work assignment two weeks ago. Although my company paid for hotel and flights, I don't think it was expensive in terms of food and checking the city of Addis. From your visuals, you mostly frequented the Bole area which is an upmarket area. You could have tried Mesqel square and other tourist attractions which costed me on average 5 to 6usd. There's a leather goods market next to the stadium where I bought stuff which was 60% cheaper than in my native South Africa. Next time just try to show more of the other side of the addis.

It makes no sense that cost of living expenses are jacked up so high there..for example most of the products in so called "upmarket" groceries come from middle eastern countries and are the cheapest brands you can buy there but the markup when it gets to ET is staggering. It appears the entire economy is targeted towards "dollar tourists" but i dont see tourists breaking the doors down to enter Ethiopia..its more like a trickle. I have 2 questions for you. 1) You didnt tell us how much the shiro cost? 2) What is the name of that bar/restaurant where you had the raw meat? Cheers.

Great points. I'm not sure how much that Shiro cost, but I remember it was in dollars. Therefore, I was shocked to pay that much. And don't get me wrong, it may not be the most expensive, but it's definitely the most expensive Shiro I have paid for on that trip. Secondly, the name of the restaurant was Zegeye. Do you have a business in Ethiopia and where are you right now?

@@binitravels Thanks. Im in Cali. Been back to ET 3 years ago..would love to return but the cost of living and the weak bang you get for your buck are turning me off. Take next door Kenya for example, most things there will cost you HALF of what it does in AA and the entertainment value you get in Nairobi cannot compare to Addis. What i really want to know is...with the weak purchasing power of the standard-issued Ethiopian, **WHO** is going to by their USD$12,000 No-Name Alligator handbag made locally that we saw at one of the shops in Bole, or the poorly constructed no-name local leather jacket for $USD 680.00??? Or the Skippy Peanut butter at Gara Supermarket for USD$ 46.00. Someone needs to school these newly hatched buisnesses that you can buy a high end European designer alligator handbag or a high end designer leather jacket for less in the western world!! When i got back to Cali, it took me longer to recover from sticker shock than it did the jet lag lol!!

Well, I understand that hearing the truth about the cost of visiting Ethiopia multiple times can be a bit repetitive, but I'm just trying to make sure everyone is fully prepared for the financial commitment that comes with falling in love with this amazing country. And let's be honest, it's not exactly cheap - unless you're secretly a Birr billionaire, in which case please share your budgeting tips with the rest of us! But all joking aside, the beauty and culture of Ethiopia make it worth every penny, so I'll try to mention the cost fewer times in my future videos - but I can't make any promises if I find a new favorite shiro spot.
