The Shark Is Broken | Director's Cut: Interviews with the cast and performances

Ойын-сауық

Hear from the cast and creatives behind The Shark Is Broken, as we hear them talk through three scenes of the play. Co-writer Ian Shaw revisits the hilarious behind-the-scenes drama of one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and takes the role of his father, Robert Shaw, 45 years after visiting him on set. When writing the play, Ian took inspiration from first-hand accounts including the book The Jaws Log by the film’s screenwriter Carl Gottlieb.

"Anyway, we delivered the bomb". The delivery on that line is *amazing*. It's possibly one of the single best bits of film acting of all time.

Shaw's son in this clip.... incredible. It's like his father was put in a time machine in 1975 and brought to the present. This is well-cast. Duddy Kravitz, being a Canadian film, never receives the attention it deserves. Dreyfuss' performance in it is very good. I imagine being in Lucas' American Graffiti probably helped to establish Dreyfus as an actor.

Saw it last week, simply sensational, Ian Shaw’s performance playing his dad is flawless, if you are a fan of the movie then you really need to see this, Shaw’s rendition of the Indianapolis speech was so poignant and fitting....superb!

I really wouldn’t mind that. I’ve watched so many documentaries on the shooting of JAWS and the making of the movie would be a good movie in itself. 😅

Superbly done. Ian as his dad is so true to Robert, whilst Liam and Demetri's performances are also brilliant renditions of Roy and Richard. It's all so believable considering the troubles and frustrations of the original production.

I hope this production comes back and tours the UK at some point now its in the US , I'd love to see this and hopefully the play will get filmed , it deserves to be for posterity ; the whole cast are excellent but Ian Shaw deserves an award for his uncanny portrayal it would be just, as his father deserved an Oscar for the film

I wonder if a TV adaptation has been mooted? It's an intriguing three-hander that could make a strong, one hour drama. And with a TV version, liberties could be taken with setting and time - eg jumping to a scene of Robert with his second wife, actress Mary Ure, or recreating a famous scene from one of his other leading, film roles, eg Henry Vlll or Bond villain, etc, as he's recounting a nostalgic story to the other two. We could get a more complex and multi-faceted version of the play on the small (or big) screen, with more characters popping in and out, bringing variety. I think the danger with the live/stage set-up, is that as good as the actors are, they're NOT the original three, hugely charismatic stars. So their performances/impersonations could inevitably become 'one-note' fairly rapidly, and dare I say tedious to the audience. Ian Shaw HAD to be an actor - any other career would have been a criminal waste of that wonderful voice and charisma. And yes, he does look like his dad. But I think there's a very positive and reassuring quality coming from him, that Robert Shaw lacked. Maybe Ian simply lacks his father's demons? Whatever that big difference is, this guy is comfortable in his skin - Robert never was.

He really looks like his famous father BUT and hear me out...he has an eerily resemblance to a certain guy named Richard Dreyfuss...sure this isnt just Richard messing with us and pretending to be the son of Robert Shaw?XD It would be SO fitting for his humor XD
